PUGGLES!
I've been promising Rob a dog for like 6 years now. "Not while we're renting." So we're trying to buy a house in the next two months and that means he's started the puppy badgering again, lol.
Rob wants a pug. I want a beagle. You know what you get when you breed a pug with a beagle? A PUGGLE!
OMG SO CUTE!

Jeez, it's fate, I swear it. Who knew that there was a hybrid pug/beagle breed? The more I read about them and the more photos I see, the more I'm convinced that this is the dog for us. I found a breeder that is less than 2 hours from us, and she will have some fall litters ready in October or November, which is EXACTLY when we'll be ready to buy a pup.
FATE.
My friend's parents have a pug AND a beagle. They're best friends :)
Every puggle breeder and puggle owner has posted that they are wonderful animals with the best of both parent breeds and usually without health problems associated with beagles and/or pugs.
I dunno. I can appreciate the perspective of a professional purebred breeder, and I do understand that there are irresponsible breeders out there who are running "puppy mills" where the animals are not cared for properly. At the same time, however, I'm sure that some of these "puggle" breaders are just as careful and knowledgable as purebred breeders.
I can't help but think that some of these purebred breeders are "elitists."
But that might just be a race thing ;)
Well, here's my logic in that. I'm not a dog person. I never have been, I never will be. There are dogs that belong to family and friends that I have grown to like after being around them. There are dogs that belong to family and friends that I don't like. I'm extremely uncomfortable around dogs who are "strangers." Agreeing to get a dog with my husband is a HUGE step for me.
I'm not opposed to adopting an animal from a shelter. Every cat I've ever owned has been from a shelter. Because I don't usually like dogs, however, it's important I know everything I can about them before I take one home. This is why I'd rather research a breed or a mix and get a puppy from a breeder. I will know what to expect from as far as appearance, temperment, character, activity needs, etc.
Blah. Snobby breeders.
I'm so getting a puggle.
I'm not a pet person though. I like to look at them, but I don't want to clean up after them or have them lick me.
Shame on those pure-breed dog breeders for getting angry about the puggles...muts need love too! My bf has two; a sharpei/chow chow mix, and a lab/dalmation mix. They are two really awesome dogs, and really cute.
I had to do a search because the link didn't work, but puggles are so cute! I'm a sucker for dogs with floppy ears...probably why my favorite dogs are dachshunds hehe.
When I was a small child, there was a dachshund in our neighborhood that terrorized me every day as I walked from the bus stop to my house. It used to chase me all the way home.
I wish I could meet that little punk again and see what he has to say now.
Some of those are cute. Some of them are rather ugly.
Probably not the most tactful thing you could have said.

They don't shed because of the poodle wooly coat, and they are often mini in size. They are very cute! I want to get one for my little girl who is puppy crazy but I can't afford them /sigh
O_o

Same can be said for every breed, really. I kinda like them, a few of the pics (link loads now, yay) remind me of floppie eared Boston Terriers.
I have been in contact via email with a breeder who is located about 3 hours from where I live. She raises pugs and puggles. I am tentatively interested in purchasing one of her pups later this fall and I've asked her if she would allow my husband and I to visit her kennel before we pay a deposit.
She has declined. I was a bit surprised by this. She says she only allows picking through online photos and descriptions. She doesn't allow anyone other than herself and family in her kennel due to possible spread of disease, etc.
I've never heard about this before, is this at all unusual? I would think that if you keep a clean and healthy kennel that this shouldn't be a major concern. My mother has purebred Abyssinian cats and she has a very good relationship with the breeder they came from. She has visited the cattery several times.
It's important to my husband and I that we buy our puppy from a clean and reputable kennel. A good friend of ours visited a kennel that can only be described as a puppy mill ... filthy facilities, malnourished animals ... it about broke her heart. :( I'd like to make sure that our puppy does not come from such a place.
Should I ask for photographs of this woman's kennel? Should I be concerned that she wont allow me to visit? We plan on picking up our puppy in person instead of having him shipped, so I'm now wondering if she even allows that.
I want a pug one day. Sheila wants a huskie.
Hmmmmm...
