I watched this tonight. Yikes!
I went in with pretty low expectations and still managed to come out very disappointed. There should be some sort of measurement for cliché-density in movies. Given the running time of 2012, it would be well over the Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff limit, sending it straight into cliché black hole territory. All audience members crossing its event horizon would eventually be radiated as canned applause entropy.
Usually I can get past that by switching into drooling ape mode and watching the pretty effects, but I wasn't at all impressed by those either. :( The overhead shot of the limo bouncing around the streets of a crumbling Los Angeles comes to mind. It looked like Spy Hunter for the NES. I'm fairly certain that game was developed for considerably less than that shot. I'm laughing just thinking about it.
To go out on a positive note, I thought Chiwetel Ejiofor (I had to look that up) played his character very well, all bad science aside, and I'm continually forced to like John Cusack in spite of myself.

Think I'd have time to set up the camera somewhere?
