Seriel kill stuffs now
First. The Talisman is simply how voldemorte possesses this person. He got knocked down at the end because obviously something had to happen to prevent his escape in the students body to continue the story and keep him here. I think teh Talisman dropping was just to show a little detail of the student suddenly being back in control, then picking it back up and being the SK again. I don't think it is a clue.
The whole scene seems to have a magical creatures care thingie flavor. I don't know if that is hinting towards someone big into that. Since only 2 or 3 people made huge deals of the forest and magical creatures in their bios - this seems like to big of a clue to actually be a clue. Aka if it was a clue we'd have the SK dead pretty fast with decent odds of tonight. Not to mention the murdered kid was into it.
Here is what I find most interesting:
"The student walked down the path out in front of the courtyard and past some commotion involving a snowball fight without even paying it the slightest attention."
To me this sounds like the SK didn't vote last night, and therefore was not involved in the lynch. I think this is perhaps our biggest clue.
Next is this:
"'Perfect' There was a student oblivious to everything else going on around him under a nearby tree. There were tools of all sorts behind Hagrid's cabin and a glance in that direction found something suitable. "
Why does Perfect have ' around it? Perhaps it's a sort of play on spellign and our SK was a prefect? Maybe a Prefect that didn't vote last night?
Also, would he be able to see a Thestral if the student's body had not seen death?
Another small one - the machette arched 'cleanly'. Wasn't there a mention of cleanliness in the last sk hit? The dusty ceilings and cobwebs. I know there was at least one bio of someone very orderly and clean. I'll check in a minute but if this person is a prefect and didn't vote I'll be voting very shortly ;p
Thats all I have so far.

Egon Locke is assumed at the head of all his classes (trophy of student services) and has a sneak-o-scope in his satchel.
Though the reasoning about the SK missing the vote is an interesting one. We know that the SKIDS were held up, if that's fair game to speculate. Though back when I was considering that before, it occured to me that it could lead to a doctor or sheriff as well as a killer. Given that the mafia is a group, the strict probablity would be 2 to 1 of hanging a beneficial player.
There wasn't a lynch scene, or I missed it. We sometimes get clues from those.

The 'apostrophes' are around it because it's something they're thinking to themselves, not spoken out loud. Your theory on that is a little far-fetched, Vulash.
David Trelawney was a mod character, so I don't think he really counts. Not counting Trelawney, it's 2 Ravenclaws down (Leroy and Michel), 1 Hufflepuff down (Alex).
In any case, I don't think that house has a lot to do with selection here. Why would the Mafia target members only in one house? There are a lot more factors involved, in my opinion, such as blood. Regardless of their own ancestry, Death Eaters usually target muggle-borns, half bloods, and mudblood-sympathetic purebloods.

Speaking of Em!
You're right the prefect line was probably way off. However, while I was going over the prefect bios more closely I found a few strange things.
First you enjoy flying - which was the SK's first method to escape the school.
Second - you have a tendancy towards clumsiness - and the SK fell down after watching the horse rear back. Someone very athletic probably would have moved while it was going down.
Actually that adds up to about shit as far as clues - Looking the other way I found you fit the profile sorta for the mafia I laid out too, but again vaguely so I guess I can't throw votes your way :D

Theres a quite a few clues in the mafia thread, but none of which single out anyone as far as I can tell. The SK thread provides more clues, but its still pretty hard.
First the SK is not a flyer, as he has chosen an evil horse as his means of trasportation. The SK is also quite adept with spells and whatnot. I has some other evidence, but it kinda contradicts itself.
Damn this is hard.

The SK's impulsive thought to fly out on a Thestral isn't the same as flying on a broom. If the SK enjoyed broom flying, they probably would have thought of that right off. I'm sure that stealing a broom from the school's broom shed would have been a faster getaway than crossing the grounds, throwing a machete at a student without being seen, and hoping that a thestral will come in time for a speedy escape.
In any case, there were several characters listed who enjoyed flying. They were all girls. I just don't see a girl being strong enough to heave Hagrid's machete (guaranteed to be oversized for that brute) at another student.

I think Angelina Atherton is the SK
Talk about themes:
First there was the whole clean theme
Angelina is
In the second mafia, there is talk of being "contrained" really there is better choices of wording for this paragraph, so I think it is significant.
Angelina has felt contrained by her family:
Vulash spoke about how the SK was easily knocked over, and Angelia just happens to be:
Her subjects seem to fit well with the sk (Charms, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Flying), and she seems to be a likely candidate for being the sk (call it a hunch).
I know this evidence isn't damning, but its the best I can do.
Talk about themes:
First there was the whole clean theme
mused absently that the ceiling could use a bit of dusting as there were quite a few cobwebs up there.
Angelina is
very neat and organized

Angelina has felt contrained by her family:
With both of her parents working for the Ministry, she has always been expected to live up to their high ideals while trying to break free of their shadows
Vulash spoke about how the SK was easily knocked over, and Angelia just happens to be:
Thin (if a bit gangly),
Her subjects seem to fit well with the sk (Charms, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Flying), and she seems to be a likely candidate for being the sk (call it a hunch).

And she indeed did vote, but I dunno, heavy enough to lift a machete, but easily knocked down (in response to it maybe not being a female) And I think Voldemort picked the horse since they are badass and evil. Brooms are for fags
Vulash

She voted, so that would be ruling that out as a clue if you're right.

Machetes aren't very big, I don't like using that as a clue. Brooms are indeed for fags though.

Someone mentioned that maybe the whole hooves and horse stomping = Equala Weir the horse loving freak, but thats abit far off. Although if the chance came up i'd vote for her just in spite because I hate horses.

I think that is really far out because it's a care of magical creatures theme anyway because of the victim. It *could* mean more, but there is no way to know I'm more comfortable dismissing it for now unless it keeps cropping up.

Is the SK possessed by Voldie? If not, the SK is a male.
Aparation points to someone who has already taken their OWLS.
If only apparation were possible within the school's grounds then HE could come and go as he pleased. Supplies could be gotten and followers (what was left of them) could be contacted. Transportation then was the first order of business.
Walking past the Carriage House sparked an idea. A Threstral! Of course! The student hurried towards the Forbidden Forest. Now some fresh blood would be needed in order to attract them and then an Imperius Curse to get it to do HIS bidding...

The SK is indeed possessed and all male pronouns can be considered from that per the intro to the death scene.
