Say Anything.
'Say Anything' is a John Cusak/Cameron Crowe 1989 teen flick. ' A noble underachiever and a beautiful valedictorian fall in love the summer before she goes off to college.' This is actually not what this thread is about, but the message is the same.
Actually no it isn't, I just like imdb.com and the title sounded interesting. /snort
This is not necessarily a vent thread - far from it. This is about saying anything - weather, the bird outside your work window, the fundamental differences between Mormons and catholics, how Law and Order Criminal Intent doesn't get the props it deserves, that I always forget whether it's 'it's' or 'its', that my daughter has a beautiful smile and the first guy that breaks her heart - I'm breaking his knees...it's about anything.
So, say anything.

If it pulled its family out of a burning building.. text.. if its jumping into a box no bigger than its head > video *nods*
Ok, seeing it pull its family out of a burning building would be cool too.. but I could live with text.
In either case, I too prefer news in text, though I try to avoid most news stories since they are so incredibly biased and you know you arent getting the full story, OR they leave out really interesting stuff completely in favor of celebrities and politics and you have to search medical or science journals or something for the information.
Ireland. Ireland? Fucking IRELAND.
I was willing to pay the funky funny money but it wouldn't let me =/ Blergh.
I think it depends on what the adorable cat is doing or has done *nods*

What science journals do other people read? Obviously I'm forced to read certain ones, but I'm curious to see what other people find interesting. I'm also extremely drunk and I've had to backspace on nearly every work in this post 0 the ones I didnt backspace in weren't obviously misspelled.
Regardless of alcohol I'm curious what others read.

I just typed a long drunken respones and it old me to lengthen my response to at least one character. WTF. Anyway - what science journals do you read? I'm curious (drunkenly) as a scientist what journals people read that aren't into the finer details of what I do.

the most recent Ive read.. how cool is that?
I'm into any kind of science really, I used to want to be a Marine Biologist ( when I was like, 8 or 9) then I wanted to be a Geologist ( like 14-15) then decided I wanted to be an archaeologist.. though Meteorology ( weather) and astrology ( space) are cool too... ><
My daughter now says she wants to be an archaeologist.. she keeps finding fossils in our yard and we have a large beach bucket full of them, and she collects bones. lol

I hardly ever pick up a scientific journal just to read it, but if I do, it's either Nature or one of the journals published by the American Mathematical Society.
My go-to guys for citations are the J. Amer. Math. Soc. and the Journal of the Association of Computing Machinery. Looking around just now, I found a few funny citations from the Journal of Molecular Biology (for something on genetic search/compare algorithms).
UFO Weekly
Only the giants in the field of ufology get to publish there.
Unexpected good fortune hits! I will be able to play WoW by the weekend! People are wonderful...human beings are my all-time favorite people!!!!
Aww, that's awesome, John. =) Did someone commission you? I need to commission you soon =X
Umm, as if I pay attention, I usually search and see what ones have the articles I want to read.

That's awesome, I keep trying to spark an interest in my niece and nephew. Even if they don't end up going into science, if you're excited about it it will make school much easier the entire way through.
It's funny you linked the arsenic thing - we had a lunch I had to attend with a guest speaker - a prof from ASU and he was telling us about how his grad student was doing work on finding arsenic based life. I think maybe he is one of the author's on the papers NASA is using - don't quote me on that though. I think his name was Ariel Anbar - unless I'm mixing my speakers up. It's all really cool though.
Nature papers are kind of cool because they are shorter, and have to get right to the point - so it's a good way to keep up with what people are doing when you don't need to read 6 pages on methods lol
