Run this up yer mizzenmast and see if it shivers yer timbers..
SOLOMON CAINE FtW!
Check it out...
STORY THEME
From the Mafia Hit:
The stories told that even pirates were reluctant to come this way. '
The rumor was that you could find the need to draw your blade at any moment and die for any reason.
Having heard many stories, the Captain suspected the meaning of this message.
There it was, just as the stories had always described.
Seems as though Caine doth protest too much...
Indeed Solomon Caine is most eloquent, although could you please explain how this related to Captain Caine's Background aside from his story having just begun?

FORLORN HOPE More than a ship's name?
Most definitely. If any of you are familiar with what the Forlorn Hope means, you're most likely fans of Bernard Cornell and his great soldier Richard Sharpe. To charge the Forlorn Hope, was to be in the front line of combat and attempt to force your way through a breached battlement or wall. There was a chance "the Hope" that you would make it through alive and secure the area, but it was a "Forlorn" one because the first attackers to breach the battlements tended to be bloodied repulsed or wiped out. To survive one (like Sharpe does) was considered heroic and could earn one promotions.

MAFIA HIT:
Watching one's back in a place like this was important if you wanted to survive.
Caine was the only officer to survive his encounter, and thus achieve promotion to Pirate Hunter... Along with a raise, a secretary, and a big, fast, multi-cannoned ship...
A Privateer was not initially charged with hunting pirates, but given the tacit (though not usually acknowledged) approval of their patron Monarch to hunt the merchant vessels of enemy nations and relieve them of their cargo. Many European Powers did this, most notably Spain, France, England, Portugal and the Dutch. Some Privateers did become Pirates in the course of time. Caine was fortunate enough that the Governor of Bengal considered the French Privateers to be a nuisance to be gotten rid of.
One Frigate against another would be an even fight. Three against one would be a longshot at best. Considering the Captain and Officers were expected to remain calm in the face of danger and walk openly amongst the crew (at least the British ones were), then the chance of being injured or killed was a very real risk. In odds of a battle like the one faced by the Somerville then it is indeed a "Forlorn Hope" that they would break the Blockade of Bengal and save the day.

Captain and crew made it to open sea just as the red rays of the sun touched the horizon. By the dawn’s early light, the Captain could see that it was already too late.
Too late by half. Hope there was gone. One might say, forlorn, eh?
and from the hit we have...
Even a craft as grand as this would have trouble when out-numbered.
Looks like a mirror's reflection of the bio to me...
Thoughts?
An East Indiaman wouldn't consider a Frigate a threat - three Frigates certainly. In fact Frigates from the Indian Ocean acted as patrol, scout and escort vessels for merchant ships like the East Indiaman.
Forlorn Hope - or no hope at all - would be on Captain Williams mind as he faced down the only two ships capable of mopping the ocean floor with the Aurora - a First Rate Ship of the Line and the Flagship of the Andorran Navy.

BTW: Rosa is STILL my pick for the SK. Can't wait to see that tonight.
Personally, I think Mystique is the SK, but if there's no hit tonight then it was FyreGarret or Vudu
