Holy sh#t!!!
NOT BUNNY!!!!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
-ie I'll never hear the end of this on our own boards now... hehehe
Serious though, that's messed up, but I'm confused, were the killers trying to take Inaria hostage or knock her out to use her terminal and if so why?

Sounds like Lyn was the Sherif figure here:
It was a shame they were interrupted; Inara was confident she had found someone trustworthy to give her some inside information on their passengers, let her know who to speak to, who to look up and perhaps investigate further. Together they had researched one suspicious passenger already.

I was wondering that myself. Also if she was she ID'd a mafia before she died. Though it does sound as if the sheriff was another person who walked in with but maybe it was that Lyn was the sheriff and told someone else, an adult who could talk to another adult because people wouldn't believe a child. *ponders*

I can't help but notice that there wasn't a Serial Kill...which should mean that the SK is either toasted or forgot to post in a timely fashion (unlikely, though both Trina and Peter didn't post votes, so that needs to be taken into account). Off to a good start, if that's the case.

SK hit hasn't been posted because it's coming tomorrow. We usually do two RL days per game turn, last game was just an exception.
Lyn was not the sheriff. The references to the trustworthy person who has been meeting with Inara was the in-character way of introducing the sheriff's role.
The mafia were planning on knocking Inara out so that they could use her terminal to contact the Alliance authorities. However, the wrong person drank the tea and ended up dying.

So...looking at the clues...we have the tea and a desire for terminal access.
Anyone could really want that terminal access...the only people I can see as being disinterested in terminal access that are still around are Pei Pei...she seems like a pretty driven individual in the direction of bell ringing, so she probably wouldn't care....and Eliham, as he is blind, so looking up information stealthily wouldn't make sense since he'd have to listen to it. Still, since they both could use it...it is harder to limit this factor, so we'll set it aside and revisit later.
On the other side of the coin, we have the tea. There aren't any chemists, and poisoning isn't a common skill. The only folks with that kind of tea ceremony and poison training that I can think of would be Companions...pointing at Eliham and Sylvania, as they would have both had the Companion Tea Ceremony training, as well as training in various substances as highlighted in the series.
I feel like I am missing something, but that's what I've got so far. If any light bulbs go off, I'll let y'all know.

Doh, okies. So the SK could very well still be out there. Thanks for the clarification.
