NBG or FFA ?
For you hippies that dont understand what that means, its Need Before Greed or Free For All. I'm talking specifically of loot in wow. There was this huge argument about it in the general chat in booty bay today. After I called them fucking whiners, I gave it some thought.
Would you join a group that had the leader laying down loot rules like NBG and pass, then /roll on bind at pickup items? I had that happen where fuckface dictated all these rules, then went afk for 30 mins.
Or...
Do you personally not roll for loot you can't use or just roll for everything because WTF, you're here fighting for it too? I mean if its an upgrade, I'll pass but if its not, fuck off? =D
Thoughts?!

I depends on who I'm with. If I'm with friends or guildmates, I only roll on things I could use unless no one in the group needs it. If it's a pickup, fuck dem hoes - I roll on everything. I've had too many pickup groups in EQ where I was trying to be all nice and honest and people would just roll on shit to sell when I could have really used the upgrade.

Depends. Usually I dont roll on stuff unless nobody needs with guildies.
When its just pickup I usually ask what the loot rules are just so I know up front if I'm gonna get screwed or not. Prefer that everything is rolled. Now If someone can use as an up grade, I usually will give it to the person in need. But if not, I roll for sale or disenchant.
One time I was the last person to join a group. I looked around and noticed I was the only one not in their guild. I was told NBG, but everything that dropped they were handing it out to each other. I was like WTF guys? after the third time, I bailed. I was never asked if it would upgrade me, they just didnt give a rats ass. Homey don't play that.

I don't play WoW (still play EQ)...I like to set it up to random on everything in a pick up group, and NBG in guild/friend groups. People seem to lie a lot of times about needing the item...after they are awarded it they say "ohh this will be a nice upgrade for my alt". Easier just to random on everything when you don't know the people.

yeah, I agree with these guys. upgrades for friends, random for shit no one needs or in pickup groups. in a pickup group, everyone's playing a role and no one owes anyone anything, so everything should be up for grabs.
of course, if I had my way, I'd assign loot to people that deserved it based on their performance... if they fuck up, they get no loot. but people (read: fuckups) don't really like that attitude.

If you are grouping with strangers just roll on everything that you can get away with rolling for, because they will do the same for you.
At level 60, BOE's are almost always randomed for, and you can win as many as you want. No one wants to take the time to debate who should get it and decide who is still eligible to win it, blah blah blah. Too much effort for something worth too little.
Blues BOP's are rolled on by whatever classes would customarily use it, but you only get to win one per run. That way people don't just roll on everything just so they can shard it or have it as a toy.
If no one wants a blue, then you random for greed. Some people shard it first, then random for the shard because it's worth 7gish (more than the item would have sold for).
The real clusterfuck happens when an epic world drop drops (like a destiny, dwarven hand cannon, etc...). Typically everyone gets a hardon and rolls, regardless of their class, and then there is lots of bitching and crying by the people who want to equip it, but the winner doesn't want to fork it over because they'd rather sell it for hundreds of gold.
The solution is to not group with strangers ever.

Still really new here but I thought I'd chime in anyhow.
I like the loot threshold set to Uncommon.
Everyone gets a turn on "cash loot" and uncommons are rolled on.
Now the rolls,.. heres how my guild does it and I really like it.
Items that are non-bop (bind on pickup) everyone rolls. If upgrade you state Up in chat the winner gives it to you. This method really only works with people that play together alot (or guildmates)
On BOP items everyone passes then random 100's. Giving people the chance to say upgrade or not.
Now thats what I like for friend/guild groups. For pickup groups,.. I still like NBG. It just doesn't make any sense to me for people to roll on stuff they can't use if someone else can. Even if I know someone has won/gotten lots and lots of stuff I still will pass on an item if it's an upgrade for them. Not because I think they deserve it but because it's a self imposed rule I have for myself. Hippy-ish maybe but I like to think that the karma comes back in the end.
