Say Anything.

'Say Anything' is a John Cusak/Cameron Crowe 1989 teen flick. ' A noble underachiever and a beautiful valedictorian fall in love the summer before she goes off to college.' This is actually not what this thread is about, but the message is the same.

Actually no it isn't, I just like imdb.com and the title sounded interesting. /snort

This is not necessarily a vent thread - far from it. This is about saying anything - weather, the bird outside your work window, the fundamental differences between Mormons and catholics, how Law and Order Criminal Intent doesn't get the props it deserves, that I always forget whether it's 'it's' or 'its', that my daughter has a beautiful smile and the first guy that breaks her heart - I'm breaking his knees...it's about anything.

So, say anything.

It's 8:20pm.

And I'm almost done packing for my trip to Texas.

Last minute things:
Consolidation. Still using the laptop so I can't quite bag it up just yet, and I need to gather my dressylike clothes for Church.

I'm glad I decided not to dwell on everything sucking so badly this week.
About the only thing that was extra messed up was the allergic reaction to whatever that I had on Thursday that is still making it a bit difficult for me to swallow.

But I have all the pills I'll need for my trip, and entertainment for the flights, and clothes and all.

This'll be fun!

been there, done that!!! it so sux when I realize that I am now wide awake - and could still be sleeping. and can't.

I have decided to be brave. Or it could just be that I'm in some stupid mode.... won't know til later. I have this 2 year old whirling dervish that they keep telling me is mine so I have to keep him. So I've decided to take him to the movies. I figure Ratitoulle (sp??) would be safe enough, especially the first showing of the day. And I figure the theater down the road the does $2.25 matinees is even better - if I have to leave I ain't out that much moola!!! I did this with the older two at roughly this age and it went pretty well. Well, except that I missed the end of Lilo and Stitch. and I mean I missed the last 5 freaking minutes!!!!

Ack!!! So I'll let you know if it was bravery or stupidity this afternoon!!!

Ok I work for a paramedical company that does life insurance exams. I have independent contractors that are mobile and do specimen draws. In some cities though we refer people to clinics and they fill out the paperwork and do the specimen draws and bill us accordingly.

I send this one woman to get an ekg at a clinic in Fairbanks. The clinic neglects to fax us the completed paperwork so we can make sure everything was done properly. They tell us that they need patient authorization to release the ekg to us - even though WE sent HER to THEM. So we get the applicant to sign and fax in the release form. Next they tell us - oh because she didn't sign it in front of them, she has to get it notarized.

....

But they didn't tell us before we bugged this woman to sign the paper and find a fax to fax it back to us. I call. They say she needs to still come in. I take a deep breath and hang up. So we have another examiner come in to do the ekg, further infuriating the applicant. EKG gets done and we close the case out.

Today I received the bill from the clinic...with a copy of the ekg.

Help me, Jesus, before I burn that motherfucking clinic down.

14 hours of family (okay 7, taking out sleepytime) and just about 3 hours in work now have completely obliterated 9 days of vacation's restfulness.

My manager is resigning.
One of my departmental coworkers has two of the others so mad at her that there was nearly yelling just a few minutes ago.
The "supervisor" for the other half of my department - who had posted for the manager position for whom the manager is now resigning - is in the office with our office director yelling about how he doesn't want to get screwed by posting again for the position and not getting hired for the third time. (Cause he'd suck, natch)
I've had three people at my desk bitching about problems that they emailed me about at the beginning of LAST WEEK, for which they got an autoresponder that said "I"m on vacation, fuckers, talk to someone who cares or can help" (well it was more polite) and instead of going to someone that could help they put it off
And a conference call was scheduled - and cancelled because of my being on vacation and their "absolute need" to have the customer talk to me even though, out of the last 11 calls they've made, i've talked to them twice - three times so far to deal with a small customer - though size doesn't matter, a customer is a customer (or so some companies would have you think) - who wants support on a piece of software that hasn't been supported in over 9 years, but the guy who used to unofficially support it died in December. So wtf are we supposed to do?

So now I have my first migraine in over a month.

I was at the gym and noticed a lot of people were talking quietly in small groups here and there. One of them finally came up to me and asked me if I'd heard about a half-Asian guy who was a regular. Apparently he'd just shot himself in the head with a Glock .40 in front of his girlfriend. The guy who approached me thought I knew him. I guess he got that impression from all the time we've spent talking between sets.

...

I've never spoken a single word to the guy who shot himself. About the only thing I can think of is that some people assume all Asians have some sort of intrinsic bond to each other. I guess I can't really fault that mentality in the non-Asians, since I actually have had multiple Asian men and women approach me at the gym to ask... get this... "Are you Asian?"

I usually respond to those sorts of questions with, "I'm Spanish." Not a lie (common mix in Flips), but I leave it at that and let them sit there with confused looks on their faces.

I did more reading in the past ten days when I was in Texas than I have in the last two months.

HP7: Deathly Hallows. Very very very good. Better, I think, than Goblet of Fire and Order of the Phoenix. I misted, teared up, and cried.

Stray by Rachel Vincent. Story about werecats, described as large black panthers. Faythe, the main character, is a free daughter of one of the Alphas of several Prides of werecats in America.

Storm Front by Jim Butcher. Book 1 of the Dresden Files. Story about a wizard named Harry Dresden who does private investigations. This one starts with a double murder and a missing husband.

One for the Money by Janet Evanovich. Book 1 of the Stephanie Plum series. Story about a woman who in desperate need of a job gets a job with her uncle who is a bail bondsman. She ends up becoming a "bounty hunter" of sorts, catching people who posted bail but skipped their trials/court dates.

Mistral's Kiss by Laurell K. Hamilton. Book 5? in the Merry Gentry series. It was nice to have the plot moved along.

Bite Me If You Can by Lynsay Sands. Book 5? in the Argenau series. Rather good. It's about vampires with an alternate origin. This is the tale of Leigh who becomes a vampire after being attacked by one and forced to turn.

Anyway, the reading was very good for me, since I haven't done it enough recently.

Hmm, we don't have a rants thread/forum.

As I stated earlier in this thread, my department's manager up and resigned with no notice. His prerogative, of course.

His boss, our director, who is based out of northeast Texas, sent this email to the other half of the Support Deparment (non-tech):
As each of you are aware, Dick has accepted another position and his last day with us will be this Friday. We plan to conduct a search for a manager replacement but have expectations that this search will take a few weeks. During this transition time, I have asked and Bob has agreed to perform the function of onsite lead supervising the content team.

Bob will be responsible for managing the daily schedules for the content team as well as maintaining his lead responsibilities. He will be the team member you will send all escalation calls through. He will be working with each of you to establish the upcoming schedule updates. If you have planned PTO or unplanned needs should arise, you need to let Bob know as well as myself.

During this time, I will be the manager signing your timecards and request that you provide all updates to the timecard on a daily basis.

At the same time as we will be conducting the manager search, we will also be reviewing candidates for the open support position with plans to have that position filled by October 1. We are having a very good support year and expect this to continue. You have done a good job maintaining the goals that Thomson’s clients expect and we “THANK YOU” very much for doing so.

You will be reporting to me during this time but Bob will be managing the day to day operational aspects of both scheduling and resolving calls. All other issues should be directed to me. I am available at 972-xxx-xxxx or 469-xxx-xxxx or [email protected]. If you call 972 first and do not get an answer, please either call the 469 number or email me.

Shortly thereafter, she sent this to my half:
As each of you are aware, Friday is Dick's last day. We will begin recruiting for his replacement shortly. Until further information comes out, you will be reporting directly to me. Any issue you would have brought up to Dick needs to be escalated to myself. All requests for PTO need to be sent to me and I will be signing your timesheets. You need to update your timesheet on a daily basis. You will need to have submitted your timesheet to me by end of business on the Friday that it is due.

You can reach me at 972-xxx-xxxx or 469-xxx-xxxx or [email protected]. If you call 972 first and do not get an answer, please either call the 469 number or email me.

I'm not sure what to think of this. Either she couldn't be bothered to be as glowingly praiseful of us, or she figured since we're adults and can police ourselves she doesn't need to remind the Kindergarten of what they need to do. (Long story.)
Either way, it's clear she's completely unprepared for the deluge of emails she'll receive as requested by this line:
Any issue you would have brought up to Dick needs to be escalated to myself.

Already, since Wednesday, I have gotten carbon copies of over 14 emails that need programming attention - which is something our actual manager gets copies of. Also, five emails, again cc'ed to me, for PTO requests have been sent. I really don't think she's ready to be our "manager" for this duration.

I do know, however, that she's not going to be worth spit if we need something important.

Grrrrrrr.
