Any one need some things?

Alright. Im tired of stepping on my kids toys and breaking them because they wont pick up the infinatly growing mess off the floor. Im tired of saying "Blake, wheres that favorite toy train set you love so much? (that I also spent oodles on)" and him saying "Idunno."

Im taking a large majority of the kids toys and donating them to homeless shelters and kids in need. I want to call around first tho, its just not me to dump off some stuff and expect it to find its way to the right child. I want to do this hands on, for two reasons. 1) if Im gonna dump my kids toys, better to teach them a significant reason for doing so. If they can hand a person / child something they need, then they just a) helped the world and b) got a really good lesson in sharing. 2) I love kids more than anything. Id give my life for Mae or any other person on this threads child just as quick as my own. Its not enough for me to imagine seeing lil ones get what they need, I want to see it. I dont know if that seems silly or no, but anyway.
The reason Im posting here is if any of you guys need toys or clothes for your kids, or know someone that does, please pm me. Ill mail it free of charge to you or anyone else. I dont know many people irl, but Id come to those I do know (after family) here and a few other sites to offer what I do have. There are a few other things that I have to give away, but I dont want to have a yard sale. Too much time consuming, sweat and lil profit. To me, seeing / hearing about a happy person is way more profit. So I have childrens clothing size 12 months - 2 years for girls, and probably around 2-4 for boys to give away, and so many toys (in great shape, some have never been touched, im not joking). I can make a list later and post it here if anyone is interested in certain toys, but anyway. I just thought Id ask here if anyone knows anyone in need, and then Im headed to Atlanta pretty soon to do the rest.

Thanks.

Good for you, lol. Although I want to share a story with you about how this backfired on someone at our apartement complex.

We went out like 2 days before Christmas and there was this little boy just crying holding his little sisters hand and his momma digging through the trash dumpster. Since we were heading out of town, we had stopped to do a last trash run.

Since everyone was crying, we asked what was up. Bear in mind our Dumpsters automatically crush the trash kinda randomly.

So turns out little kiddos had been hell hounds due to it being almost Christmas and the presents being under the tree.

The mom, at the end of her sanity, takes all the presents and tosses them in a trash bag and then 'takes out the trash' and hides the presents in the closet.

Later that day, the little boy, trying to be good so he can get his presents back - is looking for chores to do. He walks to dog, picks up his room, hangs his coat up, and finds the trash bag.

So being a good boy, he brings it down to the trash can. Several hours later the mom figures this out and he brightly says he did it to help out.

Rofl, so two days before christmas we had to help this poor mom dig though the dumpster and find the presents.

Luckily, they were ok. But I think everyone learned their lesson, rofl.

However this is really a wonderful idea. When I was in high school, my mom ran the Holidays Magic deal at her work. We had like 100$ for a family and mom being all uber smart ending up getting like $300 worth of stuff cuz she bought bulk.

Anyways, we brought all t his food and cans and turkey and toys to this Hispanic family. And they cried and it was like, omg. Christmas isnt about toys, its about family and love and stuff.

I agree wholeheartedly. But since I grew up with as many toys as I wanted (for the most part, we werent wealthy, but we werent in a shack by the lane either)and I dont know what its like to not be able to have a toy, or get an orange for Christmas, I am for sure a few toys will bring some smiles too :)

I think Id just die if I were that woman tho lol.

Unfortunatly no, not that we want to be rid of. I have this... crazy love for the old buggers. Especially the ones from the original nintendo. Ive got several, if I can find em.

Key words, if I can find em.

Are we beginning to see why Im attempting to be rid of this junk?

And for the first time, my pack rat self wants to throw it all away, and I pick up this junky Donkey Kong Monkey Guy and Im about to toss it and my hubby says, "wait what are you doing with that?" Im like "It cost less than a dime at a dollar store hon. What do you think Im doing with it." And he says "NO! its cute. Put it on my bed."

Im scared. And Im also getting nothing done lol.

If you want some advice, my favorite bit of advice as far as culling the junk herd is actually exceedingly simple.

There are two rules you can use, I prefer the first one but use both for a happier family, lol.

Rule 1: Very simple. If you havent used it, touched it, or thought about it - or for goodness sake, if you pick it up and say 'omg I didnt know we had this' -- for 6 months or more (not counting opposite weather clothing) then you DONT need it.

And even clothing, if you didnt wear it last season or if it doesnt fit, then you dont need it.

Rule 2: Let everyone have a (small) moving box to save even the things that fall outside that rule. Usually Ill have 3-5 boxes for: Save, Charity, Trash. Make sure save is the smallest box!

Its amazing what we drag around forever. I realized last move that I still had every note every boy had every written me. Why did I need all that junk =p. I also had broken necklaces, socks with no match, and old old OLD art that I hated to begin with.

Now with toys, I see how thats harder. I have a small stuffed animal fetish and its dreadfully hard for me to get rid of any of them. But that, and books, are about the only thing you cant talk me into getting ride of. Otherwise its like .. hmm.. ok, into the box you go!

Nalla,

Have your children be a part of the purging process, when my sister's family was living with us and the twins had oodles of toys this is what I did and the girls really liked it

I sat down and explained to them that there were little children like them that had NO TOY's and they needed some and wouldnt be nice if they had some. Well the kids argeed and I brought 2 boxes home from work, THEY went t hru their toys and decided what they didn't want and it filled up about a box and a half. they really enjoyed the process canuse i took them to a homeless shelter and let them tell the people what they did.

It made them a little more sympathetic and understanding towards people who are less fortunate than them and they learned that to give is better than recieving.
