I just

I just got an F on an Applied Calculus II exam on monday. But yet i got all the answers right.

My professor said that i must have cheated. I did not use scratch papaer nor did i use any form of "work" on my test.

So this monday he said i have to take his "hand written" test and i must do the same.

If i (and i will) pass this test with 100%. Do any of you think this is grounds for harassment of anything of the sort?

Did you cheat?

no grounds for harassment ....

unless he touched you

everyone knows from day one of "plusing" and "take aways" that you are graded for shwoing work, not for answers.

Not always true, Maso. My calc prof in college didn't much care if I showed my work or not and I still got a 100% in her class, no cheating. Some people don't need to write eveything down and some may lightly pencil the work down and erase it later so the final work is neat (like me).

I'd sit in front of the prof and take that test with him watching the whole time just so at the end I can demand a written letter of apology for being an asshole and frame that shit up on my wall.

how ever as a student you are in no position to demand anything. To many people grow up after school and forget what college is all about.

School = go into a class and memorize what ever the teacher says. And be able to reporduce it in a format that he/ she finds acceptable on a test.quiz

then you dump it all from your memory sign up for a new class and repeat. Rember you are jsut at the facility for 4 years. Teachers have been there for 20 +. Its a no win situation. Best bet is to keep your mouth shut, not be noticed in class, graduate with honors. All real learning is done on the job post college. All a bachelors is good for is so that your manger has proof that if you say you will stick with something for 4 years you will actually complete the task.

We have all seen idiots with degrees. Hell you teacher may even be one of them. As a student it is not our place to tell that they are an idiot. Simply dont spend you money taking a class from them again.

pfft I had a different professor who was a complete dumbass and had yet to get his tenure. He's no longer working at that university. :evil

Well since i havn't been online i should comment i guess.

No Mae i did not cheat.

And as for Maso. This teacher is a dumb fuck, his corse description and shit says to turn in anything you want as long as you feel it is acceptable. I write neet and i have all answers correct therefor he is a cock.

Just a little update. He is now being investigated for harassment of his students by my dean since i went and talked to him. Once i ace his next test he is fucked.

Hehe, sorry dear. It was the obvious question though =x I'm glad your teacher's being investigated, he sounds like a pig. Good luck =)

Haha yeah it's okay. It is always asked. But with math i never have had a reason to cheat its all conceptual once you have it down it's easy and i guess im one of the luckyones with that. ENGLISH ont he other hand can die

I took a l337 5p34|< class last year

I've survived math since i was a freshman by cheating, and i've never been caught. I am the god of cheating

Gotta play the game while in school unfortunately. Actually a lot of math can be done without work if they're thought of visually. Problem is that the majority of the people can't actually do it that way so the school system have to use the more sluggish "show all work" method.

For me, school has been a period of head-nodding "yes sir" ing. It got me through high school. I spoke my mind in college. That didn't go so smoothly :).

hahaha Nice, Drogg

Ah hah! Student defeates the professor.

So this morning at 630am im siting in my rpofessors lecture room taking my exam while he's drinking his coffee and eating Krispy Kremes watching me like a hawk. So i did what any wise ass would do. I took my test with my feet flat and my left palm(since i am right handed) flat on the table, not to move them.

At about 715 i finished his exam and got up and move down a chair. He asked if i was finished i noded. He tells me to follow him and we go to his office to correct the exam. and Alas i got them all correct again with harder more indepth questions.

This is where it gets good. Today in our lecture class at 11am he had to formally appologize to me infront of the Math Department and academic deans, for his unacceptable teaching practices.

MUAHAHAHAHA i win.

I agree 300% with everything Masoyama said in this thread.

I do not mean to bump an old thread, or to hijack this with a rant, but it touched on something that I've actually been debating recently.

The lack of respect for teachers has significantly declined. You are there to learn. You pay to be at college. It is not your right to be there, it is your privilege. I was not there to know the circumstances, but I'm fairly certain that at one point your teacher must have said the appropriate format he wanted tests to be in, even if you didn't hear him correctly. They tend to be very particular about the format they deem acceptable.

everyone knows from day one of "plusing" and "take aways" that you are graded for shwoing work, not for answers.

Masoyama hit this nail on the head.

I'm sorry, but I fail to see what is so very hard about jotting down a bit of work on your tests.

Your teacher has every right in the world to fail you if he suspects you of cheating, and you do have to admit that in a class such as Applied Calculus II, not showing ANY work on a test looks a little bit suspicious. So him giving you an F in this circumstance was not him "bullying" you, or being an "asshole" or a "mean teacher," it was him doing the job he is paid to do. To make sure you get the education you are there to receive, and to be as fair as possible to the class as a whole.

I do admit that if I had legitimately passed this test, and had still gotten an F, I would be every bit as angry as you, but you are fortunate he had the grace to allow you a chance to prove yourself with a re-test instead of forcing you to keep the F.

Droggen, I don't know you, and I don't know the teacher or the school, and I only know your side of this incidence, so I do appologize if it comes off sounding harsh or bitchy, but the decline of respect in the school systems is really grating on my nerves. I also do feel respect is a two way street, that needs to be earned, and it is very likely all parties could have handled themselves differently. However, please, in the future, try to remember that typically teachers (and bosses/supervisors/authority figures) have a very good reason for acting the way they do, even if it seems "mean" to you. You will run across assholes, and you will have to go through things you do not like, but your job right now as a student is to suck it up and do as your teacher tells you.

When you do not, it is not only disruptive to your learning, and to the teacher, but to the class as a whole.
