Combined Threads - Formerly Officially A BOY!! + Water Broke!

I'm sure Mike's going to realllly appreciate this. So he and I are officially trying for our kiddo #2. We had unprotected sex last night, which marks the only other time we've EVER had unprotected sex. We grew up freaking out about unplanned pregnancies so we feel good about being able to plan our two. Don't get me wrong, surprises are good too - but I kinda don't like being surprised hehe. Especially since I'm diabetic so I have to come off a lot of medication. So I'm checking my blood pressure everyday and sugar. Anyway - if it's anything like Catherine, I'll be pregnant by next week O_o

Cross your fingers!

David is 1 month old today =D I'll take some pictures in a few and post, but I've discovered he has already grown out of one of his newborn onesies. /cry My nipples are about to fall off, but it looks like the breast feeding is doing him gud, he's chunkin up and looking handsome! His dark brown hair seems to be developing some blond highlights like his dad but his eyes haven't changed color yet - they're definitely not brown, at least not yet so we're hoping he gets his father's beautiful hazel green eyes. My boy's gonna be SO handsome. Catherine's breaking my heart too - I was brushing her hair this morning before she left for the school bus and her hair has gotten so thick and curly. My kids are bootiful!

Yeah for mixed babies!!! =D

LOL - because that worked so well with James?

Aww look how big he's getting already!! He's a dollface Roz. As to breastfeeding...I call it Year of Servitude #2. (#1 being the pregnancy period) It'll go fast though. The hard part for me was bringing the breast pump to work and everyone knowing where I was going when I took off for 20 minutes. I'm so crude irl that you'd think that I wouldn't be embarassed by it, but I was. When I was at home though I had him sleeping in a cosleeper so when he was hungry I just picked him up and attached him and went back to sleep. I know they say that it's dangerous to let the baby sleep with you but frankly even now I wake up no matter what time of the night it is if he so much as sighs. There's no possibility of me not noticing that I'm sleeping on top of him. I wish he'd still lay close to me and sleep with me now...kid hardly ever stays still. They do grow up too fast.

Something interesting I just read. See, David grunts. It's just about the cutest god damn thing I've ever seen a baby do and honestly I've never known a baby to do it. We just thought he's a chatty little booger. He does it when he's falling asleep or waking up but doesn't look like he's under any duress. He's just a grunting little machine, it's freaking adorable. I'll have to post a video of it. I read up on it this morning and found out some interesting things: http://www.drhull.com/EncyMaster/G/grunting.html

grunting

Why do babies and young children grunt? This is one of those apparently simple questions that bears a little thought. Grunting actually serves useful and healthy purposes in babies; it can also be a sign of serious disease. I get enough questions about it in daily practice to warrant some discussion.
Healthy babies

Healthy babies grunt quite a bit. They grunt

  • when having a bowel movement. They do this because their abdominal muscles are weak, and to push out the stool, they must bear down with the diaphragm against a closed larynx (voice box - technically, the glottis).

  • Some grunt with pleasure, perhaps with an occasional happy squeal thrown in for contrast.

  • Something you never considered: they grunt to open the air sacs in the lungs periodically. This is the baby equivalent of a sigh. During quiet, shallow respiration, many of the tiny air sacs in the lung (the alveoli) collapse due to the normal surface tension in the lungs. A sign or grunt in this case pops them open again so that air can again enter.
Sick children

The grunting of sick persons is different from the occasional grunt of the happy, healthy child. Grunting caused by illness is more regular, often with every breath. The child usually appears to be in some distress or to be ill. Grunting respirations in a baby with a fever or who appears to be sick is a very bad sign and demands immediate emergency medical attention. The grunting respirations could represent

  • pneumonia

  • asthma or in a baby, bronchiolitis with significant oxygen lack - look out for a blue coloration around the lips - cyanosis

  • sepsis

  • meningitis

  • heart failure with flooding of the lungs with fluid, in a child either known to have heart disease or previously undiagnosed
His 2 month check up is on 4/2 but I plan on taking him in just to check his weight and ask about this anyway. There was the issue of his lungs not quite being developed (hence the amnio I had done) but after he came out, the doc said his breathing was superb so I'm not worried. I just found it interesting.

Yall gonna make him play Football?
ROzbeans 17 years ago
Sure if he wants - depends if it costs 400 fucking dollars just to play like it does here. Catherine plays everything but football, so will David probably =)

So of course I started to worry. =x I called the ped's clinic and they said to walk him in this morning to the nurse and she took a look at him. On cue he began grunting for her while she undressed him to weigh him and she started laughing. So the grunting he's doing is just fine, thank god. She weighed him and he's gained 2lbs since feb 4th - he's 9.0lbs now! O_o

lol -- even when we suspect something is nothing, its always good to hear someone else confirm that, especially someone with real medical knowledge
