I don't know - you break in someone's house and lunge at them - I don't feel much pity.

Doesn't Texas have a law that lets you use lethal actions to defend your home?
Vulash 16 years ago
I don't know if that is true or just rumor because its Texas. I'm liberal in many views, but not this one though - I just feel like my home is - well my home - I should be safe there. If someone has so little respect for that as to break in and attack me then I feel I should be able to defend myself and my family without worrying about the consequences for them.

I'm really not a gung ho "I"D KICK HIS ASS IF HE DID THAT TO ME" type of guy, but my home is sacred, and I have no respect for people that violate that. I guess it feels like we're becoming a society that is too worried about the rights and victimizing criminals. Maybe I'm off target and this isn't a good place to discuss this - I hope no one is offended. And if so I'll bow out of the conversation - I know no one so far has defended the guy that broke in :P

In AZ you can use deadly force if someone breaks into your home. The man and I have always kept a weapon handy, he is afraid of leaving me home alone, even way out here, so we have a heavy stick behind each door as well as other more dangerous weapons safely stashed, but easily accessible to me, if needed.

Not sure I would use a sword though :lol

You're in AZ too?

I know that here if a bike or a ped hops off the sidewalk right in front of your car - its their fault not the drivers. In most states it is automatically the drivers fault no matter the circumstances if it involves a bike or pedestrian. We had a family in WV that would deliberately stand in the road or run in front of slow moving cars so they could sue.
Verileah 16 years ago
That's not at all how it is in Maryland (regarding bikes). Not a bike friendly state whatsoever.

And yeah, someone breaks into my house and lunges at me? Shit's going -down-. Though I think it's the choice of weapon and the brutality of the killing that has people going O_O.

Didn't that happen to someone here at TAC? Their house was broken into, and they shot the intruder?

I don't think so. I think I'd remember that. =x

I lived in Az all my life up until almost two years ago, we moved out to middle of nowhere missouri to be closer to his family. But I dont miss it, the gunfire and sirens and traffic part anyway hehe. I do miss living in a city with everything so close and such variety!

When we lived on the west side of phoenix (round 67th and Thomas if youre familiar) we had just decide to move to chandler a week before and hubby had dropped me off at my parents for thanksgiving dinner, he left and was going back to our house and saw a car in our driveway. He thought to himself wtf and parked bumper to bumper in front of the car so they couldnt leave, and got out to see a girl at the steering wheel, the hatchback of their car open as well as our front door.

He went to the door of the house just as a guy was coming ut, he decked him and the guy fell flat then he went to the girl in the car and tried to pull her out of the window (lol) chick managed to back up just as the two people who were inside jumped into the back of the car, and drove around our Explorer, (getting away from David)

He went inside to see what was missing and the house was a disaster. By this time we had moved with the bare essentials, our bedroom furniture and main electronics (kids video games and Tvs) but everything else of value had been gone through and picked over. They had been there multiple times and were making trips, unloading stuff from our home. David drove around for three hours looking for these pricks but could never find them.

We ended up getting robbed a few more times before we ended up getting everything out of the house that we wanted, throwing anything else that wasnt valuable any longer away.

If we had been home and living there when those people came in, Im positive at least one of them wouldnt be breathing anymore. He.. and I , are not about to risk the health and safety of our family to see if maybe some intruder might wish us harm or just wants to take our stuff. ><

LOL Oh yeah. That was the funniest thread, despite all the blood, beating, and mayhem. ><

By the time you have hacked someone with a sword, that's really probably crossing a line but then you can do strange things under pressure.

Our legal tests for what constitutes reasonable force are probably different to yours, you wouldn't be able to do that and claim self defense down here, well not easily anyway.

Dead is dead to me, no matter what weapon was used. That's exactly how he'd end if we found him at our house, too, so right on :)

Yep - If you break into my home for example, in Texas, I can take my shotgun and blow your head off and not see any jail time, in fact, I doubt i'll even see court time.

I know this, because a crazy ass woman broke into my brothers room window and jumped into bed with him while he was asleep and started choking him for dating her daughter.

Sherriff came, asked my brother straight up "why he didnt use deadly force or at least subdue her" and brother asked if he could have, Sherriff said yep. He more or less told my brother that he is lucky to be alive and when someone does something like she did, she had ill intentions and told my brother to reconsider his actions next time in the form of deadly force if that happens again and asked him if he had a gun liscence and if not, to go get one.

Its no myth because "its Texas" - Its the truth. You can use any means necessary to defend your home as long as the intruder is inside your home and if that means using deadly force, so be it.

I dont own a gun anymore - I do however own a machete that I always keep next to my bed. If someone breaks in and jumps into bed with me, im going Jason Voorhies on their ass.

I live in Texas too. I love this state sometimes. LOL
Hubby was also telling me one day that he and some friends were told by a cop... if someone breaks into your house, is halfway through the window and you shoot them and they fall out of the window.. to drag them back in the window so they are inside the house since the use of deadly force is only if the intruder is inside the home. :omg:

Typical Texas cops =p They are usually straight shooters and will say it how it is.
