I think Super Bowl sunday needs to seriously be turned into a national holiday. I mean, even non-football fans tend to tune in.

My initial reaction to this was "that's stupid", but that was just my instinctive hatred of all things football related kicking in. After thinking about it for more than 1 millisecond, I realized... that's actually not a bad idea :P It's practically a national holiday already, so it wouldn't make much difference, but it would somehow make it seem more patriotic and less commercialized. Of course, then the baseball, hockey, and basketball leagues would all be going apeshit...

The last thing the US needs is more patriotism. Look at how much shady stuff has already been justified by "omg if you're a patriot, you'll support these violations of the Geneva Convention!"
On the other hand, maybe people would actually realize how incredibly stupid it is when others try attack their patriotism because they voice an unpopular opinion. An example: "Hey, your thoughts on the war in Iraq conflict with mine. I don't think you're a big enough Superbowl fan." *speaker beats listener to death with giant foam finger*
I guess there are advantages and disadvantages to weigh.
And in case that wasn't inflammatory enough: I'd say a fetus has about as much to do with football as dudes dating each other. Why show an anti-abortion commercial and not one about homosexual dating? (To be fair, I'm with Vulash on this. The less commercials they show, the better. Sadly, the truth is that if they strike one commercial from the lineup, you won't see more football, you'll just see a different commercial.)

lol.
I was thinking more along the lines of turning football into something more like soccer is in Europe, instead of just a giant marketing orgasm.
