Saturday: GF's car died
Sunday: GF got really sick after dinner
Monday: discover my WOW accounts were hacked, including 4 deletions (3x80s), one transfer to another server, tens of thousands of gold gone, hundreds of items, stacks of mats, etc gone
Monday: Mom's cell phone almost died

I'm done with January.

You should be able to contact wow and petetition to get most of your stuff back.. then get one of their nifty account protector thingers, its worth it. Ive got one.

That happened to my friend just two or three weeks ago, Mileron. We still don't know how they got the password; probably by logging in while some webpage with malicious code was open. Cleaned out all his characters, all 6 tabs of our guild bank, sold all his vendorable gear, spent all his emblems and honor points on all 3 of his 80s, and transferred one to another server. It took about a week, but we got everything back (and they even messed up somehow and gave us double a few of the tabs in the guild bank - shh!)

He got the mobile authenticator and I got the keychain one. It sucks that it will be difficult to borrow each other's characters now, but oh well... not interested in getting hacked.

Just call them or petition or both and you'll get everything back.

Yep, this happened to me too, but instead of additional tabs in the guild bank, I was given (accidentally or intentionally I'll never know) a Goldshire Gift Voucher was in my mail. The Gift Voucher was redeemable for one the classic Collector's Edition pets. I nabbed me a Diablo :D

Oh and I got additional 200-300g. I still think the Diablo is better.

The fucked up thing is, I JUST ordered it last week. Haven't gotten it yet.

I did email them, because by the time I got home, the accounts had been suspended and I couldn't log in for a GM Petition.

I think it might have been brute-forced. All of my PCs are clean; the main gaming PC isn't used for anything except WoW and DAO, and I use NoScript, Adblock, and such for other surfing on my laptop.

The additional weird thing is, this happened very early this morning, and they also tried to take control of the account by requesting new passwords and such.

They didn't bother to change my friend's password... they just attached an Authenticator to the account and stopped him from logging on. He changed the password at the Blizzard website, and the "hackers" changed it back to something else. That is the main reason I got the Authenticator for myself. I had to sit there and watch them rape our guild bank, while on the phone telling him "yes... they just took all of our Darkmoon cards... there goes your lichbloom..." etc. Not fun.

EQ also had a bad year or three with accounts getting hacked iirc.

Are accounts being hacked in WoW that common?

Also had my sister take her computer in for something to be done for it, and they put a keylogger on her computer, managing to hack into each account she had within a day of her logging into them (even if it was weeks apart).

They then hacked into her guild's bank and cleaned out their inventory as well, one of the largest alliance raid guilds on her server. But she petitioned it and got her stuff back, and most of the guild's, then got the account authenticator and all is now well.

I had my account hacked when I stupidly clicked on an email in my box from Blizzard, only it wasnt from Blizzard. Luckily I caught it as they were in the process of cleaning out my account and was able to change my pass and everything and stopped before I lost more than two and a half characters. I also petitioned and got my stuff back and ordered an authenticator.

I rarely ever hear about EQ accounts being hacked. Something about WoW ..maybe its because its more popular than EQ?

So my son comes barging in my room this morning 5 minutes before the alarm goes off for me to wake up..yelling "Mommy.. I lost a tooth! I lost another tooth!".. Oy. LOL He just turned 10. Guess it's that time to lose a few more of his baby teeth. :( He' growing up. Make it stop!!! Please? I want to keep him little!!
