C/C on NS

Is it me or do people hate me on NS? I never get c/c on my stuff and I'm fairly certain I'm putting it clearly that I want 4.9 (5 highest) c/c. =/ I know y'all here give me c/c when I post here so I dont expect ya'll to think of something else to post over there too, but honestly...do people hate me over there? =(

Its why I started posting less in the manip section, hell I barley read the manip section over there anymore. I think I'm HELLA far from being a great manip'er so I'm always looking for c/c, ALWAYS. Makes me sad.

I don't think it's just you. Whenever I post over there, it's usually the people who post here that reply to my stuff. It seems people tend to not post much at all unless they have a ton of c/c to add or you're one of the cool kids and they want to lodge their nose in your ass.

Us screen maniper's get the ass end of a donkey when it comes to c/c sometimes =( I guess people hold freehand in higher regard since most of it is all from scratch.

I know a lot of people post not wanting c/c and those people get more responses, I dont get it. My wiz sig for seregul is far from perfect, I just wish I could get more constructive criticism. You guys always give me a plethora of things to work on and seriously i love it. If I make crap, for god's sakes you guys TELL ME ITS CRAP. Granted if someone posts something pretty bad on NS, i just dont post because I'd be too nick picky.

God is that it, my stuff is that bad? /cries in a corner...eats a tootsie roll. Oh well, fuck it.

Your stuff is not bad! I've always looked up to you on the screen manips and I think you're ultra-fabulous (oh, and your sigs are too...hehehe)

:razz I'm thoroughly disgusted with trying to get c/c now. It'll be a long time again before I post artwork there i think.

behold the very reason i've been a member for 3.5 years, and just now broke 500 posts.

on avg. that means ~ 2posts per day for me.

which we all know is a crock of shit.. if anything i post 10 times in 1 thread, that counts as 1 whole week!

You're art is far from crap, and you know it. I personally didn't see your post for the seregul peice until this morning, after which I had already commented on it here. The forums are marked read for me all the time, when I don't even look at them. Just a bug we deal with I suppose. I know that isn't a reason for not getting hardly any CC on your work though.

When I first joined there and seen peoples art, like yours. I was too damn afraid to post CC. Why would I CC something that I couldn't even accomplish myself. I felt I didn't have the 'right' to CC until I was at that level. Yanno what I mean? There are alot of newer members there, who may feel like that.

You say you're not a great manipper, but to be honest, you're one of the best ones at NS. I still come nowhere close to ya. It's hard to CC a peice that you don't find anything wrong with.

What Immy said. I'm just now getting the balls to critique anything and that's primarily because I'm still working towards getting to be as good as you are. Take it as a compliment maybe ;)

When I first started posting on NS I remember a situation where someone posted a compliment to someone else's work in the CC5 forum (a compliment instead of a critique) and it was deleted with a stern reminder to only post if you have critique to add.

Since then I typically only post if I have something constructive to add, rather than just taking up room with "Gee Whiz! That looks purty!"

Unfortunately, you fall into that category. I rarely have anything to offer to improve your art, and I feel reduntant if I always post to tell you how fabulous it looks.

But it is not just you. I posted something in CC5 very recently (some fairy painting I did) and got one comment on it. *shrug* I can completely understand what you mean about wanting people to burn it up and give you real, honest advice on how to improve, and I wish it happened more often.

I will try to be more conscious about looking hard and finding things to point out, not just to you, but to others who I'm sure feel the same way. Admittedly though, sometimes I'm just there to look at the "purty art" and leave the heavy thinking to others - I just want to enjoy the view! =)

I need to check cc5 more then. If you guys post something there, drop me a pm since I dont check that section much anymore.
Guest 21 years ago
I'm guilty of that too. I should really check the c/c 5 forum more. I used to when it was first opened, but I felt intimidated because most of the stuff there was freehand and I'm not exactly skilled at that.

Also, the last time I gave someone c/c in that forum, they basically told me they liked the way the things I thought needed to be fixed looked and blew me off. My gripe is if you aren't going to actually consider the c/c people give and get all butt hurt when people point out something that could be improved, maybe your ass shouldn't be asking for c/c.

I'm with ya there Ry. I got a PM requesting CC, upon giving it I got a reply with, "Well I liked that the way it is, /sigh, why can't people appreciate good art and not pick it apart like it's something else"

WTF?

So yeah, if you ask for CC, be prepared to get CC, otherwise, don't ask for it. Simple as that.

Zoinks, that's not nice. I take c/c with a grain of salt. Not like y'all are being mean, but at first admittedly it was difficult =( I tend to incorporate all c/c unless the client asks for something specific.
Guest 21 years ago
I would think asking for c/c meant you were trying to better your art through other's opinions, not looking for reasons to get people to say you have great artwork. I think thats where some people get confused. They are looking for "grats!" not actual cc, so they get offended.

I think your art rules Mae.

I look up to you Mae. You should know that. Classmates ask me why I took graphic design, and I show them this site. Your sigs catalyzed my passion. One semester, and there's still much I can learn from your techniques.

Oh stop. :o No wait dont, that's cool. :teehee Actually I dont post my stuff on NS to get 'WOW THATS COOL' replies. That's great, but if they could tuck in 'but hey this could be better' that's awesome. I'm all for sandwich'd c/c. Good+could better+but hey still good=c/c to me.

I appreciate all the praise and compliments and I appreciate all the c/c too so keep it coming!

A big honking bump here, but hey I'm new here :P.

I think with all art message boards that get larger, there tends to be "generations of posters". While everyone starts getting decent C/C when it's small, once it gets bigger, the older bunch gets gradually replaced by a newer one. It's flavor of the month in a way. Not anyone's fault in particular, but that's just how things go. Now... sometimes there are exceptions. Like... some really old generation get elevated to almost a legendary status. The downfall to that is that they'll probably never get any objective C/C and their threads will probably be full of blind praises. lol. I've noticed one trend in the world of sig art though... you have to pretty much constantly crank out stuff or people forget who you are. I've had a few boards where I got a "hiya, welcome to our boards" after taking a short break hehe.

With all that being said, I normally don't post much C/C myself. It's hard for me to get a feel for who will become defensive and who won't. I know I remember seeing a post or 2 where an artist pretty much flew off the handle and thought "damn, glad I didn't post there".

Boy, that was a long and rambling post.
