Round 4 - OOC

Talk about stuff.

Den 16 years ago
Shot with a pistol.

While it may be assumed all the pirates carried swords, would they also carry pistols? Swinging a sword would require a lot less ability than having an accurate aim.

Does anyone besides Devilish Mary carry a pistol?

Going back over the mafia kills now to see if her bio holds anything else.

This hit is disturbing - especially the allusion to a dirty alliance. Santiago's alliance?

*is disturbed*

The parrot thing bothers me - seems to refer to the parrot's keeper more than the parrot *looks at Nick* but otoh parrots and pirates go together like peanuts and shells, so it might just be something to make the scene more pirate-y...

Like crackers to a parrot that you want to speak, gold was a powerful motivator.

Oh hooray!
Yes, I know that I specifically put "crackers" in my "likes" bit of my profile.
Mods would have to be pretty damn mean to be this clear cut with their clues though.
CaptainBinky 16 years ago
In other news... is it just me or does this sound like the mafia bumping off the SK?
MashPotato 16 years ago
Neither Captain smiled or greeted with more than a nod. Instead they eyed each other warily, like two alpha males circling each other preparing to fight for supremacy.

Is it safe to assume that the mafia is male, or is this just a figure of speech?
Verileah 16 years ago
*scowls at all men everywhere*
Den 16 years ago
Or a woman who can pose as a male???

I tell you, this kill sounds remarkably similar to the way Mary killed her Billy.
Tor 16 years ago
I agree with Verileah - I think it speaks more to the parrot's keeper than the parrot itself. Also, in recent rounds Caine was posting things that would specificly *not* implicate the parrot and the doorstop, which was odd after he brought them up early on.

I also agree with Den, and also have already pointed toward Devilish Mary.

I've an interview in a few minutes, but I'll post my two doubloons when I get back. Yar!

Good luck on your interview Tor!

I have next to no time, as I am home from work on my lunch break... some stuff that kinda pops out at me though:

The speaker for the mafia is referred to here as three things: Darkness, Death, and Deception.

There appear to be two speakers in the room. One mafia, and Ortiz. However, the shot fired from a well-hidden gun was not necessarily fired by the mafia speaker.

Are we dealing with two Mafia here? Or are we dealing with three?

I'm also curious as to the deal mentioned here. I am guessing this is not he Mafia bumping off the SK or we'd have seen a vote thread up for tonight (unless the mods are keeping us in suspense?). The SK still has a hit coming, because these things are done in a certain order... if the Mafia had bumped off the SK just now we'd probably know about it.

Rats, I have to get back to work... but will look into it further tonight.

I really think that the "clues" that have been given scream Mary, which kind of leads me to think that it's NOT Mary. Too easy, and all that. Like blaming the parrot based on the cracker reference... too obvious, IMHO!
Hiejinx 16 years ago
Just a thought:

Mary is not the only one that mentions a gun. I believe Snowdragon/Captain Caitri does as well. Captain Caitri's ship is also the Blind Ghost which kind of goes with the whole 'darkness', 'death', and 'deception' idea but hey, what do I know...

She always has her cutlass, flintlocks, several daggers hidden upon her and boarding ax on her.

I need also to check to see if the reference to 'emerald' was in the SK hit or the Mafia hit.
Hiejinx 16 years ago
If the mods don't post a voting thread for tonight, doesn't that answer the question if that statement about the alpha males was the SK and the Mafia? I would make that assumption.
SnowDragon 16 years ago
For your information Hiejinx there is a big difference between a pistol which Mary mentions in her bio and a flintlock. I wouldn't describe my ship with all those adjectives by just the name.

Correction here, taken from wikipedia.com:

Flintlock is the general term for any firearm based on the flintlock mechanism. Introduced about 1630, the flintlock rapidly replaced earlier firearm-ignition technologies, such as the matchlock and wheellock mechanisms.

Flintlocks may be any type of small arm: long gun or pistol, smoothbore or rifle, muzzleloader or breechloader. Because of the time needed to reload (the fastest experts could reload a smooth-bore muzzle-loading musket in about fifteen seconds),

So, to correct ye, a flintlock is so named by the firing mechanism, and pistols of the era were in fact either flintlocks, matchlocks, or wheellocks.

Snow, I know they make a flintlock pistol. They are not all rifles. I've even seen a set. Here is info on the flintlock. The only point I was trying to make was Mary's bio is not the only one that mentions a handgun type weapon.

If you want the pic -- see google. It was friggin' huge so I didn't cut/paste it.
Scottish Flintlock pistol: David McKenzie, a Dundee gunsmith made this pistol. The heart shaped butt is commonly found on pistols made in Scotland. The gun is steel with silver inlay showing Celtic designs.

On the adjectives I was just trying to point out the similarity of the chosen words between the name of your ship and the names the mods used to describe the primary chars in today's hit. Yes, I get the whole theme here is death, red, blood, whack 'em up, run 'em through, shiver me timbers scary stuff but when a thousand words will do there is sometimes a reason why a certain one is chosen. Maybe its just coincidence... I won't discount that, that shit happens... Or maybe to lead the thought patterns to darkness, death and ghostly apparitions. Who knows? It's all about speculation at this point and no one's speculations are better or worse for being speculated...

Personally… I’m liking Darsa

We’ve all seen the ‘blood red’ apple and wondered about it well… her flag specifically mentions ‘blood red’ not red, not bloody, ‘blood red’.

The other thing that we’ve all noticed is the parrot, now I’m not ruling Dominick out, but again we have a specific mention of parrot in Darsa’s bio it’s a bit of a left handed mention but its there nonetheless… “No parrot sat atop her shoulder”

You also see that the killer mentions having things in common and yes I know we’re all pirates and not the most honest sorts but Ortiz mentions specifically being a pick pocket and stealing what he can and Darsa mentions stealing what she could from the hauls her father and his crew were bringing in. Santiago Ortiz also mentions “Santiago’s thirst for riches hadn’t changed since his pick pocketing days, and was the most vocal in his desire to more aggressively hunt for treasure.” With Darsa you see “Her wealth is something no one knows the extent of, not even the closest members of her crew; she prefers it that way and keeps the information guarded closely. Her current assignation, obtained at a random port they had recently visited, intrigued her and promised to possibly be the most profitable venture yet.”

I’m not seeing any of this as damning, but it seems to be more than coincidence.

I am sorry Hiejinx for flying off the handle. What I meant was yes we are the two pirates with weapons (guns) mentioned in our bios I meant to say Mary's specifically says pistol (which was mentioned in the Mafia hit) where my bio said flintlocks. It may be a coincidence. But then any of the pirates could have side-arms and it just not be mentioned in their bios and the Mods took liberty to just assume they had a side-arm upon them.
Darsa 16 years ago
Yikes... I had to go back and look at my OWN bio; lol, I didn't even remember mentioning the parrot!

In my own defense, never in my history did I mention the use of any kind of firearm... I tend to think of firearms as more of a man's weapon. Of course this doesn't rule out women by any means but I'm leaning more towards a male culprit myself.

Aaaaand... my eyes aren't Spanish

Ooorrrrr... a woman who has impersonated a man, and uses a pistol...
