Dragon Age: Origins

Anyone play this yet? (is it even out) and if its not out, anyone gonna play it?

Looks pretty awesome.

I deleted my first dwarf noble and restarted her again with a better looking face and different talents now that I knew what I was doing. I also went ahead and went with my first Landsmeet choice now I could now brace myself for the inevitable. On any other character, I would not be making such a hard choice, but this felt the most right for my dwarf noble. I could explain it in more depth, but that's probably more roleplaying than anyone wants to hear. So ... gonna just march on with a wounded pride into the expansion.

I'm also redoing my dwarf commoner at some point so she'll look exactly like her mom and sister with orange hair, etc. I really liked that origin so no problem doing it again. I made some choices in that playthrough that I regretted since I was just exploring different options to see what happened. I don't really want that to carry over into the expansion.

And I had been waiting on playing a female human because this guy had fabulous hair styles for the human female, but very complicated instructions on how to install it. I really didn't want to edit my files or break my game. So another modder was very generous enough to adapt his work and make it much more friendly by including it in her "more hair" packages. I'm sooo excited.

Here's the original image:

Link to the "more hair" mod that is making the above widely available now. Just drop the file in your folder and it will now show up as an extra hairstyle in the character creator.

Oh my O_O those look absolutely excellent, as do the FACES.

I REALLY like how this human looks, but it wasn't right for the character I rolled. I definitely went with that hairstyle, but a softer color palette. (I'm weird about wanting my hair and eyes to match any family members my character has so I feel more connected to them.) I may go with that look if I ever make a human mage down the road. (I already did an elf mage so not in a hurry to do the mage origin again when I still have to do city and dalish elves.)

Mass Effect 2 is coming out next Tuesday. I cannot wait to see what the modding community will do for that game in terms of hairstyles and so on.

Damn, that doesn't even look like the game. The redhead is a bit much... it almost resembles an egyptian headpiece a la sarcophagi, or some sort of alien... thing... I dunno. The curling under is too uniform and symmetrical. Still, pretty amazing looking.

All I want is to be able to use Duncan's hairstyle, or maybe like a topknot type thing like the half-elves in EQ1 were able to use.
Beli 16 years ago
It's not obvious because of all the screenshots cluttering up the page, but Duncan's hairstyle is bundled in with all the hairstyles from the same mod so it's available:

Edit: Here's a screenshot of Duncan's hair in the character creation: http://www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/images/392-1-1262282891.jpg

Made it to the Landsmeet! But what the hell - Zevran turned on me when the Crows jumped me on the way to the new Denerium Arl's house. =/ At least I got all his shit back.

I read somewhere that his approval needs to be 30+ for him not to turn on you. I was at +65 approval with him when he wished his friend good luck, but he was not abandoning me and stepped aside to let me finish off that guy. At 100+ approval, he stayed and fought WITH me.

How big is the actual game world?
KaAnna 16 years ago
The world seems massive in the sense of lore and story that characters, papers, etc have mentioned. The game, however, only takes place in a portion of the lands. The map fills your monitor, with no "zoning" or scrolling as of now.

You hear of a land known as Orlais quite a bit in Dragon Age: Origins, but you cannot venture there as of yet.

p.s. I would love to know where they got the character mods for that screenshot (especially the eyes).

I think I'm almost to the end but my character info says I've only done 33% of the game. It's fricking HUGE. Yeah I read in the wiki that he has to be at least 'interested' to not attack you, so I'm going to go back to a previous save and see if I can't raise it to at least that. I never use the guy - Leilana seems to have better skills - but I wanna keep him still =/

The main group I use is Allistair, Wynne, Oghren or my dog Killer (hehe) - seems to be a good combo.

It isn't an "open" game like WoW Kele - you go to certain areas, and can only roam smallish areas at those locations. The game itself is huge, the lore is very deep, and your choice make the game open in that regard, but you can't just roam the countryside like Oblivion.

Yeah there are specific quests you go on that opens up more of the map. Right now I'm in my underwear in prison for killing the Arl after being double crossed (I think) by the widowed queen. Bitch! I went back to a previous save and talked up Zevran to 'care' and he stayed and fought with me against the other Crows. He's mah boy now - plus I'm pretty sure he wants to do me. =x

Let Killer rescue you!

1. Let Leliana bluff.
2. Let Killer... bluff?

The dog barks and the guard is like "what?" and he barks again and the guard says "oh okay" and lets you in.

Don't let Oghren, Morrigan, or Sten try to bluff, though. They don't have the right amount of subtlety O_o Especially Oghren.

I used Zevran and Wynne - mostly Zevran and it worked pretty well. He was bringing a 'personal' delivery. Yeah, Wynne is a hot piece of ass the Captain wants!

Yeah, I played a ton of Dragon Age: Origins, but I know that my percentage still isn't 100%. There seems to be TONS to go back through and do. (Pretty sure some of the percent includes other origins as well).

Need to get back into this game!

I just killed those bitches before they could take me - hardest fight in the game

I just killed those bitches before they could take me - hardest fight in the game

I did that first, then I decided I wanted to keep Ser Cauthrian (sp) alive, so I went back and redid it by getting captured.

I agree, though. Hardest fight in the game. It took me several tries to get it down.

My mage (spirit healer / blood mage)
Alistair
Morrigan
Leliana (with rogue talents, not many dual wield talents, so no aoe damage)

I had to use Morrigan's Sleep + Waking Nightmare, my mage's Blood Wound (aoe stun DoT thing), and then try to focus fire them down one at a time. I was pausing every 2 or 3 seconds, monitoring everybody's health and making sure they were staying on target, plus running Morrigan all over the place using Crushing Prison and Mind Blast and more Sleep whenever they were up.

I killed the High Dragon on the Ashes quest on the first try (though I had watched a strategy beforehand and sort of exploited it), and the Archdemon was even easier than that. The only fight that came close to this one in difficulty was the Redcliffe zombie event, WITHOUT losing any villagers. THAT was pretty hard, too.
Vulash 16 years ago
I had to run the main chick off and fight her with just of her allies - and even that was hard - she was 2 hitting allistair faster than I could keep him healed at first - then I realized leliana had the wrong tactic up and was just standing there the whole fight - so it took forever to drop her lol.

I lost some villagers - does it change if you beat the zombies without any villagers dying?

My first game i went there first, and had a near party wipe - I ended up with just my mage agroing a few at a time and training them to the knights and running around like a retarded eq druid with agro
pharren 16 years ago
You get some crappy reward. A plate helmet, I think. If you have the Honnleath DLC you can get a better helm there. It takes a screenshot and labels it something like "saved the village without any losses" but there's not even an achievement for it :(

I stood Morrigan in the middle by the bonfire and just spammed Winter's Grasp and Mind Blast, and used my mage to heal the villagers.

Crowd control is ridiculously powerful in this game. The bard aoe stun song sucks, though. Don't bother with it. Or maybe I just suck at using it. Mind Blast, Sleep, and Crushing Prison were all I needed. That Blood Wound ability is pretty sweet, too... Crushing Prison pretty much kills any trash mob, and Blood Wound pretty much kills entire groups of trash mobs. There's one room in the Alienage, when you're transitioning from the Apartments to the Warehouse or something, with a bunch of archers off in like a dining room alcove type thing to the side... Blood Wound + Inferno = all dead.

PS: Haste is the shiznit
KaAnna 16 years ago
Man, Cauthrian (or whatever) was such a difficult fight. At first, I was casting like Tempest and Fireball over the archers just to get them to STOP firing at me and knocking me down. After several tries, I realized that just wasn't goin to work, so I, too, had to seperate the Ser from her insufferable archer buddies.

After taking her into the room, I think it was down to just two characters and it took FOREVER to kill her.

Off the top of my head, some of the Revenants are the only ones that compare. (Although the zombie village event was pretty hectic as well)
