Say Anything.

'Say Anything' is a John Cusak/Cameron Crowe 1989 teen flick. ' A noble underachiever and a beautiful valedictorian fall in love the summer before she goes off to college.' This is actually not what this thread is about, but the message is the same.

Actually no it isn't, I just like imdb.com and the title sounded interesting. /snort

This is not necessarily a vent thread - far from it. This is about saying anything - weather, the bird outside your work window, the fundamental differences between Mormons and catholics, how Law and Order Criminal Intent doesn't get the props it deserves, that I always forget whether it's 'it's' or 'its', that my daughter has a beautiful smile and the first guy that breaks her heart - I'm breaking his knees...it's about anything.

So, say anything.

It's really starting to wear on me. Her and 3 of our mutual friends are constantly updating Facebook HELP US FIND GUS PLEASE WE MUST FIND HIM and their contagious sense of urgency is threatening to give me an anxiety attack by remote. I feel really bad for her because she really does love him so much and spends probably half of her free time doing things with him; obedience school, "puppy agility" classes, teaching him tricks, taking him for walks, blah blah blah it's heartbreaking.

They hung over 100 (!!!) of these posters yesterday, but most have been taken down because of Durham law where you can't hang anything from stop signs... so they're going back out tonight, posting more posters and organizing search parties and shit. I wouldn't be surprised to learn she'd called the FBI.

The asymmetry of the (five *) REWARD OFFERED (four *) is bugging me, too.

I understand how she feels. When hubby and I moved back to Texas, I had a black toy poodle who ran away. :( She had gotten out of the kennel at hubbys grandparents ranch. I looked for her for months. I contacted everyone including dog groomers for almost a year. I even went as far as to contact an animal psychic which ended up giving me a lead on a field and a house. Never did find her though. I have a feeling someone found her and kept her, ignoring my newspaper ad and flyers. Seriously, in a small country town with a population of 1,800 people that has one grocery store, a couple gas stations, one feed store... how the hell can someone not see this ad and be like 'Oh I found that dog'?

Have her go to shelters every day. Simply calling them doesn't work. You have to physically go there and look because I've known some shelters that are just asstastic when it comes to knowing what they have in the kennels. She can also contact any rescue organizations, the ones that have no kennel but all the animals are fostered. They have connections and can usually pass the word on to other rescue groups in the state. Also check with veterinary clinics to see if the dog was brought in (they will let you post flyers as well). She can post on Petfinder.com (theres a classified section for lost pets) as well as Craigslist. She can put something in the newspaper. Most will let you post a simple lost animal ad for free, but I say pay to have the dogs picture in it for more attention. She could go knocking on doors in the area the dog was last seen. That way if someone found the dog, and is trying to be slick and not to the right thing and return the dog, hearing her voice might make the dog bark and she'll recognize it.

I hope she finds him soon!

Losing a pet dog or cat sucks and it can be heartbreaking.

I remember our dog got loose once and we drove around town looking for it. I was in a mess and so worried lol

Later that night, I heard something scratching on our door and he had come home.

Was weird

Pharren, is there anyway someone could have stolen that dog out of her backyard or whatever? I mean, was it easy for the dog to escape? Was a gate left open or something maybe? Or did the dog perhaps jump over the fence or dig its way under the fence?
pharren 15 years ago
I don't know. The dog was being watched by her ex-husband, and his girlfriend, who is the one responsible for taking off the dog's collar "because it was too noisy". Maybe she let him out on purpose. Maybe she took him for a ride and dumped him somewhere. Anything is possible. He wouldn't have done anything to harm the dog, because he is a huge animal lover and he and my sister get along better now than they did when they were married. The girlfriend, on the other hand... who knows!

And if I ever find out that either one of them did it on purpose, you probably wont see me around for 25+ years.

Its weird how a dog just up and vanishes. Dogs are smart animals. Very smart. They usually always find their way back home.

I know one story where someone dumped their dog out on purpose about 10 miles outside of town and the dog found its way back home.

Im guessing someone either stole it, or there is a lot more to the story than someone is giving you.

Well, my stupid sister was so upset over the whole thing that she's been spending the night at her friend's house rather than be home alone (or have her stupid friend stay at her place??? duh), so maybe the dog came back already. Or maybe he got hit by a car or something. Or maybe he's like the dog from that one Chevy Chase movie, where he gets out of the car and just goes tearing off into the woods, and like 6 months later he runs past the house and back into the woods again.

Any good news Pharren? Find out anything new?

She's been out all day posting flyers and searching neighborhoods, so I haven't heard much. Somebody called her and said they thought they saw him near whatever and whatever, and then called back to say it was definitely him, but they couldn't catch him. It might just be somebody fucking with her head, but... it's Durham. It's probably legit. People are all country-like and friendly around there. One of her friends posted that they drove in circles around the area for 2 hours but didn't see him.

She just called screaming so loudly that I sincerely believe I have suffered a permanent loss of hearing. The lady that had called earlier, after calling back the 2nd time, took a leash and some dog food and went back out to look for him. A complete stranger. Somebody else called, and said they saw him near a CVS, so after looking around there and talking to people "I just saw him 10 minutes ago", she finally found him. And then two more people called her and said they saw him near CVS. It's crazy how nice people are up there.

My parents are attributing the whole thing to prayer. Because God gives a fuck about your stupid dog. Meanwhile millions of people are starving to death or suffering from any other number of horrors on a daily basis; I guess they didn't have enough people praying for them. WTF.

Our father is still dying, but who cares? At least the dog is safe. That's not sarcasm, either. The dog is really cool (and apparently the recipient of more prayers).

Lessa, that's exactly my thought as well, when Derek was salivating about moving down there. Ugh, I can NOT imagine not having fall, or spring... or even winter (tho I'd be more okay with that, lol)

I like nature. I like Geocaching. I like Geocaching where nature is involved. I refuse to put my health at risk when you place a geocache at a known hornets nest. Fucker.
