Honestly, I don't get why people don't want to pay taxes. You want schools, federal programs, police officers, firemen...all those things are paid for taxes, right? I'll pay my taxes and if I get a tax cut, cool, if not - well that's the price I pay for living in the greatest nation on earth. I just don't get how people can say 'oh my hard earn money is going to lazy asses' when your hard earn money is funding the civilized country you live in.

I never said I didn't want to pay taxes. I don't have a problem paying taxes for schools, police, etc (provided that there isn't wasted spending and its done correctly).

I don't want to pay taxes to support, as you said, "lazy asses". Sorry, that's just me. And its part of what makes this "the greatest nation on earth". When you just grab all the money and put it in one big government basket and hand it out to everyone, that's called socialism. That's what made Russia the greatest socialist nation on earth...until it collapsed. I believe in personal responsibility for one's self and affording everyone the opportunity to be successful. I believe in temporary programs to help people help themselves get back on their feet, but not permanent programs that let others live off of money you and I earn being responsible citizens.

It wasnt 8 years of total republican control. And I'm not saying having republicans controlling the White House as well as the House and Senate would be great, either. Just saying with total Democratic control, spending will most likely get out of hand. I hope not. I don't agree with all of Obama's ideals but he does at least seem like a very intelligent man. I hope he can keep his party in check.

I guess here is a good example of what I mean. Liberal democrats live by the belief that we are all moronic lil children that need to be taken care of, so, the best thing to do is take as much of your money as they can and give it to the government so that they can properly use it for everyone's benefit. Did you know right now liberal democrats are talking about taking away your 401k? Yep. No more investing in a tax free account to provide for your future. You're too stupid! Rather than you investing in a 401k that primarily deals in mutual funds (i.e. private enterprise, that thing that makes this country great and even function), or not invest if you so choose, they will require everyone to invest 5%, and only 5%, of your AFTER tax dollars into their 401k plan which will invest in government bonds. They will guarantee you 3% per year adjusted for inflation (isnt that great of them?) and when you retire you will receive your social security check that will include your new 401k benefits.

I can not even begin to tell you how wrong that plan is. On every level. This is what goes back to my statement about a Democratic controlled House and Senate with a Democratic president. I hope like hell Obama doesn't go along with shit like this. The problem is, if he does, nothing you or I do can stop it. This is why, though I didn't care for McCain either, that he would be elected to keep the democrats from controlling it all. Now I just have to hope that Obama isn't as liberal as most of his party.

Not to be rude, but can we keep it somewhat balanced and not start posting slanted statistics? I'm sure with time I could easily find republican controlled cities - or cities in states with republican senators that have high crime and poor education scores as well. Or I could just post the good statistics from Illinois - it really gets us no where but upset though.

While I probably wouldn't have put it *quite* the same way, I tend to agree with Gylius in that I really don't feel that something like that is feasible. I hope like hell, anyway.

I'm going to preface this first by saying, socially, I'm liberal. Whatever that means. I don't like people saying I can or cannot do something. Fiscally, I'm somewhere in the middle, or somewhere off the map. Economist maybe the easiest way to describe it, which is neither side really.

Everything you just posted there is absolute bullshit. Do you actually believe "liberals" are doing all of that. Or that there is some group plan to TAKE YOUR 401K? Reading that is like listening to Michael Moore or Ann Coulter. It's what I call race to the bottom politics.
