"Hot Rod!" --Sketch Topic for 8/22-8/28
I remember in elementary school that we sketched out imaginary hot rods with pipes and big wheels and such, so we're going to turn back the centuries and revisit my halcyon days.
This doodle-tastic topic will last only this week, so don't miss this golden opportunity!

I haven't drawn anything since elementary school, so getting back into that mindset should be a snap! And yes, I erased that poor zebra's head like 5 times. :o

My dad used to draw these hot rod guys when I was little. Their heads were always huge and the gear shifter extended like 17' over the car. Apparently he's not the only one, though, since GIS turns up a bunch of them!

*sigh* maybe its the girl in me and the fact that I never drew hotrods in elementary school Or that ic hanged my major so I wouldn't have take rendering and draw cars but...here's my piece ( literally). Its my brothers 67 or 69 (cant remember) Dodge A100. He does race it so its a hotrod. Unfortunately you wont get to see it in Pinks! this year because his tranny is fucked and the custom part he had made for it wont work. Instead he'll be racing my dads 67 Dodge Polera. go Team Detroit!

Gongaa I think that was even a cartoon when I was little. the monster drag racing things. lol

Just to show I'm not scared to be shown up by everyone else's superior skills.... meet what happens when you cross a Volkswagon Bug with an Incom T-65 X-Wing fighter. Really blurry cause it's so small and I took the picture with my cell phone, which doesn't zoom in so well.

Time: Like 10 minutes? Sad :(
Medium: Ball-point pen and Crayola crayons on some imitation Post-It pad
In retrospect, there should be fenders over the wheel tops, but I didn't realize I was drawing a Bug until it was too late and the wheels were already done. Oh well!

Nice work, Pharren! Don't worry so much about accuracy -- mine looks like a tractor.
All doodles are cool!

Thanks, grrls!
@Pharren: I like the no-fender action, too. I mean, as long as you're tacking X-Wing parts on to a VWBug, you might as well take the fenders off, put some crazy axles on, and give the thing a hella wide track!
@Dia: I looked around a little more and found the name "Big Daddy" Roth. Dude was all about drawing some hot rod cartoons! Also, I had never even heard of a Dodge A100 until this thread. What a crazy truck / car / thing!

I was never much for drawing cars, but I did have a fantasy automobile as a kid, from a book that I really loved and made a lasting impression on me. I think this is a vague idea of what this car might look like if someone with crack-addict shaky hands were to draw it :P. I have no idea why I could not accomplish even the most basic symmetry, going to blame that on the crack as well :P.

Anyone want to venture a guess as to which children's book this car is from? (I don't flatter myself by thinking this is a perfect rendering of said car, by any means, but there are clues in the picture!) Winner gets cookies!

Wystro, I'm really impressed by how much you have going on in such a quick sketch - that dude really looks like he's going to run someone over (leaving distinctive treads in his wake, no less O_O), laughing up a storm the whole time!
Gongaa, I suppose I will have to get in line behind Pharren on the baby thing! I would think, having a uterus, that I would be the better candidate, but Pharren did post first. Your zebra's expression turned out just priceless.
Dia I thought El Camino too :D. The fire is cool, always thought that was kind of badass on a car (though I sort of want water instead, like a Hokusai sort of thing, but I guess that's not quite as badass).
Pharren I don't know how you're not blind with the amount of detail you put in such a tiny amount of space, but that's seriously impressive. Good show, I dig :D.
