The MPAA, Hollywood’s governing body for film ratings, recently slapped the film adaptation of Max Payne with an R-rating and director John Moore (above) is a bit perturbed. The adult-only rating could have an affect on the box office take. But Moore also outlines what he sees as inequality in the system, saying, “The Motion Picture Association of America gave The Dark Knight a PG-13 rating and basically sucked Warner Bros.’ cock.”
What’s the problem here? Rated R is fabulous. It means blood, murder, mayhem, boobies…more boobies. This is a problem? PG13 is a rip off and the MPAA gives it to movies that has to be giving them a kick back.

PG13 appeals to a larger crowd and that means more money. A crap load of more money. This means parents don’t have to schleb their kids to the movies, they can go by themselves and go like 40 fucking times. There is no ‘kid’ price. Evening showings in the US are a minimum $8 and in some places damn near $10. PG13 allows millions of kids to the range of viewers. What does rated R do? I mean besides make me happy?

It automatically cuts millions off of an opening weekend (but again makes me happy).

I hope with the R rating they put back all the crazy shit that they probably edited out. Ok the Jonas brother’s are on Ellen, I gotta go.

I cant wait to see this one, but I am with you on this. If they are going to make it rated R add all the "too bad for PG-13" shit back in it.

Much like Jon Favreau did with Iron Man this summer, director John Moore has included a scene at the very end of Max Payne that gives you just the info you need to go into a potential Max Payne 2.

It's reviewing as the suck, though. =/

Omini went to see this with a bunch of friends tonight. He usualy tells me if shit is good or whatever since we are pretty close in movie tastes and he said that 6 went in to watch and 0 liked it ...

There aren't terribly many successful video game translations, so that's to be expected. It took a long time for the comic movie genre to take off, so it still might happen. I never played Max Payne, so I'm not sure how in-depth they got with the storyline. Was it really a movie-worthy setup? Did they do the storyline justice? Resident Evil did pretty well despite the massive changes, but they had a crapload of source material for background.

Kinda wonder though, would the reviews be as harsh if it wasn't game-sourced?

Just saw this on Friday. I'm the minority here I guess, cuz I loved it. I'm not big on R-rated stuff though. I like dark but not so dark that I gotta take a shower afterwards. Anyway, my point is that I thought it was great. :P I never played the game though so I'm not sure how true it was to that.

The game was strange, full of mind/crazy/drug trips and spooky voices and flashbacks, I have to imagine the movie is somewhat similar.

David wants to see it, I suggested he go with his brother hehe

They only say the F word once in the movie and it's Mila that says it. It was very odd - a Mark Wahlberg movie with no real cursing. However, he does his trademark swagger through this entire movie and the ending is kind of predictable.

It's confusing though - are there Valkyrie dark angels or are they just hallucinations? Decent movie though, I'd give it a 6 out of 10.

I liked it. Watched it a few days ago.

And the Valkyries are hallucinations. Its a drug that causes it.
ROzbeans 16 years ago
I thought Max Payne was suppose to be like Constantine?
Vishanti 16 years ago
I kinda thought it was more like Valkyries were real, but on a parallel plane of existence that humans could cohabit as a side-effect of the drug. I watched the movie while only halfway conscious, but wasn't there a scene where an addict was dragged out a smashed window?
