Pets
I have a grey gerbil with pink eyes, and a white lightning bolt on his forehead. His name's Harry.
We (the family that is) also has a smoky black cat named Zeus.
Zeus is about 5 years old now. He's smallish, probably not more than 24 inches with tail, and under twelve pounds. He's very fluffy - not long haired, just poofy. I used to joke we got a chinchilla instead of a cat.
Zeus likes beef jerky. If you open a bag, and he hears you, he'll come running. Then he'll sit at your feet meowing until you either give him a piece, or put it away.
He loves my bedroom, even though my mother won't let him up here for some odd reason. He meows at me to pet him, but when I do he will walk around rubbing against my hand, instead of sitting there to be petted. He also doesn't like to be held a lot of the time, and really hates laps. He does love to be brushed though, and sometimes I can get him to attack the brush. (Makes it easier to clean!)
He's also smart enough to reach for the doorknob and try to tug on it when he gets locked in my room or the bathroom.
He does like to climb, but he's learning not to climb on certain things, like the entertainment center (with the TV and all) or the dining room table. He does love sitting on Harry's cage. If he walks on a desk, my dad's bed, or the coffee table, he won't step on anything other than the surface itself. So if there's a magazine there, he'll step over it if he can. If not, he'll jump down. But if you leave a plastic or paper bag somewhere accessible, he'll jump into that and play with it.
He also likes shiny things, or round things, like film container caps or coins! He'll carry them around in his mouth and hide them.
He is fond of both climbing and digging. While inside his cage, his favorite hobby is to climb to the top and hang out. Eventually he falls on his back and someone has to right him, although he can right himself if need be. It's just kind of pitiful to watch :(.
He's a very lazy turtle this time of year, as russian torts tend to hibernate. This makes me paraniod and I usually wake him up every so often to get some food and walk around a bit. Some people let them hibernate in a box or the fridge O_O. It's supposed to be healthy for the turtle, but won't cause any harm if you're not comfortable letting him hibernate.
Here is an older picture of him; he has grown an inch or so and his coloring has become darker.
And nice kitty and gerbil! My cats would prolly camp the gerbil, sadly.
Anyways!
I have two cats, GAmbyt (a large grey) and Pandora (a skinny black torte.) They are utter dorks. Pandora just basically sleeps and whines when things arent perfect and she thinks its funny to knock things off counters and see how they bounce. We dont get along that well, because she wants to be Queen and that spots taken =p.
Gambyt on the other hand is my little shadow. Well not so little, hes a huge cat. He is always jumping on things and he has this black fuzzy hair tie that used to be mine that he drags around and talks about constantly. He sleeps on me or my pillows everynight, and does really funny chasing-the-string stuff.
We just got a new puppy, an Aussie Shepherd, that we named Kupo. Shes really crazy silly. Already at 9 weeks old shes housetrained, leash trained, and is learning tricks. We didnt have to teach her to fetch, she wants to play so bad she'll fetch already. She adores her kennel (a large cage) and we yesterday fixed up the patio so she can spend afternoons out there. Her favorite toy is this large wuffle ball (for t-ball) and she'll play with that till she literally falls asleep mid pounce. ^_^

We got Shadow like the weekend of my birthday, the end of Nov last year. She's 5 years old, completely trained and the sweetest thing. We found her at the Anchorage pound just kinda sitting in her little stall. She didnt bark as we walked by, like the other nutso dogs. Her info sheet was long with comments about how great she was, how she walked on a leash perfect and was a loving dog, but she had been there since Oct 26th (1 month). She was nearing the end of her stay at the pound, yet everyone loved her. We figured it was because she was older than the rest of the dogs and that she had eye problems that although corrected, still tends to make people nervous. You know how it is, people want a brand new YOUNG dog with no problems.
Shadow knew this.
She sat on her little bunk and just kinda watched us walk by, not expecting us to stop. I tugged at Mike and pointed at her. We hovered by her stall, reading her info sheet. She just sat there, all sad. Catherine talked to shadow a bit but then we moved on. We saw this other dog named Angel that was younger and much more spry. Yet we kept backing up, looking at Shadow who had continued to stare at the wall.
We took Angel out for a run. She went apeshit. Barking and jumping when the tech took out. Went nuts in the pen where we walked her, but was good with Catherine. We went back inside and walked by Shadow's stall again. We asked if we could walk her too. The tech opened the door and Shadow just sat there. The tech called her over gently and she stood up, came over and waited. The tech put the leash on her and I swear she didnt jump or bark once. The other dogs were of course, going apeshit. Shadow walked out calmly to the pen and played with Mike a bit.
We went out to run some errands and we kinda didnt really talk about it. Before they closed that night we went back. We didnt walk past Shadow's stall to the other dogs. She was just so sad and lonely. We decided she was the one. You know, she needed us. Broke my heart really. Of course when she realized she was leaving the pound, she went completely crazy and was all over us. She's a happy, very loving and protective dog. She's funny and good with Catherine. She adores Mike and jumps on him whenever he comes home. She sleeps next to me and follows me around the house. She'll lay down on the kitchen floor when I'm in there cooking. She's a mama's girl, for sure. :o
Saturday night I got home from work about 3am. Came home, did some crap, and went to bed. Keelee, the one pictured left, sleeps under the covers with me every night. Well that night, she was't sleeping with me, which I thought was odd. So I was sleeping, and I hear something, and it's Keelee next to the bed throwing up. So I get out of bed and get a towel to wipe her face.
I felt bad for her, so I went and got a coffee cup with water and brought it back to her. And I thought to myself, "Here I am, a grown man, at 9am, sitting here on the floor of my bedroom with my dog who's getting sick and I'm wiping her face, and feeding her water after she gets sick."
I am odd, but doggone (CACKLE) it I love her.
He's a rescue, I was workin at Petco and this college student comes in sayin hes gotta find a home for his dog or put him to sleep. Well the puppy was only 4 months oldso I took him with the intent of finding him a good home.
I took him home at lunch time shoved him in the door and yelled at my hubby "DON'T KILL ME!" and went back to work. 4 Hours later when I got off and got home they had bonded and BO's named has been changed from Aggie ( the guy went to Texas A&M) to Bo.
He found his voice at about 8 months old. we had put him outside to go potty and Dizzy our neighbors cat was just sittin there, he started yowlin and hasn't shut up since.
He sleeps in bed under the covers on his back with his head on a pillow and snores, he eats french fries but only with Ketchup, dorito's but only with mild salsa. And if you have popcorn he better have his own bowl or yours will be in danger.
He's a big baby and is scared of thunder storms, he sufferes from seperation anxiety and has seizures, but he is the most loving dog in the world and I wouldn't trade him for anything.
I had a half rottie half lab (he was shaped like a rot but more lean with rottie markings but a white patch on his chest). I named him Apollo (I wanted to name him Chaos but my girlfriend at the time that lived with me wouldn't stand for me naming him that).
Anyway, I trained him how to walk / run on a leash beside me. How to sit, lay down, bark on command, and shake hands but I used different commands than the normal ones...
Like Chill meant lay down. Sit was sit ofcourse. When I wanted him to bark I would just say "Speak" but in a real deep voice. People always thought it was pretty cool when I would say, "Apollo Chill" and he would lay down. "Gimme Pounds" is the command I thought him to shake hands.
The dog had a ton of personality that I can't even begin to describe but it's something akin to a teen age boy and all the trouble us guys got into when we were in our teens.
I miss my doggie.
I was in the military with a guy who used to come into work in the mornings talking about how he would kick start his day by kicking his dog and would brag about letting the dog drink Jack everyday.
I went to his house one afternoon for a big cookout him and his wife were having, and low and behold, there was this poor pitiful dog sitting in a corner. Scared out of his mind everytime the man or his wife raised their voice. His wife babysat at her home and apparently would take out her 'child' fustrations out on him.
We took the dog 'off their hands' and have loved him ever since. He's a german shephard / dobbie mix, but looks more like the shephard. He was 4 years old when we got him, he is now 9. He knows some sign language commands (Who says ya cant teach an old dog new tricks?) such as, sit, stay and lay. He LOVES to follow my kids around and sleeps with my oldest son at night. His favorite table food is spaghetti or mac n cheese. All you have to do is look at him with a disapproving look and he knows to go lay down. Even though he weighs 50 pounds, he tries (and usually accomplishes) to be a lap dog.
All in all, he's worked through his abuse issues and has become a loving member of our family.
I got Tobi for Valentine's Day four years ago and he's the most amazing animal ever. He lets my girls wrap him in blankets and carry him like a baby, and he lets our one year old pull his whiskers and he doesn't EVER bite or scratch.
Gabriel we had to save up an assload of money for since he's a rare breed, but he's an enormous dog with an even bigger heart. He LOVES my girls and is very protective of them.
The rats were a recent addition, I got them as presents bc I've been down lately and my husband wanted to cheer me up with them.
Max. He's a horse. Very large cat. Weighs something like 20 pounds. He's very loving, but very independant and defiant also. He came from a shelter to us late last summer. He'd been there for 5 months, I just had to bring him home.
The week we brought him home:

Christmas time:

Princess .... aka Fatty. She's a cranky old bitch, but we love her anyhow. She eats and sleeps, and that's about it. Princess has been my cat since she wandered into the living room of my first apartment when I was 18, on the day I moved in. She wouldn't leave, so I set up housekeeping with her by my side. :)
She bears a striking resemblance to my husband. They're kindred spirits.

And the former Murray Rippy. Murray was my pride and joy. Even though I only had Murray in my life for 5 short years, we loved each other 9 lives worth of loving. He was my Familiar, my constant companion. I still get choked up when I think of him or look at the bazilion photographs I have of him.
Murray left me abruptly last summer, taken by the uncurable feline heartworms. I miss him very much and there will likely never be another furball in my life who will fill the void he left. :o
