A good music service?
I'm looking for a good place to purchase downloadable music. I'd like a service that is:
1. Safe. I don't want to have to install icky spyware in order to get my music. This also means I don't want to download anything in RealPlayer format, or any other format I may not know about that uses a player that tracks my browsing habits.
2. Reasonably priced. A buck a song or whatever the fair going rate is.
3. Legal. I'd rather not have this coming back to haunt me. I'm willing to obtain my music honestly, but I don't see why I should have to buy three albums to enjoy three songs I like by one band, so I'd like to try this instead. All this isn't to say that I have a problem sharing music between friends, I simply am squeemish about using one of those big free file sharing things for both moral and safety reasons.
4. I hear some music services will let you purchase the song, download it onto a certain folder on your hard drive...and then never save it in any other format. This sounds like a crappy deal. What if my hard drive crashes or I have to reformat? Something I can back up in some way would be nice. If someone knows my options for this and can explain, that would be nice :).
5. I basically want to be able to download any song at all ever, but I understand that may not be an option. My tastes can tend toward the obscure, however, so a good selection is nice.
Any suggestions?
Info would be great :)
I haven't had any trouble with them. You pay by the month for unlimited downloads. The Limewire software is fast and has a good search engine for songs/artists.
Do NOT use Unlimitedshock.com. They're ripoff artists. I signed up, paid through Paypal, and lo and behold had no way of creating an account. Then, surprise surprise, their website was mysteriously gone. Finally got my subscription cancelled, after they'd already accepted my money for 2 years :( Yeah I'm an idiot. But I learned my lesson there. Their website is back up but you still can't click on any "help" type icon or link. Bastards.
(NOt that I have much to steal)
Incoming post from Anu saying how it is HIS iPod....
I'm just saying that I read that once about buying itunes music. But I'm not going to try it out and pay for music, that is just crazy talk!
