Say Anything.
'Say Anything' is a John Cusak/Cameron Crowe 1989 teen flick. ' A noble underachiever and a beautiful valedictorian fall in love the summer before she goes off to college.' This is actually not what this thread is about, but the message is the same.
Actually no it isn't, I just like imdb.com and the title sounded interesting. /snort
This is not necessarily a vent thread - far from it. This is about saying anything - weather, the bird outside your work window, the fundamental differences between Mormons and catholics, how Law and Order Criminal Intent doesn't get the props it deserves, that I always forget whether it's 'it's' or 'its', that my daughter has a beautiful smile and the first guy that breaks her heart - I'm breaking his knees...it's about anything.
So, say anything.
I have been playing EQ steady since 03. So I have a pretty good judgment on how the game has changed over the years.
The tasks/quests that you do now are more rewarding than ever. The end result nets nice loots and spells and not to mention, 4-6 AA upon completion (thats not counting the XP gained between the time you started said task to end)
XPing is easier than ever before. You can pretty much cough and gain 10 AAs these days. Leveling is also easier than ever before. There are hotzones where the XP mod gets up to 50% (it stacks with lesson veteran AA which gives 100% - So 100+50=150% XP mod) - So yeah, this is not your daddies EQ anymore. Everything is easier. The end groups zones are loot pinatas so everyone and their dog gets nicely geared.
Assuming you have the "know how" - You can level a character from 1-90 within a weeks time playing probably 3-4 hours a night. You can do that in even less time if you have someone power leveling you.
You can log on these days for 2-3 hours and actually get a lot done with the addition of mercs. You no longer have to log in and go LFG for 5 hours without doing anything. I actually like doing things with 2-3 people. 2-3 good players can do anything in this game from a group stand point with no problem.
The game is no longer a time sink. Its actually pretty fun as long as you are playing the game with friends.
Oh, did I mention that EQ has housing now? Yes, you can have a house now and you can get in depth with it and customize it in a ton of ways. You can showcase your weapons and shields and all sorts of stuff. You can make your house look like anything that you can imagine. Its pretty awesome really and its a game within itself almost.
The end result nets nice loots and spells and not to mention, 4-6 AA upon completion
Thank you for reminding me about spells in EQ. Another reason I'll never play it again.
WoW just did away with spell ranks, which were already an upgrade over the EQ system of having a gazillion spells and only using 10 of them per expansion. Now you just learn a spell one time, and it increases in damage/healing/whatever as you level up. The last time they had actual spells that you had to loot was like 2006.
Your characters do however have a ton of nice gear to slap on once they get level 70-75 or so. Assuming you come back!!!
Maybe I have a rosey view of the past or im just nostalgic of the tribulations and triumphs of my toons life but I liked the struggle of EQ. Course I quit in 2003 after 5 years for reasons unrelated to gameplay & structure but I do remember thinking that GoD sucked. A part of me is bummed out that people can reach 90 in a week and it took me forever to reach 60. (65 not so bad) But I do like to hear that its more casual, thats pretty cool.
I'd like to come back and screw around when I can Kele - Just hard with school now I don't even have time to play NCAA football much less an MMO
What is a DD? Designated Driver for Christmas?
If it's not, it should be!
