Alaska pics! - added more 1/03/07

I'm finally uploading my alaska pictures and of course I realize the ones of the house were sent to my parents on a CD =/ I'll talk more today and more of the kiddo running around in her snow suit with our dog. Here's one for now.

K current is on the top now:

Another alaska sunrise, new year

Alaska mornings

This was after a recent snow storm...one of many unfortunately.

The kiddo and the dog =)

This was the sun coming up over the mountains. We live in the valley so it was about 1130am.

Catherine crawled underneath the tree, best xmas gift ever.

Better pic of the dog for my pa. =)

This was taken riding in our jeep. We were leaving Elmendorf and I looked off to the right and rolled down the window. So beautiful, I love alaska.

I swear it was like god touched the sky. They dont make sunsets like this in the lower 48.

*********

This one is called, 'moose in my backyard...WTF?' Check the snow we got. More just came down last night. Whee.

K here's the front of our house:

Here's the back, but it looks odd from the side. Its a 2 story but with a finished basement.

Here's some of Catherine and the dog:

Catherine arguing with me about going in the house since I fell in the snow bank and was covered with snow but Miss 'I'm wearing a snow suit' was warm enough.

Here's one of her, Shadow our dog and the slut's boyfriend she just met the other day and has already tried to hump her.

Check it out, the sun rises at like 11am from behind the mountains (we're in the valley) and sets like at 4. Here's the sunrise and sunset.

Wow, they make igloos out of wood? And do you feed your dog shrooms?

Are you looking forward to 24 hours of light? (that happens in Alaska, yes?)

Edit: just watched the sledding video. That was great. And man that one dog was kicking the shit out of that branch!

Kinda, the sun will go down for, dip below the horizon so that you can't see it, for about a couple hours. Then the sun rises, you get around 19-22 hours of fun depending on where you are and the time of year. The summer solstice, June 22ish, you'll get about 23ish hours of sun.

It can get annoying when you are sleeping and wake up at like 4 in the morning thinking it is time to get up and work.

How long does that last? A couple weeks, months?
Vebran 20 years ago
Approximately 3 months. You get the 3 months of extreme sun, followed by 3 months of normal days, 5-7 a.m. rise, 8-11ish sunset, and then the 3ish months in winter of the darkness, then the 3 months of normal again.

Feb-May are normalish, with Aug-Oct being normalish.

Great photos !! Haven't been to Alaska yet (flown over it a couple of times) but I really want to someday.

P.S. Your daughter is cute and all, but where are the pics of camera shy Mom & Dad ?? Enquiring, and bored minds want to know.

Ah the stabby kind of icicles. How I remember those. Course I never actually used one to murder people. I just wanted to. North Dakota does that to a person. Honest.

Enjoy your frozen tundra!

I have some cute pictures of catherine running around in her bikini at the lake the other day. I need to post those. This past winter was a bitch though - so cold and so much snow. I cannot WAIT to leave here next year. This is our last winter coming up.
