Half elf ranger - WIP

These are the completed images that the client is EXTREMELY happy with :) Thank you all for your help with this!!!

Client requested that quote and the font with it.

This is the other half of the High Elf Cleric LOL And actually the one who contacted me for the commission as a surprise for his RL wife :) He is a half-elf ranger of Karana who requested his epic 2.0 and something relating to storms in his background.

C/C 5 - light me up guys!

ok,. dont kill me if i dont add any fluff, thats not how i c/c =P

but lets see.

the overall... "togetherness" of the character + background doesnt stick right to me. The lighting doesnt match the scene i think is whats eating at me.

his belt looks to be a little high on his waist.

right now i think thats all i can c/c..

hope it helps x_x

Yeah, what Vex said. The background doesn't jive - it looks like a near aerial view, but he's right up on what looks like a sillhouette of a tree and then lightning that looks a bit too thick. If you're going with the lightning and tree idea, I'd put some of it behind the tree and make sure the tree reflects this light source. Maybe just do a stormy sky in the back.

Yeah that ^^
Your character pose/camera angle and lighting does not go with the background.
The lighting on the character looks like it is comming from ground up/infrount of him thus making that lightening bolt and background not jive at all. Hope it helps =X

Yep the background needs some work /nod. If you want the spooky bare tree there are some good ones at Daz for cheap. Also, I am just not liking that energy / something looking blade on the upwards sword. It looks too frazzled, like it's just badly pixelated. The effect is *close* if you were trying to make it look like ice, but not close for lightening on a blade. Oh, and his eyebrows should be white!! Lessee.. I would make the laces of his shirt not dark green, all of their detail is lost. Anf the belt is way high, like an old man pulling his pants up to his chest high.. And My taste would be to not have the straight hem on the leather under tunic, it looks too odd with the torn chain above it. Oh and will you be doing something with the hair? It seems really flat. OH! And it looks like the top of his right thumb is colliding with the hilt some as well.

You did ask for 5.. =)

PERFECT! hehe Thanks guys :) That's exactly what I needed! I sat there looking at it last night trying to figure out what all was wrong besides the fact that the background looked too painted.

Gonna work on this after I run some errands :)

The only thing I have to add is maybe in the way of personal preference...but he looks a little...soft. I mean gay actually. His face mostly.

Could just be a ranger thing though ;)

I just wanted to inquire, not being proficient at 3D I am not super comfy giving technical cc but here I am. How is that tree so large behind him, yet lightening is between him and the tree. Wouldnt that ranger be fried? (When arent they dead though, honestly!)
Rikr 20 years ago
My only cc that hasn't been mentioned is that his hair and facial hair look painted on. If you can add a little depth to it, I think it would help more.

Ok I completely scrapped the background on that other one. I may still end up going into Bryce and making a storm background for him. I played around with the pose some more as well as his texture. I'm still working on the primary weapon texture to get it similar to his epic lightning blade. *Sigh* His hair is going to drive me batty! He uses the high topknot model in game. I may just tell him it going to a low ponytail LOL I also haven't decided what to do with his tunic just yet.

I knew I should have listened to my husband and just had him laying on a funeral pyre like a true ranger! ROFL

and thank you all! Keep these comments coming!

His weapons say, 'I keel you!' his eye brows say, 'Can I braid your hair?' I think that's what could be throwing off the man-ness of the piece. I do like the new background and his right hand sword looks sweet ass.

My suggestion: change the angle of the camera and move it lower and point up towards him. That way you can get a kick ass pose of him looking down, weapons glowing, brightning his face and the storm behind him brewing like the devil come to party. I hate conventional poses, straight on is great but doing funky angles gives you more character - my opinion anyway. I dont know if you feel like moving that stuff around, but that's a suggestion.

If you dont want to change the angle: you could draw in the top knot, it's small enough to be able to fake it if you're not good at freehand (hi, like me) but right now the hair looks so tight against his head, it doesn't look natural. There's no fluff. (HA, A PUN!) =( You could put bloody stains on his tunic and darken the picture and use the swords as a light source.

His expression needs a little more harshness, wince up his eyes...f9ck, give him a subtle snarl but a dark look on his face would really give that ranger some steel clankers, you know what i'm sayin' /snort!

The background now is perfect, I think. The dark feeling says, 'GRR!' I can't get over how the right hand sword looks, it's very very well done and the lighting is better on the left hand one.

I like it...but I keep getting the feeling he's hitting on me. Or looks sad cause I'm running away from him, cause I think he's hitting on me. *snickers*

But otherwise, it's pretty sweet! Love the swords. :D

Sword looks MUCH better. His face is very 'oh hello honey' Give those eyebrows some frown and wince up the eyes a bit. A faint snarl, tilt the camera as Mae said and it will be a much more GRR piece. Also don;t forget to add some color from the lightning to his face and chest!

On the hair.. have you looked at THIS at Daz?
ROzbeans 20 years ago
Ooh, good hair link!
Sunbur 20 years ago
Yeah, I looked at that hair but I keep thinking of John Belushi when I see it ROFL

But I did play around a bit by using the Toyo Hair (which I dearly love) and some different lights and camera angle

Vex 20 years ago
looks good now, but his beard and chops looks a little borked? real grainy instead of smooth
Adiene 20 years ago
yeah I like this pose much better. I keep looking at it for some helpfull CC but i got nothing. :lol
I'll look back at it again after i get sleep finally lol
I totaly love Toyo hair its fun! hehe

May just be personal preference, but I think he may look better with either white or possibly gray eyebrows instead of brown. Just looks off with his beard, sideburns, and hair all bright white.

Hair does look much better now though :)
Mai 20 years ago
maybe trimming down the goatee some in post work would make it less borked.

P.S. Cali said she was going to start charging royalties for use of her slang ;)
Sunbur 20 years ago
Ok, softened the facial hair up some so it didn't look so "borky" LOL Also lightened up the eyebrows a tad.

The text is not set in stone. I was just playing around to see if I could pull off the idea I was thinking of before I suggested it to the client.
