The time has come....

Please post here suggestions for romantic ways for me to ask my girlfriend to marry me. We have discussed it and the answer is a forgone conclusion, but I want to make sure I do it like a pimp, so she shall never forget.

I have an idea or two, but I want to see what you guys come up with first.

Try to go with her favorite flowers over roses. Roses are so trite and overdone.

Do something outdoors in the Smokeys - nothing in the city will ever be as romantic.

SO not true. Romance is being on a balcony overlooking the city. Nothing prettier than the city at night with all the lights sparkling.

And there are less bugs.

As far as romantic asking and such goes... I wouldn't know. My ex wasn't romantic.

Gilae is right about the changing and growing that goes on. I was 18 when I met Mike and by 24 we seemed to have nothing in common. We waited 2 years before we got married though, I change slowly, I guess. On the other hand, Mike was 10 1/2 years older than me so he had already done his growing and changing. In fact, he was quite proud of not changing his habits over the years. I think in some ways that is more difficult than two younger people who can grow and change together.

However, we did not fight about money or finances at all. We kept seperate accounts and Mike took care of the bills because that was what he was good at. I asked how much he needed and paid him every month. No worries on my part and it was flexible, plus, we each knew exactly how much money was in our own account at all times without worrying if the other had just spent money on something that would cause your purchase to bounce. Back in the day, we were broke college students so being at that near zero cash line was common with just my own spending to worry about much less someone else's..

My boss at the novelty store I worked at thought it was hysterical that I paid my husband but it worked well for us.
