Man on Fire

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0328107/

Holy hell, this is a great movie. Really, I wasn't expecting much from this movie. Despite having an Oscar-winning actor as the lead, I really just expected an action flick. I mean, did you see John Q? Not that great. So I went in with low expectations. I was wrong.

So this IS an action flick, at heart. There's several scenes of gunplay. Denzel is a BADASS in this movie. But he's not just a 2-dimensional ubermensch caricature, his character has some serious flaws, and he goes through a transformation through the course of events of the film.

There's some really neat cinematography and editing in the film. There's also some neat things done with the subtitling. The story takes place in Mexico, so most of the spanish is subtitled for you. But in some scenes, even the english is subtitled. And they do some neat things with the subtitling, like having it show "trails" and having it in the background-- a character in the foreground moves in front of it and blocks part of it out.

And then there's the music. Lots of Nine Inch Nails-- in particular I think it was just one song, maybe just several remixes of the same song-- Reptile. Some other cool music too, in a rave scene. I found the score to the movie online, but I want a soundtrack, I'll see if I can track that down.

Anyway, if you haven't seen this, you should check it out. Very awesome.

I saw this in theaters just because it had Christopher Walken in it, then he wasn't even in it that much. I really liked the movie though. Denzel did stomp great portions of ass in this movie.

Hell yeah, how did I forget Christopher Walken as a selling point!?

He had a great line in that movie:

"Creasy's art is Death. He's about to paint his masterpiece."

I watched this last night. Seeing Cristopher Walken in it blew me away as I had no idea he was in the movie. After seeing his character I was convinced this had to be a great movie based on Walken alone. Great story, great action, great characters. Highly reommend this movie to everyone, I was far disappointed.

I do love the Walken; however, he is in the Stepford Wives and I don't think I will be seeing that anytime soon. The Walken was GREAT in Envy though, he was the J-Man.

To continue the tribute to The Walken, have you seen "The Rundown"?
Man, that's a great action flick. The Rock is the protagonist, and this is actually the first movie I'd watched him in since "The Scorpion King". And he's pretty damn good in this movie. But the badguy is Christopher Walken, and what can you say, he really makes the movie. If you like good action flicks, you should check that one out, too.

Yeah "The RUndown" is a pretty good movie. I watched it INdemand on Timewarner cable other night. First time i saw it, i hated the Rock in "scorpion king" so i was very hesiant to seeing The Rundown in the theater but it turned out to be an okay movie.

Yes, I saw the Rundown and loved it.

"I feel like a little boy who's lost his first tooth, put it under his pillow, waiting for the tooth-fairy to come. Only two evil burglars have crept in my window, and snatched it, before she could get here... Wait a second, do you understand the CONCEPT of the tooth-fairy? Explain it to them... Wait. She takes the god damned thing, and gives you a quarter. They've got my tooth! I want it back."

That's the greatest quote from that movie. The Walken always has good quotes.

That was so awesome. What makes it even cooler is that he was a Broadway dancer before he became an actor. Here is a link to that video: http://www.astralwerks.com/fbs/woc/

Also, in other Walken news, I hear that the Walken was inducted into the Walk-of-Fame outside Grauman's Chinese Theater, recently. From what I understand, he even used some of his old dancing shoes to make the shoe prints.

Anyone seen the original Man on Fire? If so, does it follow the original pretty well?

I have to agree on both here.

Man on Fire owned.

So did The Rundown.

I heard Man on Fire has 2 endings. I only saw one but I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen it. If you haven't, go see it now.
