Apparently they filmed in Hawaii and in 25 acres of tropical rainforest. He opted to stay ON THE LAND, not in a hotel, and went all fucking survivalist and shit. Gained 25 lbs of muscle and gave up sex to prep for the role. He nailed me, it...I mean he nailed it. /cough

And, no, you won't regret it, unless you have some strange aversion to movies that are awesome without being filled with action, violence, and gore.

Man, I thought we sucked you into seeing Brothers Bloom months ago Roz! It was indeed an awesome movie.

Why would he give up sex? Sex is good for you, it's exercise and stuff!

I'm not sure there's any scientific reason to do so, but there's reams of literature on abstaining from sex for physical training in martial arts. Except for certain Taoist sects (look what I did there) who thought either 1.) the opposite of everyone else, or 2.) that they could steal their partner's sexual energy.

They see sexual energy as the most raw form of energy, sort of like the building blocks of our body, and of our life-energy (which is further refined into spiritual energy). It can be somewhat replenished with food and exercise, but once you run out, you die.

Well, after all the talk of it in this thread, I just watched "The Brothers Bloom." It kicked all kinds of ass! There were two lines in it that I would consider some of the coolest shit I've ever heard said in a movie.
