When was the last time you did an antivirus scan ?
in the last 2 days, i've removed 13 viruses that i got just from browsing WEBPAGES.
I got an additional one tonight sent directly to me from a friend on my MSN list. as soon as i double clicked the file, my computer acted weird, my right mouse button stopped working, i rebooted and it fixed it. But i IMd him and said "wtf?" and he said "*i* didnt send you anything, but a virus on my computer did"
and not even 2 mins later, a friend IMs me and says "heh your computer sent me a virus through MSN"
i urge you all to do this weekly. Viruses suck, and they spread moreso online than they do in RL.

I did one 2 days ago.
I was in the middle of making a base list like RoTF has and after I was done, I hit the post button. Ugh. Only to have my browser take me to the log-in page. Which of course, wiped all I had typed up. Then I noticed all the posts I had made that day and the ones I had made in the last couple months were gone. Then my copy & paste wasn't working, shortly followed by my mouse taking a crap. I ran ad-aware and found 3074 corrupt files. Installed Mozilla and haven't had any issues since.
Needless to say, I'm paranoid now and will probably run it weekly.

I have my scanner set to scan upon turning on, and then every three days like clock work. It takes awhile to get the puter up and running in the mornings, but I just go make coffee while I wait.
I also do ad-aware every three days and my email scans everything before I open it. (one of the perks of your hubby working for the hanchos that own the email thinger)
I have never had a virus on my computer and by scaning so often I only get one or two corrupted files a month on Ad-aware.

Vex if you are using Norton, set it up to update and scan daily at a certain time (some time that you have the computer on but are asleep or something).
This will help keep you protected and not interfere with your work hours.
Also, check the properties and make sure the actions are 1. fix, 2. delete. Forget that quarantine crap. That is only for people who have to find the source of the virus. You probably don't care, you just want to be protected.

OH yeah and find a free version of SpyGuard. It will stay loaded at all times and block any spyware from being installed when you visit webpages and such.

Hmmmm - I use SPYBOT search & destroy for my little friends who try to jack my computer or IM chat list. And i use POPUP blocker for those pesty pop ups... Both of which were free... I downloaded them from the net. I also downloaded a personal firewall which was also free, not that shareware stuff... Most things and protection can be found free online, people make a good thing & usual offer them free (a little contribution never hurts). Usual if you have 3 to 4 levels of protection for your computer & run things through a router using different ports than the defaults setting you should be straight... :hide
