Lighting

Choosing the right lighting on my scenes is the biggest hassel I face. I can make a scene in ten minutes then spend six days trying to figure out the best lighting for it. How do you choose lighting or how do you do your own?

I dont think Ive ever yet used premade lighting set.. though honestly I most often forget about them.

If Im using a background like Cyclorama I will look at it and try to see where the light in the background is coming from, then match it with spot lights and directional lights, then usually Ill place a spotlight facing the scene as well, to light the front of the characters, and/or the background.

Sometimes I render the background separate if that causes a shadow to fall across the background.

I also try to match the colors to fit in with both the background and the character, using a white or near white light can wash them out and make it look like theyre standing under fluorescent lighting.

and most times, I will ask myself.. WWRS or even WWAS *nodnod* :p

i have yet to figure out the trick to real good lighting, so i tend to start with the predone light sets and then adjust til i get the look i want. there are a ton of freebie light sets over at Rdna that have been a huge help, and i've actually learned quite a bit while using them. and if I'm using a predone background set, i'll start with any lights that come with it. DM especially does a good job of setting them up to reflect the light sources in their settings.

Lighting has been difficult for me lately, so difficult its really discouraged me. =/

Never get discouraged, Roz. It's only a program. It's an evil program at times, but it's nothing to get frustrated over. Just keep working at it--I do.

You know they are set up for Daz Studio but I would try them in Poser. I use Poser lights in D|S all the time.
