Say Anything.
'Say Anything' is a John Cusak/Cameron Crowe 1989 teen flick. ' A noble underachiever and a beautiful valedictorian fall in love the summer before she goes off to college.' This is actually not what this thread is about, but the message is the same.
Actually no it isn't, I just like imdb.com and the title sounded interesting. /snort
This is not necessarily a vent thread - far from it. This is about saying anything - weather, the bird outside your work window, the fundamental differences between Mormons and catholics, how Law and Order Criminal Intent doesn't get the props it deserves, that I always forget whether it's 'it's' or 'its', that my daughter has a beautiful smile and the first guy that breaks her heart - I'm breaking his knees...it's about anything.
So, say anything.
That being said, too many people, too many idiots, too many illegals driving around poorly and without insurance. Its darned scary and the traffic sucks..
The real problem is Phx is one of (if not the) fastest growing cities so they are expanding faster than they can keep up with infrastructure. Driving in Chicago was worse anyway.
My comment about Flag was simply about the 18 year old rich kids that come to school here, have never seen snow, and don't treat it with caution. When it snows here it is very annoying to be on the roads because people dont' know how to handle it, and they don't drive safe until they learn how to handle it. They speed around in their 4wd's and think they can stop on a dime. I literally have to weaver around these people as they are all stuck on hills - back when I was driving my little ford escort.
Its not that theyre the only ones driving poorly, but for the most part they dont carry insurance.. and if you do get in an accident with them.. youre footing the bill and theyre not in trouble for it.
Had a guy once fall asleep in the car and he drove full speed into the back of my mother's car, which was stopped at a light behind other cars. Totalled her vehicle, gave her a concussion, and rammed her car into the one in front of her. Shes lucky she wasnt dead. The guy didnt have insurance, The car was apparently borrowed or something and his license was suspended. Yet since he didnt have insurance or a job he wasnt held liable for anything, because he coudlnt have put up any money. Thats crap.
nother time a guy hit us in the side.. also no insurance.. messed up our car, he didnt get a ticket or anything.
Woman ran a red once while david was heading home, he saw her car and tried to swerve out of the way so he wouldnt hit the cab of the car, ended up driving over her hood, so he wouldnt hurt the kids she had in the back seat. One of the multiple witnesses that the police questioned said he might have sped up when going through the intersection ( mind you the light was green, not yellow, so he was given half fault for that one. He coudlnt work for a month after with the whiplash he got. and had to do therapy for a year and his back still hurts, 14 years later.
ITs just scary, thats why I dont drive.. and why i was never interested in driving when we lived there.
Driving in Chicago was worse anyway.
Driving in Chicago is fucking terrifying. If you leave one inch between you and the car in front of you, somebody is going to squeeze in there. So everybody is driving like 50 mph with 2 cm separating them from a car accident.
Phoenix has the best road layout ever.. Everything is so easy.
I disagree strongly. Ive seen way better, like Texas.
I think its got something to do with being in a fairly flat area.. places like San Francisco, anywhere with steep hills or mountains..San Jose are just crazy.. loopy roads and scary intersections and freeways everywhere. I dont get why they might name two streets with the same name within a mile of each other..
I hate Airports. I hate everything about the fuckers. I especially hate the Austin Airport. I hate having to take my shoes off and walk through two sets of security lines and then have a guard holding a M16 wave a wand over my body...It makes me feel guilty almost and I get anxiety attacks walking though the security lines....like, what would happen if something in my bag set off a red flag and they rushed me etc....when i'd never have such in my bag to begin with...
My last flight to Phoenix I had - The security line at Austin was held up for almost 45 minutes because they had to send in these dudes in gas masks and white suits to check this womans bag because it had some substance in a container inside it that turned out to be fucking nail remover and nothing else....The woman threw a fucking fit and was cussing them out hardcore....I almost missed my goddamn flight due to it...thank god I was 2 hours early =x
Phoenix skyharbor airport however is quite nice and easy as hell to navigate in.
Dallas airport sucks also....And Pharren, I heard that Chicago O'hare is pretty bad.
Not as slack as Hamburg in Germany though...I was first off the plane and had my passport out ready to show, stood at the yellow line waiting. But there was no dude in the box, no-one at all. People behind me walked past me like this was normal, so I followed. No checks, nothing. I mean, its European Union and all that but every other country I've been to, I still had to show my passport, EU or not lol.
Biggest airport I've been to is Amsterdam...its huge. Been to Glasgow before the attempted bomb, but the tightened up security at Edinburgh too. Take your shoes off and all that jazz.
Any of you been pulled out of the security line ups and gone through the full body X-ray one? Had to take off my shoes, empty every single item from my pockets, then stand with my hands on these two circles on the wall at a 45 degree angle to the glass. And then you have to do the same with your butt facing the glass! This was at Heathrow, dunno if they started implementing it elsewhere yet.
Baltimore is nice, looks like a mall and is just a long walk, no zigzagging.
Memphis (I think I've been to Memphis) is ungodly big, too.
Minneapolis is beautiful - has some awesome indoor trains.
San Fransico - biggest god damn airport I have EVER been in. We gave ourselves 2 1/2 hrs to get from Modesto to San Fran Airport and made it to our flight with 9 mins to spare. Blergh.
I've been to one in South Carolina - itty bitty, near the coast.
Seattle - I swear they've remodeled that thing like 4 times in the past 20 years. However, it is very cool. They have a floor to ceiling glass wall in the food court so you can sit and watch the planes come and go.
Anchorage/Fairbanks - Alaska is as big as the continental United States, but their airports are god damn small.
Pittsburgh - again, another ridiculously large airport. So big my brother forgot where he parked and it took us like 45 mins to get to the van =/
Honolulu - haven't been in that airport since 2001. All I remember is that it was one story, I think.
Albuquerque - I slept in the main lobby because my flight got delayed...12 fucking hours. I swear I think I saw Paula Abdul in the gift shop and their itty bitty diner had awesome strawberry pancakes. Granted that was 1993.
Kansas City - I'm pretty sure I was drunk when we landed.
Denver - Drunk again. Some middle aged man hit on me the entire flight. Not cool.
Wow, I've flown a lot.
Atlanta's airport is ridiculously huge
Isn't that the one with a subway in it? And I don't mean the restaurant. I only flew in there once, so maybe I'm thinking of somewhere else (Detroit?).
Pensacola FL - Small and not very busy.
New Bern NC - omg is a one room building with ONE terminal and you walk out on the runway to get on the matchbox with wings. LOL Security was easy.. even when I had my toy poodle in her carry on bag..I had no fuss or anything. Very friendly and helpful.
Charlotte NC - Fairly large, and pain in the ass.
Atlanta - NEVER fucking again.
Philidelphia - largest airport I've ever been at (I think? lol). I think it was at this airport you had to take buses all the way to other terminals.
Bangor ME - haha its barely an airport.. bigger then the one in New Bern, but same deal.. small lines, easy/fast security check point and only 2 terminals. Can't get lost at all!
Easiest, best airport ever... Naval Station Rota Spain!
Edit - Forgot 2 aiports...
DFW and San Antonio.... these were the scariest airports Ive ever been in. It was before 9-11 and all the new flying security checks... it was DFW I left from to go to basic training at Lackland AFB. That there killed my nerves. Then sitting at the airport in San Antonio waiting for a Training Instructor to show up in a bus. Oh yeah.. I remember those damn clicking coming from his shoes as he walked down the hall to the room the 50 of us were sitting in. All of us stopped talking instantly. LOL
