George Clooney

In this quirky dark comedy inspired by a real life story you will hardly believe is actually true, astonishing revelations about a top-secret wing of the U.S. military come to light when a reporter encounters an enigmatic Special Forces operator on a mind-boggling mission. Reporter Bob Wilton (Ewan McGregor) is in search of his next big story when he encounters Lyn Cassady (Academy Award®winner George Clooney), a shadowy figure who claims to be part of an experimental U.S. military unit. According to Cassady, the New Earth Army is changing the way wars are fought. A legion of “Warrior Monks” with unparalleled psychic powers can read the enemy’s thoughts, pass through solid walls, and even kill a goat simply by staring at it. Now, the program’s founder, Bill Django (Oscar® nominee Jeff Bridges), has gone missing and Cassady’s mission is to find him. Intrigued by his new acquaintance’s far-fetched stories, Bob impulsively decides to accompany him on the search. When the pair tracks Django to a clandestine training camp run by renegade psychic Larry Hooper (two-time Oscar® winner Kevin Spacey), the reporter is trapped in the middle of a grudge match between the forces of Django’s New Earth Army and Hooper’s personal militia of super soldiers. In order to survive this wild adventure, Bob will have to outwit an enemy he never thought possible. The Men Who Stare at Goats was inspired by Jon Ronson’s non-fiction bestseller of the same name, an eye-opening and often hilarious exploration of the government’s attempts to harness paranormal abilities to combat its enemies.

I don't get it. Does he stare at goats? I thought he was playing Aion with Jixt

I've seen previews of this at the theater, and it looks funny.

There was a whole thing with a wild goat story that carried on over into TAC (specifically a sig Roz made) ages ago - it was just the first thing I thought of when I saw the movie title and I thought he (and Roz, for that matter) might get a kick out of that.

Then again, I'm starting to think I'm the only one who remembers this stuff :X.

oh snap http://www.cnn.com/2009/SHOWBIZ/Movies/11/06/men.goats.review/index.html

"The Men Who Stare at Goats" was directed by Grant Heslov (he worked with Clooney as a producer on "Leatherheads" and co-wrote "Good Night, and Good Luck"), but in this case ''directed'' is a charitable word.

Actors like Jeff Bridges (in a ponytail) and Kevin Spacey (in the worst hairpiece of his career) jabber away as if locked in their own private acting classes, and Ewan McGregor, as the reporter who tags along with Clooney when the troop is revived to help fight the war in Iraq (see, it's a topical movie!), looks about as lost as you'll feel.

Wow. Entertainment Weekly - a high class magazine (/sarcasm off) - gave it an F. Zoinks.

Ive not seen this yet, but I keep seeing bad ratings. I guess its to be expected however since its George Clooney. Hes just not what i'd call a great comedy actor.

Dude! He was brilliant in "O Brother, Where Art Thou?"

I've not seen this either, though. In fact, I've not heard much at all about it and don't even know what it's about. :(

Depending on who you wanna believe, this movie is based off actual events (albeit not to the extremes this movie gets)

Mike had heard that this wasn't as funny as the previews, but I was busting through the entire thing. George Clooney was hilarious as a freaky psychic jedi warrior. Seeing Ewan McGregor ask him what a jedi was had me rolling. I'd give it a good solid 4 stars out of 5.

Dang, really? I heard so much bad stuff about it... maybe I will check it out after all.

I liked it as well - my only complain was it felt as though they were hoping to give the movie deeper meaning, but since it was just light hearted fun and funny I didn't feel like thinking about that stuff. Overall though entertaining enough to watch for sure.
