Say Anything.
'Say Anything' is a John Cusak/Cameron Crowe 1989 teen flick. ' A noble underachiever and a beautiful valedictorian fall in love the summer before she goes off to college.' This is actually not what this thread is about, but the message is the same.
Actually no it isn't, I just like imdb.com and the title sounded interesting. /snort
This is not necessarily a vent thread - far from it. This is about saying anything - weather, the bird outside your work window, the fundamental differences between Mormons and catholics, how Law and Order Criminal Intent doesn't get the props it deserves, that I always forget whether it's 'it's' or 'its', that my daughter has a beautiful smile and the first guy that breaks her heart - I'm breaking his knees...it's about anything.
So, say anything.
Hubby started his new job. He's on days working from 7am to 3pm this week. He has to go through some training before they put him on his normal schedule working nights 7pm-7am. I can't wait for that. Since we have 1 vehicle, and we live too close to the kids schools they cant ride a bus.. so that means I have to get up take hubby to work, drive home, goof off for a while, then take the kids to school. In the afternoon I have to go wait in this long as line at the elementary school for car riders to pick up my son, then go pick up my daughter, then go pick up hubby. This is really a pain in the ass. LOL
Oh speaking of my daughter, this school we got her into is frickin awesome. Its not a typical high school. Its Collegiate High School where the kids are dual enrolled in college and take college classes.
"The early college education program provides a unique course of study which gives the participating student an opportunity to simultaneously earn high school credits and transferable college-level credits during the traditional 9th-12th grade years. By the fifth anniversary of their first day on our campus, each student will have earned a high school diploma and either an associate degree or up to 60 credit hours toward a baccalaureate degree."
And since the school in an optional/application only school..there's only like 270 students 9-12th grade. The regular high school here.... there's 3500 students. Ouch. LOL

I went to a school similar to this for 8th and 9th grade (~300 students) before my parents pulled me out and put me in public school (~3000 students) and the difference was like night and day. Maybe it's not for everyone, but if anyone's kids had an opportunity to go to a small school like that, and wanted to go, I would strongly advise working to make it happen if at all possible. The public school system just isn't geared towards education.
Being able to get one-on-one instruction, tailored to you, is worlds apart from being shoved into a crowded classroom where if the teacher's method doesn't work for you, you're shit out of luck. What if you're not an auditory learner (or whatever they call it) and all your teacher does is give lectures? When there's 20 kids in your class instead of 40, the teacher can actually spend time teaching, instead of spend time on crowd control. Shit, we used to hang out with our teachers during lunchtime. In the "public" school most of the teachers would hide in a closet if students came into their classroom during lunch.
I did actually have a really cool photography teacher in public school that we would hang out with, but he was a pothead.

Aren't they all? lol
The school I went to was as well, actually, but it was a "magnet school" where you had to apply and audition and they only accepted a limited number of students
Ah ok, and yeah this school is like that. Only so many new students allowed, fill out the application, and they did an interview with my daughter a couple weeks ago.

Yeah. that's why I'm loving this school. Classes are on a block schedule so the kids only have 3 or 4 classes a day depending on the weekday and the classes are 80 minutes long giving the teacher plenty of time to teach and give more one-on-one interaction. There are so many resources for the students to help them succeed. The teachers are available 45 min before school and 45 min after school for help if students need it. There's also Texas A&M students who also come in to tutor and help the kids. All students have access to the college and its resources (library, student center, etc).
I'm so glad we found this school. I was worried I'd have to send Shelby to some massive high school and being a new kid there, she ends up overwhelmed and over looked by teachers if her grades dropped, getting involved with the wrong crowd, etc.
Actually I have a mini goal of under 200 by my birthday on 3/25, which is 9 pounds from now. I think I can do it...
I've been drinking so much water I think I'm part sponge now... but I really can't believe what a positive effect it had on both my complexion and my monthly cramps! I honestly never really believed people when they said it would help, but I believe it now :woot
Exercise used to be a chore, but now I'm loving it and can't wait to get to the gym to sweat. LOL! I am loving the elliptical, and am doing some core-building exercises along with some weight training. I skipped yesterday due to having 293847239 things to do, and felt SO guilty!
My mom has ended up back in the hospital after a couple of blackouts and bad falls last week (while I was on Heritage Tour with my daughter, of course!) and she'll be there and then in a rehab center to try to strengthen her up for her impending transplant. The doctor has said that if she doesn't get stronger that a half a liver won't work, and that we'll have to wait for a whole liver. But I'm going to keep plugging away at the weight and try to get to the point where I *can* donate if they allow it. Both her doctor and mine have said recently that they can't see any reason why I shouldn't be able to donate now, so I've been nagging the transplant team, and will continue to nag them. Politely, of course ;)

I'm about to take my first shit since thursday. I'm scared. pray for me. If I don't make it, tell my family I love them.
