I killed the High Dragon of the Ashes quest on the first try too - and without watching how (har pharren!). The damn thing kept concentrating on my mage, it was bizarre. Wynne tanked the entire fight, basically. That's a ranger fight, for sure. I manhandled it till the last quarter and then just switched to bows/arrows to finish her.
That stupid redcliff zombie fight annoyed the hell out of me. Took me like 4 or 5 times till I decided to train them up the hill. Would have been nice to have the wiki for hints back then. The hardest most irritating fight was up in the mage tower. Quit the game for like a week because of it, but found the wiki and figured it out finally.
The Crows were damn hard too, got that first try killing zevran and without killing him.
That stupid broad with all the archers - I did run back to the room but good lord she hits like a motherf8cker. Haven't killed her yet so I just let myself get captured after one try lol.

Anyone play this yet? (is it even out) and if its not out, anyone gonna play it?
Looks pretty awesome.

I did the Electric Slide.
I lied to Morrigan because according to the wiki, Flemeth doesn't drop anything other than the shit that's in the chest.

In my all of my playthroughs, I killed Flemeth, but in my recent playthrough, I knew I wasn't going to do the ritual with Morrigan so what the fuck did I care about her mother? I was going to trick Morrigan (if you have Alistair or Zevran in your group, they get excited at the idea of deceiving Morrigan), BUT I also had Wynne present and she was all preachy about what a tangled web I'd be weaving. So I decided FINE GODDAMMIT I'll just kill her. Because while Flemeth was assuring me that I would never see her again if she lived, did I really want to risk Morrigan finding out about my deception in a sequel/expansion/whatever? NEVER MIND that she was already playing me the whole time. She's a crazy chick that will set your car on fire so I decided to kill Flemeth, AGAIN, just to not mess with Morrigan in the meantime. Other than telling her to go fuck herself on the ritual. (I don't care about the sex -- it's the whole "I want an atomic bomb from you/the other guy and you have no say in what I do with it nor can you ever see me again. I assure you that I will take care of this atomic bomb and it will never go off" that I just can't agree to.)
I wasn't able to kill that broad until my third playthrough (what's her name after you rescue the queen). And when she confronted me before the Landsmeet, I usually went with the persuade options to get her to step aside. My last playthrough, I skipped the persuade options just to see what she would say if I clicked on the other choices, to "talk it out" with her. She wasn't about to let me go so she went down, unfortunately. That fight is waaaay easier than the first one.
Did you know that if you DON'T persuade/intimidate the guy at the docks when you are trying to get to the Circle Tower for the first time, people in your party do it for you? Sten had me laughing in stitches when I heard what he had to say. (AND you can follow up with him in camp by saying, "I want to talk to you about something you mentioned" since that encounter will unlock extra dialogue.) Morrigan and Leliana both have responses. Nothing for Alistair, Zev, or the dog. I've never tried it with Oghren. I do know that Shale does intimidate the guy, but always forget to grab her first before doing Circle (since I'm in such a hurry to get my healer).

Oh, been playing my human noble with that supermodel hairstyle that I linked earlier ... it's so surreal. I'm so used to playing dwarves (or gnomes) that I honestly feel like I'm playing with a barbie doll this time. I'm not digging the human as much as my dwarf, but that's OK. I'm only playing her for one specific outcome so I can see how it carries over into the expansion. The hairstyle is meant to pwn Anora at Landsmeet.

This mod gives additional eye colors and hair colors. Look through the images to see if you like what you see:

This mod has unique eyes like cat eyes or eyes on fire or whatever. (I am not using it so can't vouch for it.)

And this is one of the mods I cherish -- it whitens the nasty brown teeth in the game:

I have no idea. The guy didn't credit his sources, but a lot of these authors often use each other's works to build their own products. For example, one person made brand new sex-scenes to replace the vanilla sex ones we see in the game. You only see nudity if you incorporate someone else's naked skin mod. So while you don't have to install the naked mod, the sex scene mod assumes you'll be using it so you will see characters with their mouths open like they're giving BJs. Whether or not there's actually anything to suck depends on additional mods being installed.
p.s. I would love to know where they got the character mods for that screenshot (especially the eyes).

It's good times when you're in a relationship with her and somebody else and she confronts you about it.
How do you survive if you don't go through with the ritual? I was under the impression that you die at the end if you don't do it. Who, then, would you play as in the expansion?
I said to hell with it, and did the ritual, and I didn't bother telling her I would hunt her down or anything because I honestly don't care about her. And I can think of worse things than being the father of an evil, world-devouring demigod... like being the father of a lawyer, or a politician (I notice nobody makes the assumption that the child will turn out to be a good little demigod full of flowers and sunshine).
This time around, I haxored Morrigan approval from 0 to 100 with the console, and tapped that ass before I left Lothering. According to the wiki, even if I refuse the ritual now, she still ends up with my child.
I'm not looking forward to having Wynne around, but I don't want to spend talent points on healing spells for Morrigan (I won't waste points on the crappy shapeshifting either). It was nice playing a healer :( ...until something like the Proving came along, and I had to try and fight 3 people off with my staff.

More about healers: How can you manage Ostagar without a healer? I didn't even want to think about the amount of potions I would be consuming, so I used the console to make the mage NPC that joins your party into a spirit healer with like 8 extra spells. I reload if one of my characters dies (I played through the entire game with 0 deaths (by 0 deaths I mean I reloaded and tried again if anyone died)), so the thought of running out of potions was too painful for me to even contemplate.

I read a really good tip on how to keep Ser Otto alive when I had trouble doing this at first. It's sorta mean to do this to a blind guy, but it's all in the name of keeping him alive. Turn off auto-follow and move your group individually. (Yes, this is a pain, but go with me.) Be sure to close the doors behind you so he can't follow you though them. If you are on autofollow mode and start fighting, he'll go through the doors and join you. So turn it off. Just leave him behind. He'll magically rejoin you when you trigger video confrontations with the demon.
And later on, when I got better at playing the game, I used my mage to cast force field on Ser Otto. This immobilized him, prevented him from attacking or getting any damage back, for the majority of the fight. And my healer would watch his health and heal him when necessary. But the force field was my way of making sure he wasn't running off on his own or getting too much aggro.
ROzbeans;112011
Shale is supposed to be free with your copy of the game. Go to Sulcher's Pass on the left side of your map and accept the quest from the guy there. And then a new town will appear on your map and you go there. If you don't have Shale installed, check your game to see if there's a code you didn't enter. If you do not have a code, let me know. I have an extra Shale code that's going to waste (husband and I were originally sharing one CD so I paid for the separate download. Decided to buy my own CD later on and thus the code that came with the game is going to waste, atm.)I never picked up Shale. Where's he from?

My dwarf spared Loghain so that's why I can decline her ritual with no problems. I know that Loghain will ask me to let him take the final blow to redeem himself. (I only read about it -- haven't actually seen it.) Alistair is pissed off at me, but I'm hoping this means I can track him down in the expansion and ask him to come back. The horse has probably left the barn though. At least he's not dead and there's no demon baby to haunt either of us.
On all my other characters, I do the ritual. I have a male human that I am going to kill off because I just don't care about him, but I want his choices to carry over into the expansion so I can start again as an Orlesan Gray Warden.
pharren;112013
Alistair can take the killing blow for you. Just don't volunteer to do it when you talk to Riordian and leave the option open. If you have a good relationship with Alistair and when the arch demon goes down, Alistair will stop you and ask you to let him be the one to take the final blow. If you are a female romancing him, he absolutely will not take no for an answer and give a heartbreaking last kiss before charging off. Only way to avoid this is to leave Alistair at the gates when Riordan tells you to pick your final group. That way you're the only Grey Warden there when the arch demon dies. How do you survive if you don't go through with the ritual? I was under the impression that you die at the end if you don't do it. Thank you much for the links!
I am rather liking your idea, Beli, of starting over just for story purposes and for the expansion. On my first character, the mage, I was doing all sorts of crazy stuff because it was a new game to me. I may have to start anew for story/expansion.
As for Flemeth, I killed her. And I was like o_O oh crap when I saw her for the first time. lol

Yeah I noticed he stayed in the room down the hall the first time - I thought it would work the second but he was just too close =/
I went through the part where I convince the queen to marry Allistair, if only for political reasons. I was ok with it at first - I was like, 'yeah yeah just do it.' Then he told me I was more important than Fereldan.
Hmm. What was that pang in my chest?
I go run to the queen and tell her, 'yeah yeah, he's into it.' She replies, 'oh...well are you going to fuck him on the side?' Ok she really didn't say that, but she wanted to know. I sat there for a bit and thought about it. Finally I said, 'No, i'm gone.'
Run back to Allistair, but there's no dialogue at all.
Ouch. My chest hurts, what the hell is that?
Talk to Arl Eamon and he was like 'oh cool.'
So I run back to the queen, just to double check and she says, 'I talked to Allistair - this doesn't seem like a curse afterall.'
....Oh that pain in my chest, it was my heart breaking. =/
I'm kinda sad now. He won't talk to me or anything. Stupid game.

Shale being free was a release thing - he didn't come with mine, that DL cost me about 15 bucks.
I didn't use any outside sources to beat it the first time so some of the hard fights were really hard. Like I said I did Redcliffe first - no healer, and it was hell. I basically used EQ style tactics on a lot of the harder fights. The dragon I just fought like Fennin Ro - spread myself out and kept only the tank in close and ranged it. Had no issues there - I was expecting a beatdown lol.
There were a few fights in the dwarven dungeon area where there were multiple casters that liked to crushing prison me before I could crushing prison them - those got hard if I ran into them unaware. The end of that arch fighting all of the golems was a bit rough, and the fight with ser cautherine. I actually had no trouble beating the game - the end of that was rather easy (though dramatic - boo fable 2 with your crappy boss fight)
I did the circle tower second so some parts were difficult, but overall I didn't have too much trouble. My 2nd playthrough I did it first, but my rogue was a badass and I understood the mechanics better so it wasn't too bad then.

I haven't tried this strat, but one guy said that when he got to the ogre at the top, he gave everyone in his group a bow and had them standing in the center shooting at the ogre while one NPC would be running around the room in a circle, kiting the ogre along.
pharren;112014
I grab all the elfroot I can find, buy all the potions off the Ostagar vendor (before and after I go into the Wilds), and I buy about 50 flasks from him. I also clean him out of any elfroot he is carrying (about 8ish or so). When the mage joins my group, I use his herbalism to make the lesser health potions and I have a healthy supply of about 30 or so. I rarely go through the whole thing before the tower is done. Some encounters are tough, like the first floor, but I command my whole group to dogpile that genlock and take him out asap. His spells are way worse than a room full of archers. Once he's down, the group can chug a potion each and split up and take an archer for themselves.More about healers: How can you manage Ostagar without a healer? The very first room in the Ostagar tower is the worst. I got so used to having 398420934 tactics slots that starting over with 3 is a major pain :( Group Heal trivializes almost everything, though!
