Having spent a year job looking I learned alot about hunting. Make sure your applying directly on the companies website not through job boards. Your going to have to follow up with HR as well if your really interested. Just a couple of tips. Personally I got no help from the 6 recruiters I worked with.

So, like WTF is wrong with me?
I've been sending out my resume for MONTHS and while I did get a couple agencies who called back and said they would submit me to a client but then... no response. I've sent on average 10-15 applications / job posting responses a week and have not gotten one freaking request for an interview! I really really REALLY want to get out of this job so what advice is there? How can I get these people to at least ask me to interview????

I've gotten my last two jobs through careerbuilder.com Gone are the days of pounding the pavement, it seems. I had to apply to about 30 or so places though to get 2 respectable bites. I got offered a handful of jobs in sales that I've been doing for years but finally put my foot down and moved onto something more m-f.
I submitted apps daily and it took about a month or so. Call HR at offices you want to work at and embellish your resume, not to the point of lying, but if you know you can learn something in a heartbeart, emphasize that in your resume.
GOod luck =D

5x10?
I've gotten my best jobs through word of mouth with friends and family.
I did use monsterjob.com...once...and got the worst job of my life; however, at the time it was a job, and it only took me 2 weeks after signing on, so at the time it seemed a godsend. besides, no one made me take it...so all in all I'd say monsterjob.com worked better than going through any rl agents.

I almost used one of those agent job thingies once. They wanted like 1k for finding me a job. I got to that part in the application and snorted out loud. Then I stood up and thanked them for their time, handed them the clipboard back and left.
I went through another one that was non profit and i got a job interview the next day, but my current job gave me a raise so I ended up staying.

I'm using a job placement agency and am having mixed results. I am getting interviews ~ the bonus is that they've already tested my skills, so I can prove that yes I am capable of using whatever programs. The downside to my situation is that i want to move out of the field that i'm in and am having a hard time showing up front that I can do something other than what I've been doing for the last 15 years...

yeah I've been using the online boards... monster.com, careerbuilder.com, hotjobs.com, chron.com (local newspaper) as well as workintexas.org. I'm unsure if I should use an agency since I can't really take time off to go register at one. (And I will NEVER pay one for a job!) Now, I have done the online registration thing at several and even gotten a couple inquiries but those were for short term or temp placements and sorry but I'm not leaving a permanent job with health insurance for a temp one no matter how much this one sucks ya know? *sigh* I know there are jobs out there and I know what I want I just have to find it.. and sucker them in to hiring me! =D

where in texas are you? in the houston area there are 3 agencies (that I know of) that you do not pay ~ the employer pays all the fees. I think my "interview" with them took about an hour and a half ~ and since i had an appointment i was able to plan in advance, so maybe you could go late in the day? say you have a dr appt or somehting?

ROFL! Small world, huh?
Meador and AppleOne seem to be doing a good job ~ and AppleOne you can set everything up online and pick your appointment time there. I've gotten more interviews with Meador, but the rapport was better with the lady at AppleOne, which is why things are taking longer there ~ she actually grasped that I want to change gears and is working toward that. Off the top of my head I can't remember the name of the third, but i kinda blew them off after already having 2 to deal with!
