The fact that I've been waiting over 2 decades for this is making me feel less young.

I was wondering if they would ever bring it back. I remember it was huge back whenit first came out.. but it was scary to me ><

It was scary to me, too. But I was only like... 9 years old.
The alien spokesperson chick looks really familiar. Who is she?
EDIT: nm! It's the prostitute chick from Firefly!
...I think.

It's an ABC TV mini series I think although netflix has it listed as season 1.

She looks good with short hair. mmmmmm
It was a miniseries, and then 1 season of a normal series
Original 2-part miniseries (1983): http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0085106/
Regular series (1984-85): http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086822/

Our house was totally into it. We taped it and everything way way back in the day on BETA!

Jeez, I think I was the only one of my friends who had a Betamax. We finally got rid of it just a few years ago (and I was sad). I miss going to the video store as a kid and picking out both VHS and Betamax movies, then having the clerk condescendingly ask me if I knew what type of player I had at home. Because it's just impossible to own both?
I just hope I have someone to watch this with. It seems like no one I know recognizes it other than my family. My parents don't like it. My sister loves it, but she's in Seattle.

BETA lol. I remember those.
What is the story there? They tried outdoing VHS or some shit? Or came before VHS?

Beta was far superior! But VHS managed to make it cheaper and longer playing, I think. We had Top Gun on Beta, too. We were the first on the street to get one. It must have weighed 80lbs and was about 5 inches high, damn near two feet long. It's remote control was connected with a wire and when you press rewind or fast forward it would make this CHA CHUNK noise. My brother used to tape stuff at night, but I could never figure out how to use the sliding time measures - I shit you not, they were those itty bitty little clicky do things.
Ahh, the 70's.

The tapes were smaller, but they were still heavier. I think our Raiders of the Lost Ark tape is still around here somewhere.
This was our machine: http://www.palsite.com/slc6ovi.html
The wired remote is pictured on the Accessories page. I probably only used that thing once or twice. It just wasn't worth keeping it connected, since you had to sit close to the entertainment center to avoid tripping people with it.

hehe it was like HD-DVD Vs Blu-Ray only, you know, 25-30 years ago.
we had a massive VCR, I dont rememeber if we had a Beta or not. The hubby did buy one a few years ago cause he thought it was neat, dont think we ever watched it though lol.

Back OP lol.
My daughter and I were just talking about this on the way to work this morning, because she started watching the old series again last night.
She saw the pilot episode of the new one at ComiCon and said it isn't nearly as scary as the first one was, partially because the connotations to the Nazis weren't as evident, and in the new one there is no way to easily distinguish the visitors. (In the old one they had that vibrating voice thing). While the special effects and acting were pretty cheesy in the old one, the story seemed better done. Then too, Marc Singer was a lot more heroic looking than Scott Wolf (even though I think Scott is adorable).
We're both reserving judgment, and will be watching the new series at first anyway.
