hmm, well was considering getting it for the boys, but think maybe ill wait for a nice bloody fps or maybe assassin's creed 2 ><
Oh for you guys who enjoy Fall out and Oblivion, freeroam rpg type games, my kids and the hubby really enjoyed Borderlands. Its especially nice cause even after you beat the game you can replay it at a higher level with higher rewards and things, if you want to keep going. These guys are always dissappointed when they beat a game and they cant go back and do anything else.

The experience is so different (not drastically, but noticeable) with the various origins - or even the same origin if you make different choices (ie play goodie two-shoes or the evil prick) or take different objectives in another order - that replays will be commonplace on this for a while.
I've started my second playthrough.

So far this game is fantastic. One of the best I've played in years, and I can see myself playing it through at least 5 times for different stories/character builds.
As of now I haven't encountered too much adult themed stuff. There is some romance, but nothing over the top. Obviously I haven't gotten to the sex scenes. There are a couple of comments you can make askign someone if they are a virgin or if they've "bedded" someone, but those are very rare and phrased just like that.
The game is pretty gory - some consider that an adult them and some don't so I thought I should point that out. Judging by the list of other games I don't think it is more gory than those.

I'm loving Dragon Age so far, but I have to be the slowest gamer EVER; I'm still not very far in. I haven't seen any sex scenes yet, but my character's storyline did start with her cousin being raped, although it was just talked about and not shown. Still, probably not the most appropriate for the really young ones.

I'm waiting on Roz to buy this game already so I can get my fangirlism out of my system already!
I've played the game three times already -- dwarf noble, dwarf commoner (is anyone shocked I did the dwarves first? Heh), and elf mage. My husband and I bought one CD to share, but because he continues to play WoW and I don't, I got dibs on it.
I am very pleased by how differently each origin story plays out. When I started with my dwarf noble, I was pretty much a goody two shoes due to being royalty and having a sense of honor/doing right by others. It's why I clicked with Alistair so well and had a great relationship with him. I was a little disappointed that I wasn't able to romance a dwarf NPC (well, not unless you count Gorrim in the very beginning, but that's inevitably doomed since he's not a supporting cast member), but Alistair was so charming that I just went with the flow. As the game progressed, I became a sucker for Alistair because he said all the right things at the right time. It was just unbelievable. Unfortunately, I made a few well-meaning choices that had disasterous results and spent several days heartbroken. I was so sure that I wasn't going to play the game again after that.
Of course, I got over it and played my dwarf commoner with a very specific outline of how it was going to play out this time! Right! Right? Was blown away by how different the commoner origin was and that completely changed my character's motivations. I did pursue Alistair again because the boy is like crack. (One of the writers said that Alistair was inspired by Xander from Buffy, the Vampire Slayer and Malcolm from Firefly so you can see where his appeal comes from.) I saw the ending coming from a mile away, but I still made different choices to be true to my character and her origins. It's amazing how the smallest choice changes the dialogue and results as you play along. It was truly a different experience. My two dwarf girls were like night and day.
Third character was an elf mage and I romanced Zevran this time to get away from Alistair, lol. :D (Zev's great, but Alistair is pretty hard to beat.)
I've started a human noble as my fourth character and I'm telling myself to get a life. I'm kind of bored at this point even though I'm curious about certain plot developments that pertains to the human noble specifically. I'm actually going to go out this afternoon and buy Mass Effect. I've seen several women commenting they bought Dragon Age Origins to get away from the romantic interest in Mass Effect and some laughing because they bought Mass Effect to get away from Alistair. So I'm hopping on that bandwagon because I'm curious how the two games compare! (Mass Effect 2 is coming out in January so perfect timing if I end up loving the original. Who knows how long we'll have to wait for a Dragon's Age 2, if they even make it?)
Here's a fanart link about Alistair that made me laugh and cry. (It reflected my first Landsmeet choice so I heavily identified with the artist's reaction.) Don't look at it until you've completed Dragon's Age at least once. It's not totally spoilery, but better safe than sorry!

Oh, I saw the earlier comments where people weren't really interested in it because it's not an MMO or they just don't know enough about it. Other than the game being absolutely immersive, I will say that I will be shocked if this game doesn't inspire you to work on your Poser artwork, to recreate the characters that you choose to play. This game is partially hack-and-slash, sure, but there is a ton of video that you really feel like you're in a movie, play a part.
Here are my screenshots of my dwarf and elf just to give an idea of what you see in the game and the choices you are presented with. I did not put up any spoilery screenshots (other than the sex scenes because sex sells, dammit), fyi, because if you're still not interested, your loss. :D
Dwarf commoner:
1. My imprisoned dwarf creating a ruckus.
2. The ground shakes!
3. My dwarf gets asked a dumb question. My answer is marked.
4. One of my favorite scenes in the game involving one of my traveling companions asking me for a favor.
5. Sex is one of the weapons we can use in the game! (Dunno how this plays out for male characters, but I had several options to bribe with sex when the occasion came up.)
Elf mage:
1. One of my favorite battle scenes that I managed to capture. I just like it.
2. Another battle scene with Zevran going for the kill. Nice and clean.
3. One more battle scene with the crew I ran with. My hot elf lover is in the background.
4. Screenshot of me asking Zevran for sex. $$
5. Tasteful scene of Zev and my elf having sex although we keep our undergarments on, boo.
6. Lesbian sex scene -- I only did it to unlock the achievement and reverted back to a previous save so Zevran wouldn't ask me about it. Sorry, Leliana!

I've had some pretty amazing kill shots and such - how do you do the screen shots?
Why does your Zevron have blonde hair? Mine has long blonde hair - not that I call him mine - I'm hooking up with the chicks

For screenshots, you just hit the "print screen" button and it'll appear in your folder automatically. To find them, look in My Documents > Bioware > Dragon Age > Screenshots > User. (I wasted a lot of time looking in Program Files before someone told me this was a microsoft feature where stuff got moved to "my documents" instead. Grr.)
And as for Zevran, I didn't like his original over-tanned/peroxided look since it made him look like a 14 year old surfer so I used this fantastic mod:
http://social.bioware.com/project/951/
There are several different looks to pick from for Zevran (black or blonde, long hair, short, or buzz cut). If you look around on that site some more, there are many more mods to change/customize looks, but I thought that person's was the best. Just a warning -- if you use the mod, the only time you will not see the "new" Zevran is the video where they "introduce" him (when he gets hired by Loghain). From that point on, he will look like the new Zevran in everything.
The only other mod that I am using are the eye color one where this user tweaked them so they stand out better.
http://social.bioware.com/project/915/
Other than that, I have not tried out any other mods. I've been curious about the mod that changes the color of your panties, but really, how much time are we really naked in the game that this is necessary? =p

Just finished my first play through - I think around 70 hours and I missed some side quests. I give it an A+. Fantastic ending that didn't leave me feeling ripped off like so many games. I can't wait to play it again and see how different decisions effect things.
