"Pretty Bird!" --Sketch Topic for 9/5-9/11

No offense, "Cuddles", but the prettiest bird is a dead one.



Time: About 40 minutes.
Medium: Felt tip pen on the back of an envelope.

This was a lot harder than it looks. I have a program that will take any image and output an ASCII rendition, so I figured I'd try to do one manually. In retrospect, I should have used the program, and then just drawn the output by hand, but that felt like cheating. The bird image I used as a model was some stock photo from the interwebs.

I am ashamed to admit that I lightly sketched the outline in pencil before filling it in with letters in pen. I dislike the use of erasers.

I love that you make these doodles on found materials.....I hope your saving these.

Cuddles is offended by dead bird preference! That doesn't stop me from using my George Forman grill to cook chicken by the bird cage =)

If you watch Poltergeist with an ASCII decoder, that actually is the bird. I'm pretty sure P$ was involved in the special effects on that project.

"Dead Bird"? That's what the letters seem to spell...

And as usual, Wystro, yours is all kinds of amazing. It looks like you took a photograph and used a photoshop filter on it (posterize? I forget which one makes that look)... the eye, the little nostril thing, the way the beak is sort of tucked into the feathers... etc etc

There's yet another message hidden within!
