The pictures are missing but this is how I used to do a simple border.

Don't mind the ghetto sig, just check the border.

Cool :)
Oh btw, back on original topic. The admin of my guilds forums has asked me to tell him everything that has happened so he can sort out any remaining issues (I.e someone is obviously still bitching about me). He is taking the copyright seriously, and thankfully doesn't seem pissed at me like half the rest of them are >.< He told them to lay off cos I was just posting out of concern bla bla bla and not to flame anyone in particular. So at least someone is on my side :)

a while back i had MY OWN sig taken... all they did was remove my name and put theirs it was crazy.. i'm like WTF THAT IS MY FUCKING SIG.. i contacted the webmaster to the site and she actually did the sig for the person using it and i asked her to remove it and next time leave it to the artists... dont cut and paste my shit without asking/giving credit

Might point out jet, that alot of those other sigs by that person are "borrowed" art as well, you just dont happen to know who the original author is. If the person who made the sigs though could draw/paint/render like that though she/he wouldnt be stealing art hehe.

Yeah unfortunately it's up to the individual artist to defend their own copyright. And if you don't defend yourself in every instance, then you can't fight someone who ends up making money off your work - because they could just point to all the instances where you've allowed someone to use your artwork. It's really not an issue of being mean.
Of course if y'all want to make tubes or whatever and give them away, that's your business, but it seems to me that there is plenty of free stuff out there already and people are still stealing stuff. It's nice that you want to make sigs for guildies, Jet, but in general (as in, if I'm not friends with the people) if someone doesn't want to pay for custom work I'd point them to DA and free stock sites.

*wonders if she still has that stack of Genie Pants in the closet*
I was in a guild with someone who messed around with making sigs out of cut-n-paste pics that she obtained from a site that did just that. Wish I could remember the site... Anyway, the wrongness was actually brought to her attention but she completely poopoo'ed it, saying that if there's a site for it where lots of people do it, that it must be fine to do. Sigh.

I wonder...do you guys think on DA if some one randomly faves like half your gallery and they themselves have no pictures in their gallery...is that a reason to think they are some one trying to rip you off? Or what? I just dunno anymore. I hate watermarks but maybe I should go back to writing my name in huge ass letters...

I dont know, there are a number of people that fave almost everything I post, some comment and some dont, and a few dont have a gallery of their own.. Ive wondered the same bt no clue how to tell.

you can choose the watermark in deviant art and theyll apply it to the full size image.

When I'm in the midst of a commission, and send a WIP to the customer for their input, I always type out my email addy in big ol' letters with Photoshop, and then lower the opacity and rotate it so it covers part of the face and part of the body... that's my watermark :)

Because I am a sap and I felt bad for making the girl remove my sig even tho it was a HORRID hack job... I made her a new one... told her not to expect too much because I wanted to do it in under two hours (Ha, like anything is ever under two hours.)

I have been however going back and forth with the webadmin who basically told me he doesn't believe I am the original artist of the work in her signature.
So in other words, as long as someone else hacked it before they hacked it it is okay to him.

I for one, in this instance at least, without being able to say with 100% certainty that it was a copy of your artwork (given the fact that you stated it was altered and I didn't get to review the 2 copies), and with no legal proof of the same and without knowing that the person knowingly and willingly took that image, removed your information, and used it as their own, would not have forced them to remove it. Again, in this particular case anyway, because of the un-clearness of facts. In some other situation, I would be very supportive of forcing someone to remove an image if I was certain infringement did indeed occur.

It doesn't matter if they KNEW they were using stolen art or not...fact is it was stolen, period. People have go to learn that when they use art for sigs or whatever that they didn't make themselves, they ARE going to run into trouble. Saying "I just found it" or "it said on the site it was free to use" just doesn't cut it these days.
