WoW all the way...
It beats EQ out in so many aspects, it's not even funny.
Mainly, I love the quests...some of them are really fun and they definitely put a lot of thought to them.
The PvP definitely 10x better than what EQ had to offer. I played on Rallos Zek (EQ) , the no holds barred pvp server, and that was hell on earth. It's cool to be able to pvp when you want to and for a purpose, to defend your homeland or wreak havoc on the Horde. Yea, WoW still has some PvP issues needing work on but it's SO much better than EQ.

Don't waste yer time on EQ2 IMO. WoW is visually better, quests are better, and I like the PvP even on the PvE servers. I like the feeling of accomplishment even if I only get to play an hour a day. But that's just my opinion.

Are we comparing EQ2 or EQ against WoW?
If we're comparing EQ2 against WoW...
I've played both and I've enjoyed both. Each has a different approach to the MMORPG and, IMO, each is successful. The art styles are contrastingly different - so much that I wouldn't say one is better than the other. That's like comparing a rock album with a rap album - each can be successful, but unless you start mixing in personal preference, it's difficult to say one is better than the other. Both games have diverse questing systems that are key to success in the game.
Where the two games diverge are play style. Do you like PvP or PvE? Do you prefer to spend the majority of you play time soloing or grouping? If you enjoy soloing and PvP, then WoW is probably the game for you. If you prefer to hunt in groups and have no desire to play in a PvP environment, then EQ2 would be a better choice.
Yes, the differences in the game can be broken down into further detail, but these are the big items. Do I think EQ2 or WoW is a better game? No. Do I think one of them is a better game for me? Yes. I think anyone could find either game enjoyable to start, but it's the overall design of the game that will give it longer staying power with an individual.

It seemed to me that EQ II was same shit different day. It's very group intensive with the same types of class roles. I thought the graphics were bland too, to have such high system requirements. I know WoW's graphics are kinda "cartoony" but they grow on you.
WoW has so many different aspects to the game., it's like several types of games in one. Everyone can solo. You can group for the harder stuff/better loot. You can run around with a friend w/o a healer/mezzer whatever and kill stuff all day. You can attack the other sides cities. You can PvP if you want. Tradeskills are not impossible to lvl after you get so high.
I played EQ II for about 3 weeks, tried WoW, cancelled EQ II and I am still playing. I play on Kargath and there has never been a que, unplayable lag and it's only down when everything else is too (so far).
I guess I could see WoW not being "hardcore" enough for some. It's just a lot of fun.
Edit: oh yeah, there are quests out the ass with good loot in WoW.

Think Im gonna finally give Nalla the /delete she deserves and move on to WoW. Since the merger with DB Ive had no interest to play and EQ just fuggin sucks now. /shrug.
Not that DB had anything to do with that, i wasnt implying that, just I dont like it anymore.

I like the rewards (for the most part) for questing better. Loot and XP. After reading Ry's post, I'll have to say that I agree with her. For my play style, and lack of time, WoW is a better fit for me. I would rather solo, because I don't have a lot of time to play, therefore not a lot of time to LFG before I get something done.
Graphics...Models are more realistic, but textures in WoW are better, giving the Illusion of realistic. I guess is how I can put it. Less poly's = softer system req's. WoW's textures are more vibrant and you can actually move inside the big cities.
Both do have a ton of quests, that can be fun, it just seems as though you really have to work hard, and spend a lot of time in EQ2 to get something accomplished. EQ2 IS very group dependent, and again, I don't have time to LFG before accomplishing something.

I have to agree with you there, rikr, and Im glad you posted that. I need something I have more time to do as well. /shrug In EQ (according to some.. ahem no names) if you dont play 24/7 then you suck and are a nobody, im ok with being the same nobody i was before, but some like to throw that in your face. Id rather play something I have time to play, not log in for 4 hrs to fail at some stupid raid.

Only issue I have with WoW is I really miss raiding. I mean there is raiding, but I dunno...nothing beats an EQ raid imo. Maybe it's just that none of my toons are high enough level...cause I keep raiding in EQ lol

I see your point Gilly. I enjoyed raiding, when I had time to do so. I haven't done it in so long, I'm just happy to be playing and progressing. LOL If I had the time to be hardcore, I would still have an EQ1 account.

Roz, you just have to try them to decide for yourself. I hate the way EQ2 looks and feels. I love everything about WoW, except for the current queues to log into my server.
I love WoW for all the reasons above and one more. Play has not been trouble free, but I feel that Blizzard is at least attempting to address the problems and they are actively working to fix them. I never had that impression from Sony.
If you want to give WoW a test run, PM me and I will let you borrow my account.
edit: I have a connection at Blizzard, I *may* be able to get you you're own account. I'll check with him tonight and let you know.

HAHA I've gotten a lot of offers to have it sent to me. The bardo doesn't want to try it yet, but I do =( I guess I'll just wait till all the server issues are done with IceCrown since I'd try that server first I think. We have buddies on another but i'm sure they're way high level by now, granted so are people on IC. I dont know. Eq is still fun. Thanks for the offer to help though y'all =)

I have played EQII since beta and am still rooting for EQII.
First of all, I agree to the reasons people don't like about EQII:
1. Machine requirements too high
2. Graphics are more real, but for the same reason, the reality of the details reveal more flaws with the models. WoW is smart to not go that route.
3. Certain fun is out of reach for casual players.
4. Certain fun is out of reach for solo players.
5. Linear progressing route and the many restrictions split off friends.
But it was also the first game that really got me excited and kept me playing for over a month after EQ. Here is why (keep in mind that some of the reasons are simply because of my luck):
1. The world gives me real sense of adventure, both visually and game-play wise. Let me quote the Owl for a definition of "adventure" (emphasis mine):
"Oh, how I envy you
Not everyone has the chance
To face the unspeakable terrors
Of the great unknown
Today's the day
In only a matter of moments
You'll all be on your way
What lurks around the corner
Not a soul can say
But I can guess
More or less
Hidden dangers
Great duress
Ah, the moments of glory
Is close at hand
It's gonna be grand
Adventure is a wonderful thing
Pack only the essential
I'll tell you what to bring
Your strength
Your nerve
Your hearts
Your wits
And for skullosaurus attacks
First aid kits
Adventure is a hoot and a half
You'll face unearthly dangers
And look at them and laugh
The claws
The teeth
The chase
The thrillYou'll never want to come home
Maybe you never will
That's the beauty of adventure
It's strictly sink or float
It runs you 'til you're ragged
Then it grabs you by the throat
You struggle to survive it
Though the chances are remoteHoo, hoo, lucky you
Wish I was coming too
Adventure is a wonderful thing
I almost forgot the very best part
You not only get to save your friend
From the most dangerous place
Namely Skull
But from the most dangerous part
Of the most dangerous place
The eye of the skull itself
Oh, bother
And you
General Pooh
Off you go
Marching high and low
Your friend
Waits at the end
Right here
Take a look
The map is perfectly clear
With your excellent sense of direction
You've nothing to fear
Through the quicksand
Tempting fate
And fighting spasms
Dodging avalanching bouldersRemember, Christopher Robin's fate
Rests completely on your shoulders Pooh
Excuse me Owl
It's up to you
That's the beauty of adventure
The trembling and the dread
Oh I can't think of another thing
I'd rather do instead
Perhaps you could join us?
No, no, you go ahead
Hoo, hoo, lucky you
Tally ho, and toodle ooh
Ready now, noble chin
Chest out, tummy in
Make a fracas, have a fling
Drop a postcard, give a ring
Get the lead out, time to swing
Whoop dee doo, and badda bing
Adventure, is a wonderful thing
I salute you
And those of you doomed to never return
I salute you twice" - I love this line LOL;
I feel that in EQII, every time I am barely old enough to enter a zone, I feel the sense of adventure that I am thirsty for.
2. Group dependency helps build tie knits with friends, when managed correctly. A character I have hunted with through some pretty challenging hunts actually has a special place in my heart. I feel that I really know this person. I feel that I am looking in to their souls and finding that special traits I admire or despise. The game simply reveals a lot more characters of a person. Whereas in a game where you can solo everything just about, I don't get to know anyone that well.
3. Raids, yeah I still enjoy raids.
All in all, it's world that extends my RL world in a special way, which I find absent in other games including WoW.
