Gonna vote?

You don't have to say WHO you're voting for, but do you plan to vote? Have you voted already?

Yeah but with Democrats now pretty much in control of everything, it will all be taken away from all of us soon enough.

Considering what kind of shape we're in after 8 years of a Republican... I'm not sure there would have been a better option! =/
Lessa 17 years ago
bleh, it doesnt matter anymore.. whats done is done :(
Mylec 17 years ago
It wasnt 8 years of total republican control. And I'm not saying having republicans controlling the White House as well as the House and Senate would be great, either. Just saying with total Democratic control, spending will most likely get out of hand. I hope not. I don't agree with all of Obama's ideals but he does at least seem like a very intelligent man. I hope he can keep his party in check.

I didnt vote.

The candidates this year were the worse batch ive ever seen and I didnt even wanna vote for the lesser of the two evils.

'those black and mixed race people

I find this amusing in a way. How many Americans can honestly say they are pure blood? How many do not have English, Scottish, Irish, Spanish, French, Italian blood in the last 3 or 4 generations? And those generations ago, brought in the Black Africans away from their homes to be slaves, but now that slavery is abolished they don't give a rats ass about them?

Pfffft!

I think a lot of hate is gonna come out of this in the form of racism. Racism has always been there, but I believe it'll be higher than it has in years.

Times have changed. Republicans are not the small government, low-spending, low-taxes party any more. Both parties spend money (that we don't really have) hand over fist, and a huge percentage of it just vanishes into our enormous bureaucracy. The two just misspend our money in different ways, that's all.

I chose to vote for Obama partly because I side with the democrats on most social issues, and partly because McCain/Palin both scare the shit out of me, but mostly because of how intelligent of a man he is. I have total faith in his ability to make an informed decision in any situation. I trust him to not attack the wrong country. Also, to not become the laughingstock of the entire world for his inability to construct sentances.

At least Jesse Jackson will be out of a job. You can't play the race card with a black president.

Obama actually doesnt care to refer to himself as mixed.. from what hes stated in his books.. He would rather ignore that part of him

'I found a solace in nursing a pervasive sense of grievance and animosity against my mother's race.'

'There was something about him that made me wary, a little too sure of himself, maybe. And white.

'

'I ceased to advertise my mother's race at the age of 12 or 13, when I began to suspect that by doing so I was ingratiating myself to whites.'

just stuff like that that makes him such a winner..:shrug

Its funny how most people start off leaning towards liberal democratic beliefs when they are young and move towards conservative republican beliefs as they get older. I've seen it firsthand in myself. I guess its like they say.
"If you're young and conservative you have no heart, and if you're old and liberal you have no brain".

I'm just not a big fan of "share the wealth" socialism and government wanting to take more and more of what those of us earn who are responsible and have jobs and give it to people that sit at home watching Jerry Springer. I don't want that to sound as callous as it probably does, but I think we pay too much in taxes handing money to able bodied people who don't want to take care of themselves or putting it into social programs because the government deems it worthy. I give money to several charities every year that I deem worthy, which is how it should be since its my money.

But honestly I wasn't a fan of McCain, either. And it was nice to see that as a country we were able to vote a black man into the White House, it shows at least for now that we have come a long way. God help us all though if some angry redneck whacks him.

I'm amazed at what parents say around their kids. Either they're too stupid to realize that their children are listening or they don't care.

Catherine came home from school today and told me that a bunch of white boys in the cafeteria were talking about going to the White House and killing Obama. Also that he wouldn't do anything he promised to do. Makes me wonder how much of that is from their parents.
Mylec 17 years ago
Kids say a lot of stupid things, that's part of being a kid. As for not doing everything he promised to...of course he won't. He will do some things I'm sure, but not all of them. Has any president ever done everything they said they would? I mean, honestly. If we see ANY kind of tax cuts I will be amazed.

My mom said this morning that she heard on the news that they're talking about another one of those big "money giveaways" next month. Personally I feel that if they had used their brains they would have done it that way in the first place; what better way to make people spend their little bonus than to give it to them in the month of the big gift-giving holidays? Sillies.

Of course if they DO... I won't say no. :)

My daughter came home on election day.. they had taken a walk to the voting station and learned about it all.. She came home and told me that her friend had said that Obama was gonna shut down all of the toy factories and close all of the toy stores!

She told me I HAD to watch the news to learn allof this horrible stuff and I just couldnt vote for him.. haha..

Also my friend's son's schoolmate told him that Obama killed babies..

Im pretty sure alot of that is told by or overheard from the parents.. I still dont like the guy though.. and of course thre wont be any tax cuts.. or at least none that make a difference in exchange for the tax hikes he will add elsewhere :p

That actually made me LOL at first. Jesus, have things got that bad that there is now election propoganda aimed at children in schools?

Honestly, I don't get why people don't want to pay taxes. You want schools, federal programs, police officers, firemen...all those things are paid for taxes, right? I'll pay my taxes and if I get a tax cut, cool, if not - well that's the price I pay for living in the greatest nation on earth. I just don't get how people can say 'oh my hard earn money is going to lazy asses' when your hard earn money is funding the civilized country you live in.

That's me though. I just don't get it. I'm not rich by any means and I pay taxes like everyone else. I guess I don't look at who won the presidency in terms of 'what's in it for me' but as an inspiration for our children and...well for hope.

I'd say that regardless of who won - both men want what's best for the US. McCain is a good man, a war hero and hugs like a goofy bastard that makes me laugh. The president doesn't make the country what it is - we do. That's what we're teaching our daughter when she comes home and tells me these ridiculous stories. That's how we'll raise David, too.

However, if Mike and I can now walk into certain parts of the US and not get stares or get our asses kicked, that would be nice too. Hope comes in every color, every action, and despite who won, I'm hopeful.
