NOTE:

Any medium is welcomed in this event. TAC events are NEVER exclusively 3D, so feel free to try a new medium or embrace your own: vectoring, pixel art, freehand, etc.

REQUIRED

:

As with all TAC events - signing up means you will provide (at least) 1 desktop size portrait of the person who's name you were given, and I'm asking that you also include a sig this time as well. Most do anyway. It's just nice to have something to use on the board to show off.

Please do not show the art off until the turn in date - March 6th - It's all secretz!

From Roz-

Please use your time wisely - any late turn ins will result in being banned from future TAC art events. We take this very seriously and we do not want to see ANYONE empty handed. If there is a reason YOU CANNOT TURN IN ON TIME - please let Eve or Lessa know AS SOON AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE. Or I swear, I will lose my shit. I am not kidding. =( Seriously, please let them know before the turn in date so they can make arrangements for your person not to be empty handed. All I ask is common courtesy. =) Sorry for getting angry there.

If you would like to turn in early, please upload them (somewhere not viewable in a public gallery please) and send the link to both Lessa and Eve either in a PM here on TAC, or a note on DA. If you get it finished, get it loaded up! That way even if something happens to your puter, you've already got a copy of your gifts out in cyber space.

Lessa and I are looking forward to running another event this Spring- please tell your friends - everyone is welcomed to participate and there is NO MINIMUM POST COUNT required.

FIRST! (granted it's a placeholder)

-Character Name: Enaldie ('Just' Naddie) Nildale

-Profession: Hyperbole Machinist

-Character description: Standing at an average height, for an elf, most humans tower over Naddie. Her statue was very un-statuesque, but her temper and foul mouth blended her in perfectly with the surrounding merchants of Morbourne. She wore grimy, dusty leathers and pulled her long hair and even longer ears back with bands she could always find around her wrists. A hazard for her type of work since she was always snagging her hair bands on gears.

-Hair color: Black

-Eye color: Bright blue

-Body type: shapely, curvy with athletic proportions (no she-Hulk though). lightly tanned skin

-Race (Human, Elf, or other...yeah anything goes in this Steampunk world, just keep in mind that Elves are the magic wielding race, tho half elves could have latent abilities as well) : Wood Elf, long pierced ears that are tied back out of her way while working

'Oh for...Corellon's sake!'

The newcomer, formerly dubbed the stranger, watched with interested eyes as he sat in the saddle of his steam mount. It was, for all intents and purposes, a horse, but they were scarce on this world. This world being one of man and machine, but mostly machine. However, with all the technological advances, the culture could not seem to move into a more sophisticated time. An interesting story, this 'Steampunk era', but the Newcomer was more interested in the female working on another mount in one of the merchant shacks.

Looking around the Newcomer caught the attention of a passerby. 'Hey.'

The passerby stopped, taking his dirty bowler hat off and scratching his head in what appeared to be a salutation. 'Hail and well met, stranger.'

He was a stranger again. Oh well, he thought. Pointing to his steam mount, he asked the bald man about the surrounding merchants. 'I need her looked at. Recommend someone?' His eye left the bald man's squinting face and fell on the non-to-softly cursing female again.

The bald passerby followed the stranger's gaze and nodded in that direction. 'Just Naddie.'

'Who? Her?'

'Ayup.'

'She's a machinist? But she's...'

'Ayup. Just Naddie.'

'Ok.' He mumbled. 'Naddie, then.'

'No.'

'No?'

'No. Her name is 'Just Naddie.'

Perplexed the Newcomer threw his leg off his steam mount and leaned on the neck of it. 'I don't understand.'

'She's 'Just Naddie.' The bald man replaced his bowler and nodded again. 'Good day to you, stranger.'

'Ok then.'

_____________

'Are you Naddie?'

She didn't even bother to look up. The steam mount she was working on was being a big bitch and she was already annoyed just waking up in the morning. With a sigh, she did reply after a few moments.

'No.'

The long pause came and a shuffling of feet. It always made her grin.

'I asked who would be the best person to take my steam mount to, I clearly remember hearing them say, 'Just Naddie.'

'That's right.'

'But you said you're not Naddie.'

'That is correct.' A gear pinched her finger and she let out a colorful expletive. 'Fuck me,' she murmured.

'...Uh.'

'I'm Just Naddie. Not Naddie.' Sliding out from beneath the mount, she threw a wench on her work bench and pointed up to the sign. 'It's 'Just Naddie'. You heard right and I reckon wrong.'

The stranger was a tall, male human with dusty, brown hair that was a little longer than the trendsetters in Morbourne and had the tiniest bit of a curl. It lay along the nape of his neck in sweaty dark strands and dusted his shoulders. He was wearing off-world leathers and his mount was a newer model. It stood stoic just outside the opened entrance of her merchant shack, dusted with red dirt.

'Well I...' He began again, but she cut him off with a shrug.

'Just read the sign.' Turning away from the man, she walked over to her work bench and picked up another tool, only this time she chanted just under her breath and hoped for the best. The air around her turned cold and the tool oddly sizzled and then froze in her hand. With a roll of her eyes, she put the tool back down as the man read the sign. The sign being a battered, greasy piece of wood with very clear wording that went something like this.

Yes I am Just Naddie.
Yes, you heard right.
Yes I am a hyperbole machinist.
Yes, these are elf ears.
No, I do not take credit.

Wiping her cold hand against her leather jacket that she wore over her very non-traditional elven outfit - dirty tank and rough leathers that hung at her hips. Her knee high, steel-toed boots were black but scuffed and scored. The only thing elven about her were her almond shaped eyes and long, pierced ears.

'I hope that covers the although inquisitive but still annoying questions?'

It probably didn't, but she didn't really care. This human was hardly any different than the idiotic and uneducated others that came in and she treated him as such. She hardly looked at him after her initial cursory glance. Just Naddie, exiled elf of the Nildale's who had an innate ability for hyperbole mechanics - the most chaotic of steam mechanics - was a rare thing in Mobourne. Where she lacked in grace, she made up for in street smarts and a foul mouth, although her elven magic skills were...temperamental, anyone choosing to learn the arts by themselves got what they deserved.

Or so they kept telling her.

Informal - usually a simple, natural tunic, pants, and some cool boots. I'd love to see him with some goggles, tool belt or some more little extras -- a tricked-out tinkerer! He always has a tinkered creature or companion with him. He doesn't necessarily need to be in his cottage.

-Tell us your tale (optional as always of course): The Tinkerer is a man who has let his name fade from view along with knowledge of his past. He now creates toys for children and companionable friends with surprising talents for the grown-ups. He made "Sir Wystro"'s companion in the poster, so anything goes with his little tinkered friends! Machined parts are his garden, and his tinkered creations are his prized companions. The Tinkerer never has a cross word, but if one of Morbourne's troubles finds him, his tinkered creations do the talking. =)

Echo and Ember were fraternal twins and as different as night and day. Echo was the egotistical bitchy type while Ember was the happy go lucky type. She loved her sister but sometimes her attitude got on her nerves as she knew she must get on her sisters nerves. When ever they docked she would head straight to the nearest bar and usual get so drunk she ended up in a fight and them leaving at once. She was definitely not one for dresses or the frilly girl stuff. She wore blacks, reds, greens and browns it usually hid all the grease and dirt. Ember and Echo were the proud owners of their own airship The Rabbit named after their stuffed rabbits usually found somewhere near or on them. They were notorious for taking runs that were impossible and very dangerous. Echo's theory was the more dangerous the exciting it would be for her. She kept her engine room in tip top shape and would let no one near it not even her sister it was her sanctuary.

-Tell us your tale (optional as always of course):

>

Ember loves to fly. She is the youngest captain of any airship, and is the Captain of her very OWN airship, her beloved Rabbit. She even paid a very talented pirate to paint a replica of her own stuffed rabbit, for which her ship is named, on the wing. >>

She flies in the company of her sister, Echo, who keeps the Rabbit in top running order. They were born to the same mother, and at the same time, but that’s about the only thing the two have in common. Where Echo’s hair is the strong black of the night sky, Ember’s is the soft, pale gold of the autumn sun, worn in a style that brushes the shoulders loosely or pulled back in a practical tail. Where Echo’s eyes pierce you with an icy blue, Ember’s eyes will awash you in a forest green as she shyly glances your way. Her lashes are a dark honey color, and she sports a nose and cheeks spattered with freckles. She has a ready smile, and always thinks the best of her fellow humans.>>

She looks much younger than her 26 years, and to see her in her Captain’s chair would raise doubts. But once she’s in the sky, there’s no doubt that she’s a master at her craft. The Rabbit soars like an eagle under her hands, and she has gained the respect of many pilots decades older than her. The missions that her sister chose to take on delighted her, as they consistently pushed the limits of her and her ship’s abilities.>>

Practical clothing is her preference; something that hides dirt and dust while being comfortable and easy to move in is her “typical” wear. She has a dress Captain’s uniform that looks quite smart, but one of her secrets is her penchant for sensual, feminine clothing in soft, “womanly” colors. Something she’d never confess under any torture, though her sister knows and merely rolls her eyes. >>

Ember is a soft-spoken young woman who is usually more at home in the cockpit than with her fellow humans. She has a tendency to giggle, and babble on a bit when she gets nervous or embarrassed. Her singing voice is lovely to listen to, but it is so soft it takes a bit of ear-straining to be able to appreciate it. She also loves to watch the stars wheel across the night sky, and is an amateur astronomer and even has her very own small telescope.>>

Character Name: Sarwyn LeCroix (Sar-win Le-Croy)
Profession: Apothecary
Character description: Sarwyn's dark red-brown wavy hair falls to the small of her back in an unkempt mess. Always kept partly pulled back, the tie (which varies on any particular day) always seems loose and jumbled in her mass of hair. Dark sky blue eyes reflect hate and tragedy. (see below for attire)
Hair color: Dark Red-brown with a splash of white (up to the artist how little or how much white), to the small of her back
Eye color: Semi-Dark sky blue
Body type: Curvy, small breasts, but she tends to make the most of them (i.e. low cut blouses with high/a lot of cleavage)
Race: Human
Rating: Anything goes!
Desktop size: 1440 x 900

Screenshots/Reference pics: Couldn't get it done in enough time :/ But I trust the artists here to make her wonderful!

Sarwyn has a mind to dress nicely on occasion, but while in Nightgloom, her apothecary, she hardly pays attention to such nonsense. Always clothed in dresses and skirts, Sarwyn prides herself in her poisons rather than her attire. Amulets, talismans and other trinkets surround her neck in a jungle of chains, ropes and twine. At her hips is a collection of items ranging from the normal, flasks, herbs, and pouches; to the macabre, skulls, teeth and eyes; to the downright strange ... which seem to be just a unknown collection of objects.

Tell us your tale (optional as always of course):

Evident by the white streaks in her hair, grief has long followed Sarwyn LeCroix. The tragedies of her past have shaped the woman into what she is now. No soul dare argues that fate has been cruel to her. Joy has long since fled from her, replaced only by hate. Hate for the world. Hate for those that have wronged her. Hate for life..

Through her pain and suffering, the woman somehow finds it in herself to continue living. Perhaps she finds comfort in her decades-long profession as an apothecary. Concocting poisons and potions of all kinds seems to calm her hatred, if only for a time. From all over the world, commons and nobles alike come to Sarwyn for her expertise in love potions, seduction oils, and her specialty: poisons. The alchemist has an unimaginable amount of recipes and books concerning these toxins, thus why she has been known in some circles as "The Blighter".

-Character Name: Countess Almira "Mira" Batchelor

-Profession: Spy, Gathers information - Mira will seduce or coerce anything to get information - political, upper class intrique, military, etc - which she then sells to the highest bidder.

-Character description: A very sexual creature - she practically screams "DO ME!" and often uses her wit and charm to negotiate her way into the bedroom. Think Marilyn Monroe and Mae West in one vivacious package. She's in her early 30s. Mira is very flirty, coy, and witty, but the very observant person will notice there's a steeliness to her, and a VERY observant person would notice the wistful look she occasionally gets when looking a young family, or older couples that are obviously still deeply in love. Underneath the powder and lace, Mira's romantic, and loves reading old romance novels when she has the opportunity. (see the example pic I included of her)

-Hair color: Blonde, of course!

-Eye color: Bright blue (up to the artist whether light or dark, mixed w/ green, etc the color req's is just that they be very saturated)

-Body type: Curvy wih a capital C!! Think Rita, Marilyn, Mae, Bette, all the Golden and Post-Golden Era Hollywood hotties!

-Race (Human, Elf, or other...yeah anything goes in this Steampunk world, just keep in mind that Elves are the magic wielding race, tho half elves could have latent abilities as well) : Human

-Rating (G, R, anything goes!) : Anything the artist feels comfortable with!

-Desktop size: 1280x1024

-Please include either screenshots or reference pics of your character, unless you want to leave it completely up to your fellow artist: The artist who gets me doesn't have to follow this to the T, but here's one interpretation of Mira I had in mind:

http://shutupsara.deviantart.com/art/Countess-Almira-Batchelor-151084748

-Feel free to add anything you thing might be helpful to the person portraying your character. General ideas for attire would be good, like whether your character prefers casual or formal look. When Mira's in public, she keeps up the noble appearance, very formal dress and manner. Behind closed doors, she prefers corsets or matching bra/panty sets with floor-length see through robes. When she's hosting a small dinner party, she'll wear one of her infamous robes to the table, which has become the talk of the town - you're nobody til Mira invites you to one of those dinners! Mira loves purple (like the color of this font) and white. She only wears the finest clothing, and has the best furnishings and servants that money can buy. She does like slumming, however, and will tone it down slightly if she goes down to the pub with her maids for a pint. By "toning it down" I mean she might wear normal, working-class clothing, but she *always* wears the strand of pearls she received from her mother when Mira got married.

-Tell us your tale (optional as always of course): Mira was basically auctioned off by her family to marry a man much older than her - she was 17, he was in his 50s. She learned very quickly that even though he was old, he was still extremely active in the bedroom, and delighted in bringing in others to teach her the techniques she uses as an adult. When Mira was 20, her husband informed her that as his heir, she was expected to continue his work - seducing others, and selling it to their clients. As he aged and was unable to get as much information (He was no Sean Connery) Mira picked up the slack and a few years before her husband's death was collecting all the information. Her husband died when she was 29, leaving her a title, a grand mansion in the upper city, and the list of clients. Mira had the choice of not working anymore - she had money enough to live comfortably in the mansion for the rest of her life - but she chose to continue working, and even expanded her clientele, gathering different kinds of information. See, she did kind of love her husband, not as a woman should love her hubby, more like an old family friend/mentor, so she continues to work as a way to show her respect for him. Mira has recently become interested in all those mechanical beastie-things she sees around the city, and has made it known that she's interested in acquiring a few as security/pets.

She has a sunny disposition, and is more 'cute' than 'sexy'. Her clothes should be well tailored, she is a seamstress after all, and as detailed as you are willing to make them. She wears trousers or skirts, depending on her mood. Her clothing is always clean except for maybe the hem of a long skirt.

-Character Name: Shelly-Jane
-Profession: Aeronaut
-Character description: Shelly, as she is most often known by, is a wild and spunky Captain of her own airship. She answers to no-one, but will hire out her services for a price. She is cheeky and mischevious, with a hot temper when angered.
-Hair color: Light golden brown, could almost pass as dark blonde. Her hair is long with a natural wave, which she can wear up or down, depending on her mood.
-Eye color: Green
-Body type: Slender but strong, she is no fairy. Her ears have only a slight point, short enough to not be seen with her hair down.
-Race (Human, Elf, or other...yeah anything goes in this Steampunk world, just keep in mind that Elves are the magic wielding race, tho half elves could have latent abilities as well) : Half Elf.
-Rating (G, R, anything goes!) : Anything goes!
-Desktop size: er...1280 by 800 I think.
-Please include either screenshots or reference pics of your character, unless you want to leave it completely up to your fellow artist: Up to you!
-Feel free to add anything you thing might be helpful to the person portraying your character. General ideas for attire would be good, like whether your character prefers casual or formal look. Shelly spends most of her time on or near her ship, so wears mostly her work clothes. She does tend to wear attire that has pirate influence, though she has not been known to be a pirate...
-Tell us your tale (optional as always of course): Born to the doomed romance between an Elven noble and a Human, Shelly was a misfit from the start. Shunned by the pure blood elves for her substandard magic and her human tendancies, and outcast by the humans for her Elven looks and grace, she spent much of her time alone. Despite both parties doubts about her, Shelly was in fact rather clever with her hands. But flying was her great love, so she built her own airship, the Wind Dancer, and Captained it herself.

While she would never be a true Elven Aeromancer, she defied those who said she'd never weild magic, and honed her magics to the best she possibly could. She is not capable of the great feats of magic of the pure bloods, instead using her latent magics upon her ship, infusing it into the very material of the blimp, keeping it airborne and steady even in the most violent of storms.

In refusing to take a surname, she does not acknowledge either races dominance in her heritage, feeling shunned by both Elves and Humans.
