Ok -- read this over twice now...and have read through several bios...but so far no clues sticking out. Need to read the rest of the bios before I can make a logical guess.

The first round is always rough. The nightmare about Flagg and the red eyes bit seem like just setting to me, so the only other things that popped out for me as possibly significant were sleepwalking, insanity (which were both referenced toward Vern so are probably setting as well), the grim smile (could be just about anyone), slow pace (hard to narrow down), the mocking tone (hard to narrow down) and the color gray (not particularly limiting either).

I'm not confident enough to point anywhere just yet. Anyone spot anything else?
