SW Mafia: An eternity beyond (Mafia #2)
Sebri Stoutheart was frightened by the events that had been occuring since arriving on the easily forgettable planet. She had begun to regret the path that had taken her hear.
Part of her fear, she realized was only partially for her own safety. Another, perhpas even deeper fear focused around the very real possibility that all the exposure to death and the Dark Side of the force would take her down the wrong course.
Without her parents alive, she felt so alone, so lost and had needed to find someone to guide her as she developed both as a Force used and as a person. It had been about a decade, perhaps a bit more, since her parents had been killed by the Empire. Killed for being powerful Jedi, killed under the pretense of a lie. Sebri, sinc ethat day had feared the force almost as much as she had respected it and it had cause her as much hardship as it had helped her.
And now, here, where she had sought refuge and consolation in teh company of others like her, found only death.
She stopped herself from thinking too hard on the subject and took four deep breaths, stilling her mind and soothing her heart. Her hands still shook, but by the end of it she was in control of her thoughts again.
As she turned to check on the others and perhps go find a cup of caff, she was startled to find others had entered her room. She tried to hide her surprise and appear less vulnerable by quickly glancing around the room, as if she were looking for something.
"I am sorry," she said, "I didn't hear you come in."
She looked at her uninvited guests helplessly and shrugged, "What can I do for.."
The blow was quick, hard, and unexpected. It sent her careening and she did an admiral job of recovering her wits and dropping into a fighting stance, less reminiscent of her parent's practiced movements and more akin to that of a street-fighter. fear overtook her then and her attackers seemed to sense it.
Wordlessly they closed and surrounded her, offering her no explanation and no escape. Instinctually she lashed out through the force, hurling the small footlocker at the head of one of those around her. The attacked seemed effective, but only spurned the others into action.

As her spirit escaped her body, pulling towards the eternity she faced after her mortal death she could only hope whever she was going would be a place less frightening and alone.

As the large dome shaped droid hovered out of the fallen girls room it reported to the security officer (more of a formality for the station than anything, for little security could be administered in a place full of bounty hunters, smugglers, and other nerfarious creatures).
Its mechanical voice seemed uncaring in its assessment, "Human female is deceased. Cause of death, unknown. No serious external injuries, no internal bleeding, no detection of viruses or disease, no evidence of brain trauma.."
The list continued on for several more moments, but the results gave no indication as to who or what killed the young woman from Ryla.
"Hey, my drink is gone, I need an udder," she slurred. The bartender, who was on the other side of the bar pouring a glass of what looked like Chadian Rum for another customer, either didn't hear her, or was pretending not to have. Staring at the back of his head wasn't filling her glass with alcohol however, so Kavitha gave it another try.
"HEY! I need another drunk over heer!"
"Why dont you go home and sleep it off hun, you've had plenty" he said, wiping the bar off with a stained bit of cloth. Not bothering to turn around when he said it was where his mistake lay. Kavitha drew one of her blasters, managed to climb up onto the bar and pressed it against the back of his head.
"Another drunk," she whispered, handing him her glass. The bartender didn't argue this time, and filled it with the vicous green liquid she had been drinking all night. "Thank yoo," she said, holstering the blaster and sliding back to her stool. The drink went down like liquid flame, and she closed her eyes in ecstacy. Somewhere behind her she heard whispers of some murders having occured in the complex, but she didn't care. She had her own problems.
Now, he sought peace, no more anger. Perhaps they were all safe, perhaps not.
His door slid open, and a voice filtered in softly, bearing heavy words. "Another has died, Kashaal."
He did not turn to see who spoke, nor did he recognize the voice. The door slid shut again.
Guilt flooded through him. Was he wrong? Or were there more than one striving to bring them all down here?
Pushing such feelings aside, he thought of nothing, of only being. Feeling and thought slowly slipped from his mind.
Floating alone in the vast expanse of space, his master's teachings wrapped around him. No more would he let his anger control him. It was who he had been, running with his tribal mates across the grassy plains of his homeworld, hunting, feasting, being free.
No one was free any longer. The Empire had made sure of that. If he ever wanted to return, he would have to find a new way, a way not of the Hunt. But of the Force...
He finished his glass and set it down, then called the bartender over to fill it back up with Chadian Rum, as he already had a dozen times that night. While the bartender poured, a rather loud, drunk, and disheveled woman on the other end of the bar angrily slurred her request for another drink. Daynn watched as the bartender flinched, obviously uneager to acknowledge the drunk. The woman asked again, even louder and more obnoxious, but was again ignored.
Daynn watched in drunken amazement as the woman somehow managed to climb onto the bar. On second thought, it wasn't really climbing. It was more like... falling upwards with a complete lack of grace and dexterity. He considered warning the bartender that the woman was coming towards him, and considered it even more as the woman drew a blaster and pointed it towards the unwary man, but his alcohol-adled brain prevented him from acting in time, and in hindsight, Daynn was glad he did nothing. The look on the bartender's face as he was presented with both a third request and the business end of a blaster against the back of his head was priceless, and Daynn would carry the image with him forever.
Daynn fought to contain laughter as the bartender frantically poured the woman another of whatever glowing green monstrosity it was she was drinking, and made up his mind that he liked this woman. She wasn't much to look at, and she didn't appear (or smell) as if she had bathed in some time, but she seemed like a lot of fun to drink with. Daynn finished off his glass of rum, got up, walked to the other end of the bar, and sat down next to her.
"Hello. My name is Daynn, and I would like to buy us both another round of whatever that stuff is."
"Itz Danee Trummel Wine, bes stuv in the galaxee," she said, lifting her glass and emptying it to make room for the next refill. "Thad was my third too night, one more shood do the tricks."
She set the empty glass on the table next to her blaster and stared at it coldly, as the room began to spin a little. Just a little spinning wouldn't hurt her, it was always the big ones that turned peoples lives upside down.
"I'm Kavitha," she said, turning to her new best friend. "Itz not my reel name yoo know, just the last one I was given. I deecided to keep it. Itz all I hav now. That and that run down ship I stoled."
She reached out to offer him her hand, but everytime she did he moved twenty feet to either side. Trying one last time, she overcompensated and fell off her stool.
"Bartender! Two glasses of... Danee Trummel Wine? Whatever the hell it was she was drinking"
The bartender looked dismayed, frowned, and opened his mouth to say something. He quickly thought better of it, though, and went to get the drinks. When they were set down in front of Daynn, he picked one up and gave it a sniff. He instantly recoiling, wondering if maybe he had gotten himself into something he couldn't finish.
He looked down again to notice that his newfound drinking partner had managed to roll over onto her back, and was still giggling. He extended his hand and, after several tries, she grabbed ahold of it and he helped hoist her back onto her stool. Once seated, she immediately picked up her glass, and Daynn did the same. He said "To new friends" as he clinked his glass against hers and braced himself for the drink.
"It tastes like Mimn'yet going down, bud it does the tricks," she said as she finished off the rest of her glass. She put the glass lip down on the bar, and the bartender seemed relieved that she wasn't demanding any more. She then turned to Daynn, and her face was void of any of the earlier giggles that had occupied it.
"Thaks for the drunk, but you dun wanna know me. I'm dangeruss," Kavitha said, managing to pull herself to her feet without falling over. "Now if yule scuse me, I need to go throw up."
Kavitha stumbled towards the fresher, leaving Daynn alone at the bar.
She made a point to try to ignore the woman so that she could replay the last few days of events in her mind. She couldn't help but think that Kashaal had a furry paw in all of this. He was quick to point fingers, and seemed to have convinced the others that the monk was responsible for the deaths. He didn't seem foolish, so Destai figured that he must be very sly.
Rhaa noticed Destai and the human Daynn. Her lekku twitched as she mumbled to herself, 'Humans.' Walking to the bar, she sat 2 seats down from Daynn and did not greet him.
"HEY! WHAT ARE YOO LOOKINK AT LIT'L GURL!" she shouted awkwardly across the room. Everyone turned and looked at her, so she just pointed a wavy arm in Destai's direction. "Stupid lit'l gurl doesn even know she not sposed to be ina bar!"
No one said anything, so she turned and tripped over a chair, hit the ground, and decided it was as good a place as any to pass out. She lay there snoring while the bar went on as though nothing happened.
She half dragged and half carried the woman from the bar, hoping that she could at least figure out what room she belonged in. It didn't take long to locate one of the work driods that could point her in the right direction. She made her way towards the room, cussing under her breath the entire way, the drool trail threatening to land on her shirt. She couldn't help but think to herself, "My god...If you can't hold it, don't drink it."
Finally at the room, she let herself and Kavitha in and dragged her directly over to the bed, dropping her on to the mattress unceremoniously. Destai stared at her for a short time with her head slightly tilted before leaning over and pushing her on to her side. With everything going on, the last thing she needed was to have this woman choke to death. She searched the immediate area to make sure that Kavitha couldn't harm herself, and then took her leave, heading back towards her own room to clean the drool off of herself.
She looked over at Daynn and threw a nut at nut at him. 'Hey.'
"Hey to you, too." He then glanced down at her drink, noting its unmistakeable blue color. "Looks like Gizer Pale Ale, to me. I know a smuggler out of Corellia how can't get enough of the stuff. It's a bit of an acquired taste, though."
"Could I maybe buy you something else?"
She looked at her hands and caught sight of her skin. 'Right, I'm red. He see's red.' Rhaa looked up at Daynn and considered whether or not she would let that bother her. The fact that he's talking to her because she's red. Its such a beautiful color that is hell to live with. Thus her chosen profession. Bounty hunting lets her release that angst that builds up from having men paw you constantly. However she looked at Daynn, his gruffy looks yet softened eyes. Considering her situation, a little companionship would not hurt.
She just hoped it wouldnt get her killed.
While waiting for the bartender to return with their drinks, he turned back to the Twi'Lek and asked "So, what brings you to my bar? It's certainly not the scenery," as he gestured towards the unconscious and vomit-spattered woman being dragged out by a teenage girl.
He looked like money, but not the inherited kind. Charming, good looking. Gambler for sure. 'I do not believe that it will be the last,' she said thinking of the lynch. Her eyes had unfocused, recalling the moment Sebri died. 'I would hope that there's someone looking out for us. To save us, as it were.'
"I don't admit it to many people, but this place and the things that have happened here terrify me, which is why I have been drinking for 13 hours."
He took another look at her, from her lekku down to her toes and then back up again. She looked well-muscled and strong, not like a delicate Twi'Lek dancer, but beautiful just the same. A pair of blasters also rested on the curves of her hips, and they looked like they had seen a lot of use.
"I don't think you have too much to worry about. You look like the kind of girl that can handle herself. Me, on the other hand... I've never been much for believing in the higher powers, but I definately hope someone is looking out for me right about now. I feel I've made some enemies, despite my best intentions."
She rolled that thought over in her mind. 'I used to run from the type of people I chase now, Daynn. However chasing does become old.' She tilted her head and gave the human a rare smile. 'Your path led you here. Is it where you want to be? More importantly, will it let you live to choose another ?'
