Deviant Art

I can't believe that I haven't participated in DA until now! I can't believe how much exposure it gives to artists. I can also do art in any theme that I want! I don't have to do the same type of thing over and over again! That, and no matter how freaky or strange my stuff looks, there will be someone there in some part of the world who enjoys it.

Pretty cool isn't it? I'm just getting started there too, although I've had an account there for awhile and knew about the place for evening longer than that.

you have stuff that looks freaky and strange? all i've seen is stuff that's just downright beautiful!!

DA is just awesome - finally got my mom to sign up!

yeah what they said ^^
Where is your DA page .. wtf .. give it up. *taps foot*

I named it Wystro so that I'd remember it! My real name is in the details, but I'm hesitant to have it as the primary reference.

edit -- How do I make someone a friend? I'm the friend of other people, but I don't know how to make it work myself!

on each person's front page therell be a button that says Watch This Deviant or something like that, itll add them to your list :)

By George I think he's figured it out ;)

I have to use the damn FAQ anytime I use DA because I can never remember how to link icons or put up thumbnails of other people's work. I have no idea how people have those snazzy backgrounds for their journals either (probably have to be a member, aye?) and stuff. :p

Is there anyway to get email notifications if someone leaves a message? I feel bad that I go a while without remembering to check the place and someone would have asked me a question or something and I didn't respond. :/

Yay! I remember a comment being made just the other day that it was a shame you didn't have a DA account. Hope you enjoy being there. Best of luck with it and may you have many favorites! :)
Wystro 18 years ago
Thank you, Mai -- I'm excited to be there!

I am however just as confused as Beli. How do you get those backgrounds, and how do you get your friends to show up?
Lessa 18 years ago
I think those are all member things.. for the paid subscriber.. one of these days ill pay for it, i want a pretty front page too!

I guess i have to join in into this topic, since i registered there six years ago (yup, no kidding).
It gives talented artists a really great platform to show their work.

Damn, i'm still not a senior member... damn Admins ;)

I didn't/don't know how to make another deviant a friend either. So we just watch the account for new stuff and that ads them as a friend?
Sabby 18 years ago
You don't get the friends box thingy unless you are a DA subscriber. And then you have to go unclick the people on your watch that you don't want to show in your friends box... *runs off to do that because I have so many now... they need to give me three rows of friends*

:iconwystro: will give you Wystro's avatar...

:devwystro: will give you a text link that says Wystro and links to his page.

:thumb53393187: will link a thumbnail, just substitute the deviation number with the one you want to link. Quick way to do it is by copy/pasting from the Thumb box next to the comments.

To have someone on your friend list, click the Watch this deviant on their front page, and in the manage friends section of your page, make sure the friend box is clicked. I have my "friends" section seperated out into clubs, admins I happen to watch, stock/brushes for the few of those I watch, friends, and watched for folks I don't know but enjoy their art. I tend not to watch everyone's journal simply because you can get overwhelmed really quick. So I watch my friends' journals, and maybe the clubs and admins.

As for your journals looking pretty, it's CSS and yes, you have to be a paid subscriber. That's also the only way your friends will show up visible to others. I think that's also the only way to have a dev id but I could be wrong there. It does make browsing a lot nicer, because you can see thumbs of the deviations before you click them. I won't lie, you'll still get just as many time outs and server hiccups whether you pay or not, which I still think is bs. They seriously need more servers, and for those of us who do subscribe, you'd think that would give a bit of an edge to our surfing. Alas, life is rarely fair ;)

most of us are part of the tac-club over there, so it makes it easy to find us!!

go mark it as a watch and Roz will add you in!

I really appreciate the TAC club because I'm naturally bad with names and can't remember where I know a person from. (DA handles are often different from board handles -- I'm even guilty of this.) When a TAC exchange happens and Roz puts up a post with all the turn-ins, it makes it so much easier for me to visit each person's DA and tell them what I thought of their work. That way I don't feel like I've forgotten someone, etc.
