It is a person from my guild, gale of destruction. He/she did not make the sig though, I don't want her in trouble over it. She is probably quite unaware of it

Well, looking thru your guild's forum, I see total lack of copyright respect already. Stumbled on one that I'm pretty sure is Sabby's within the first two posts of the public forum. Few more down even found one of my own torn up. LoL What's sad is it's the very first 3d commish I got, so it's not like it was that great. Gotta love it when people have no qualms about tearing your work up to make something themselves, but won't be bothered by taking the time to learn how to legititmately make their own, or at least hire one of us to do it for them if they were feeling really froggy. *rolls eyes* Anywho, sorry for the additional derail but grah! *shakes fist*

Wow there really are some shitty looking rip offs. Maybe could try sending them a PM and asking if they know the sigs are made with ripped off art? Might be a chance that they just don't know. The pastelly cleric is definately Sabby's btw

If people are gonna rip off other peoples work... They need to at least know what the fuck they are doing. The one they did of that cleric, looks like total ass. It makes *MY* work look like shit. I am too tired to chase down every person who lacks the respect of asking before stealing, but lord I wish they'd at least make the rip off look quality, that way when people recognize it, it doesn't look bad on me.

theyre all hosted by the same photobucket account, so it seems whoever is hosting them would be the one making them ( duh) and distributing them through the guild. Of course its passworded though

photobucket is actually very quick to respond, but if I'm not mistaken they want to know specifically which images are copyright and they want them reported by the one who owns the image. Might be a little difficult if her albums are private? Might be worth dropping them a note tho.

Actually that worked for me when I had some idiot using one of my stolen pieces. I got public access to their forum, I'm going to pm the stupid bitch who's using the blue ellis and tell her to take it down and email photobucket too.

Alot of the people using the sigs have no idea the pics are copyright, and whoever is making them either doesn't care or is ignorant. Very few in the guild are artistic as far as I am aware, and Im guessing nearly all the guild sigs are made by the same person, though I don't know who yet.
I'm gonna go post on forum and try get this sorted out.

*hugs* Its not your fault Jet! Its not the fault of those using them either.. they dont know their artwork is stolen.. but Im sure the person who made them does, since most of those sites that that art was on originally has some kind of copyright warnings and all that.
She/he will just continue to use other people's artwork if shes not stopped, so its a good thing..and the people who are using the stolen work will have to get something original.. maybe from you! hehe

Ok, I made a post on the forum. This is what I wrote. I know it may not seem harsh enough to those whose work has been stolen, but please also remember that I am caught in the middle here and have friends on both sides.
Also, if those of you who recognise work there, please tell me the names and I will PM them about it. It will probably better coming from someone they know than if some stranger burns them down for something they are quite likely unaware of >.<
In pursuit of improving my own art, I am a member of a couple of online art communities.
Upon looking at the deviantart site of one of the people I know there, I saw the original pic that a sig here is using. I mentioned this to her in passing and well, she is rather miffed that her work has been used without her permission. I have now opened a can of worms at that site and some of the others have recognised their work in peoples sigs here.
I did not mean to get anyone in trouble! But there are a few sigs here that are breaking copyright and the owner is now pissed. I am aware that it is one or two people who make many of the sigs for guildies, but I do not know who as I have never asked because I make my own sigs.
Please, please, if you see a picture you like and want it as a sig, make sure it is not copyright. If it is, then just send the artist a message, many are ok with their work being used so long as it is tasteful and permission is given. Most will only ask that you provide a link back to their site in case anyone else wants work by them.
Some works however, are commissions. This is where someone has paid the artist to make something specifically for them and it will be unique to them and they will own the copyright as they paid to have it made.
I will happily make replacements for those that are infringed, I can do the 3D art, or I can freehand draw or make screenshot manipulations. I do not charge guildies for the latter two as they only cost me time, and the 3D art, I only ask that you help me with the costs of buying the items needed to make it if you require something I don't already have. This would likely never go above $30 and I'd do a magelo background and sig. If I already have the stuff needed to make your char, I don't charge.
Really, I did not expect it to blow up as it did, I did not mean to cause trouble. I am stuck in the middle of this

A lot of people just have no clue that it's not ok to just grab whatever you like on the internet and chop it up and use it anyway you like. Being able to educate is always a good thing. My art was not involved here, but honestly I would want it removed as well if it were butchered the way these have been. Not only are they stealing, but they have butchered the hell out of what was some really nice images, and if thats someone's first impression of what the original artist can do, that's not good.
Since several folks here take comissions, you could point them to their DA pages, and I know several also post on the EQ and EQ2 boards. They could always comission something original and all their own. i'm sure they would also be much happier with the finished result

yep yep.. a custom piece should be alot better than someone else's custom piece modified to look kinda like their's
