Say Anything.
'Say Anything' is a John Cusak/Cameron Crowe 1989 teen flick. ' A noble underachiever and a beautiful valedictorian fall in love the summer before she goes off to college.' This is actually not what this thread is about, but the message is the same.
Actually no it isn't, I just like imdb.com and the title sounded interesting. /snort
This is not necessarily a vent thread - far from it. This is about saying anything - weather, the bird outside your work window, the fundamental differences between Mormons and catholics, how Law and Order Criminal Intent doesn't get the props it deserves, that I always forget whether it's 'it's' or 'its', that my daughter has a beautiful smile and the first guy that breaks her heart - I'm breaking his knees...it's about anything.
So, say anything.
Sorry your power went out Roz, I think I would kill some one. Erik tried to use my computer last night while it was rendering and I yelled at him to leave it alone!!
'DONT TOUCH IT!'
'Why..'
'JUST DONT!'
One of these days he's gonna get punched in the throat....
It's like living with Peter from The Family Guy, I swear.
Apparently the boy half of the twins got a Step 5 today - that means the principal gets called, parents get called, wrath of God is bestowed, and of course in school suspension. He had done a failed 'impossible' on the cafeteria door.
'What's that? I asked.
They explained it's some sort of move where you pretend like you're going to kick the door, but stop just short - only he failed and nudged the door.
'Dang boy, you need to calm down in school,' I said. Then the door bell rang - it was their mom.
So I'm chatting with her and the kids start to tell her what happened. I said, 'Oh boy, you're in trouble.' And then something curious happened.
The kids told her what happened and said that the 9 year old twin was kicked off of the Math Relay team because he got this Step 5. Their mom said, 'Uh uh, no way.'
Here we go, I thought. She's going to open up a can of whoop ass on her son.
'Where were the teachers?'
I looked at her.
'They weren't there.'
'So no one saw you do it?'
Imagine the look on my face.
'Then no, they're not kicking you off that team.' Then she turns to me and says, 'They called me at school, saying they'd send me the bill for the damage...'
'Holy cow, there was damage?'
'So they say - but he wasn't under my supervision, so I told them to give the bill to the teachers who should have been there. He was their responsibility, not mine.'
'...Uh....wha...huh?'
So is it just me or does that seem odd to y'all? I would've asked Catherine exactly what happened and then talked directly to the principal, etc, and then take into account that yes - catherine did kick this door and yes, she knew better. The damage is something else entirely, but I'd ask Catherine if her actions were reasonable or out of line. Did she know better and more importantly, will her willowy little ass be doing it again?
When the mom said 'oh no, he's back on the team' the kid smiled. I was like...wtf? He admitted to kicking the door, albeit not hard, but still - he kicked the fucking door at school. The teachers should have been there, yes, but what is their mom teaching them? That just because no adult SAW him do it - that they can't prove it therefore he's off the hook?
Is it me or is that crazy as shit?
Some people really shouldn't be parents.
Id want to talk to the teachers/principal.. whoever called the meeting of course.. and Id want to see the door.
Kids being kids is a stupid thing to punish for, if he was intentionally trying to damage property, thats different.
OMG Star Trek was AWESOME!!
:looney:looney:looney:looney:looney
Wasn't it?!?!?! I want to take Catherine to it like RIGHT NOW! lol
Now, I could see, sitting on the sidelines at recess, maybe in school lunchtime detention.. or writing sentences something like that for goofing off (between classes) would be reasonable. But full day suspension, calling parents out of work, banning from a sports team, is just rediculous, unless there was a fight, mouthing off, bad attitude, or repeated behavior involved.
However, Mike brought up an interesting point. Earlier the mom had told me that she was pulling the kids out of school for the 4th grade because of problems their 10 year old was having with his 4th grade teacher this year. The mom might have just said fuck it out of frustration with the teachers - seeing how they weren't there to supervise the 3rd grader. For me, regardless of the issues with the teachers, I'd still explain to catherine that horseplay that can result in damage is not allowed in school. Period. She keeps her hands and feet to herself and to remind her that she knows what is right and wrong.
/shrug
'Oh my god. He's pulling you over in the SCHOOL PARKING LOT. OH MY GOD. MY FRIENDS WILL SEE ME!!!'
'Catherine, calm down.'
'OH MY GOD.
'Ma'am do you know why I pulled you over?'
'Actually, no I don't.'
'Oh my god.'
'You rolled two stop signs.'
'No I didn't.'
'Oh my god...'
'I saw you ma'am, you did.'
'And I saw YOU. I did not.'
'Yes you did.'
'No, I didn't.'
'I saw you.'
'I saw you, too. Why would I roll a stop sign...twice...looking right at you?'
'Oh my god, oh my god.'
So the cop and I argue for a minute and then he takes my info. Catherine is mortified.
'Catherine, go to school.'
'Oh my god, oh my god.' She kept muttering, I swear.
The cop ended up giving me a warning and we laughed about it. I still insisted I didn't roll them, he said I did. He was cool and I apologized (but still insisted I didn't) and then thanked him. He even apologized for pulling me over, which I thought was cool but told him I understood he was doing his job, yadda yadda yadda, but I still didn't roll them. He walked off laughing.
Catherine looked like she was going to puke as she got out of the car, hehe.
The Tax Lawyer called yesterday, and we can claim our children again without being sued by the IRS yay! Oh and they wont try and claim our property and freeze my bank accounts anymore! *dance*
However, they wont be paying us back the last ten years worth of refunds.. *grumbles*
I may end up putting my kids in a different school next year due to my son's fourth grade teacher. He went the first 3 semesters getting A and B grades, then this last quarter we get a midterm and hes failing all but math (which is a B) This is the first I learn of this. At Midterm!
So I go down there and ask her wtf? She says shes tried everything and she just cant get him to communicate with her and theres nothing else she can do and why does everyone always blame her for everything?
So I tell her that nothing has changed at home, our schedule, family life, recreation, home attitude, everything is the same as its been all year.. and grades dont drop like that without a reason, and it just happened to start when she started forcing them to write everything in cursive, unless shes changed something else during that time too.
And I told her that unless she could figure out how to grade my son for what he knows (cause he does know the subjects, she just cant read his handwriting, in cursive) Then we will have to find him another school.. because shes to be his teacher next year too.. I so wanted to slap the wench.
She repeated the why me, I didnt do it its not my fault blame the 9 year old bit, but seriously, if she doesnt know how to teach him, shouldnt I find someone who can?
