'Crocodile Hunter' Steve Irwin killed by stingray

Steve Irwin, the TV host known as the "Crocodile Hunter," has died after being stung by a stingray off Australia's north coast. Irwin, 44 was killed by a stingray barb that went through his chest, according to police sources. Irwin was filming an underwater documentary at the time.


You know, a stingray through the heart.... never saw that one coming at all.

He was quite a character. What an awful way to go.

It is amazing that of all the killer animals he was around that fluke like this from a relatively "safe" creature would get him. It's a shame but you had to know something bad would happen to him at some point. I still really enjoyed the show.

Sooner or later this was bound to happen to him. It comes as no suprise to me.

Well, I meant him dealing with some of the deadly animals and reptiles in general in which he does and how he goes about it. If your in his profession for as long as he was - The #s game finally catches up to you sooner or later and your gonna have an incident happen and in his case, it proved to be fatal.

He'll be missed though, he was good at what he did and was a joy to watch.

You ever hear how the "Venom Man' Died? He was reknown snake handler for years and was responsible for milking some of the most dangerous snakes and saving hundreads of lives with their snake venom (ie he makes into anti-toxin).


He died from a spider bite.

Roz, I was at the swimming centre yesterday afternoon so my son could have swim lessons when one of the other mum's came over and said OMG Steve Irwin died. (well she said the words oh my god actually) From nowhere I just said CRIKEY! And they all looked at me like I was evil. I shrugged and said What?! Like he wasn't ever going to die doing something dumb and dangerous?

What makes me sad is that I don't get to use him for humor anymore in EQ. When I met new people from the States or Canada and they found out I was from Australia, the number of times they asked me if I knew Steve Irwin. My standard reply was that he is my cousin. I saw him just last weekend at the Australia Zoo for Bindi's birthday. They all believed me. /boggle

This is a bummer. I was up early today watching some national news show (today show maybe?) Anyhoo, I'm bummed. :(

whats odd is that last year i was looking into flying down there and being an intern for him during the summer.... i have 6 years of wild animal experience =/


i seriously cried when i hear this... yeah i know he was cooky... naming his daughter after a croc.. the holding the baby while feeding a croc thing( COME ON michael jackson aned britney spears have done worse on more then one occasion). but i really enjoyed his enthusiasm for what he loved..

I dunno where you got the named the daughter after a croc thing. Down here we have a summer weed called Bindii (pronounced bin dee eye) that has sharp prickles that plague the bare feet of aussie kids every summer. We call them bindi's and I just figured that is where he got the name for the kid.

his fave croc.... she was a golden croc, her name was bindi. his daughter is bindi sue.. alfter the croc and the dog

It's a clip from that show..So you think you can dance. This outstanding dancer tried to do a front flip, and he um....mis-calculated the move. He had a yamika (sp?) on. It was jared loose from the impact. ;)
